The US and Canada are neighbours, they aren't related.

We most certainly are related. We had the same mother (as SSVegeta pointed out) and a large number of our early settlers were people who fled the US as United Empire Loyalists during and after the revolution.

As far as the war of 1812 goes, the bulk of the fighting was carried out by Canadian militia and Indians. The British were certainly present but there were occupied with Napoleon in Europe. Several of the major battles such as Chrysler's farm and Beaver Dam were primarily Canadian/Indian engagements. Canadian militia troops did participate in the torching of the White House. The burning of Washington was basically revenge for the American torching of the parliament buildings at York (Toronto). British troops and Canadian Militia occupied the entire Michigan territory for the bulk of the war, however, none of our territory was held by the Americans for any significant period of time. Every American attack into Canada was ultimately defeated and the occupiers were routed.

Yeah, but our father was different....France got around a LOT in those days. Canada's pretty big, too, labour would be pretty bad for poor Britain.
