Spotify Wrapped 2022 Breakdowns!

Recommended Posts

I saw a post like this on the Political Lounge Forum, and wanted to repost mine here to start a conversation. Hoped it would be fun for everyone. So here it is, my Spotify wrapped.

Linkin Park was a more recent fascination for me. "Castle Of Glass", the M. Shinoda remix, was my favorite of theirs this year. But "New Divide" and others got into my overall playlists before too long.

Snow Patrol began with "Run", then "Crack the Shutters", "Open Your Eyes". "Spitting Games", "How to Be Dead", and "Hands Open" were new additions this year. Great music, even if their live performances aren't exactly the best.

Hamsandwich is a unique Indie band. Almost all of my music of theirs is from their album White Fox and Stories from the Surface. I found them through rando plays on a playlist suggested by Spotify last fall, with their biggest song "Ants" from White Fox. From there I grew to appreciate their sound, especially the harmony and sound their voices could put together. Great if you like Indie.

Filter is a band from the 90s, and I got into them last summer (of 2021). "The Only Way" is an anthem to me now, as my brain has linked it to my deceased grandmother (I do this weird thing where I'll link actual media to memories of people, and this is one of those things). "Surprise" and "First You Break It" have found a soft spot in my heart, and I always sing along to the real head-shaker that is "I'm Not the Only One". Great band, great music.

Sufjan Stevens has my pick for the best Indie artist from Michigan, who has chosen to represent his state heritage in his musical work. I can't go into detail, but apparently I listened to "For the Widows in Paradise, the Fatherless of Ypsilanti" the most of any song in my library this year-which is weird. It's a good song, but it's not exactly a song which speaks the deepest to me.

Additional notes from this year.

-I really got into Forza, NFS, Assassins' Creed, and GTA soundtrack playlists, as they provide a large amount of variety in their playlists-also collectively they have hundreds of hours across all of them. AC for instrumentals, NFS for high-speed/tempo, GTA for generational, and Forza for soft-and-hard paced, and instrumental.

-00s Rock, pop, other genres grew in my library this year, along with 2010s. New bands added to my codex of growing bands included Toad the Wet Sprocket (7 songs), Linkin Park, White Lies, Audioslave, The Shins, Hives, Rapture, Metric, Foo Fighters, others. 2010s exploded to 400+ songs, up from 300+.

Really, I only use Podcasts on Spotify for Timcast IRL, MrCreepyPasta, and occasionally American Elections, Wicked Game. But I did binge a bit of Wondery's great 1865, which is always a treat. I spent 9k of my 81k total minutes this year on Timcast alone.

Last to note: The High Highs' "Open Season" was featured on Pitch Perfect 1. I watched the film as a mid-teen, and I idolized college life in a way. Now being a college student myself I see that song as an anthem of sorts for my years being at my university. The song holds a very special place in my heart, which is why I listened to it the most. "The Only Way" was already a favorite of mine, discovered in the summer of 2021-but with the death of my grandfather and me tying that song to the memory of her has caused it's impact to greaten-as to why I listened to it so much. Bell X1's "Ribs of a Broken Umbrella" has an *extreme* spot in my heart, and I actually listened to it more on my iTunes this summer than Spotify-probably why it wasn't higher. "Middle of Nowhere" and "Heat Waves" are on there for some reason-I don't know why, as they're not even songs I *search for* anymore. They're good, and I like when they appear on Shuffle, but I don't actively put them in queue like I do others.

If anyone wants to follow me on the site, I go by Darrel Mandeka-I'm putting together a mass playlist of all the songs Shazzam recognizes from CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, so that might be the best way to find me-if you want to.
