Today Vienna elects a new state parliament (100 seats) and all 23 districts of Vienna elect new district councils.

The first results will be in, in about an hour.

I am pretty much disappointed with all parties on the ballot. I was a huge supporter of the People's Party until Chancellor Kurz arrived. I still voted for them, but without any enthusiasm.

Regarding the parties and candidates:

SPÖ + Mayor Michael Ludwig: I'd never vote for the Social Democrats, because their policies and work are a disaster in Vienna, just better than the Greens. The mayor lacks charisma and is basically invisible. He was also not elected and came to power, because the last mayor resigned.

FPÖ: The party is not really trustworthy and lacks integrity most of the time.

ÖVP: As said, since the Chancellor took over the party, it became untrustworthy and basically a cult following of Kurz. It's sad that his cronies like Gernot Blümel get posts like leading candidate in Vienna AND federal treasury secretary. The party is basically run by Kurz's cronies...

Greens: Probably the worst major party. Their policies are completely out of touch with what Vienna truly needs. The leading candidate is alleged to have thrown rocks at policemen at a far-left protest and also headed to a Kurdish protest in Vienna.

HC: A corrupt, fly-by-night guy who drinks, does drugs and probably associates himself with prostitutes. The infamous Ibiza-Video exposed him and brought the country into turmoil...

NEOS: Mostly out of touch and unorganized.

The political state of Vienna (and in fact Austria) is really bad to be honest, because you basically can't find politicians with integrity or trustworthy values. The corona management is also insane. The situations is worse than ever but the federal government does virtually nothing.

My voting order in this election is as follows:

ÖVP > FPÖ > HC > NEOS > SPÖ > Greens

I feel like for your political philosophy, this would be ideal for you.

In regards to the election, I don't live there. I don't personally know the atmosphere of the politics or situations that Viennese are dealing with. I suppose, if I lived there, I'd probably vote for Democratic Socialists or Greens, but if there was a better candidate in another party that was also socially liberal, then I'd possibly vote for that candidate. I say this with completely ignorance of Austrian affairs. I would also be hesitant to support any party for a country I didn't live in even if I was a daily student of that country. I think the only determined statement I'd make is that I would oppose Fascism, Nazism, and Authoritarian Communism (like USSR, China, etc)--basically any authoritarianism--in any country, since I think that violates a universal freedom.

That depends. In covid related affairs I'd welcome more action.

I'd say the SPÖ might fit you best, although the Greens are more progressive. Even if I were left of the centre I couldn't vote for the Greens. Some examples: One of their biggest concerns in the covid summer was to build an expansive large outdoor pool... how out of touch can a party be? Additionally they destroyed a huge shopping street in Vienna by banning cars from it. The reality is, there is no traffic management anymore, but cars are still driving through. It got more dangerous but didn't improve quality of life. The leading candidate also proposed to take away guns from law enforcement, despite Vienna is not that safe, especially when it's dark. There are certain areas in Vienna I would have legitimate concerns to visit at daylight, but during the night it's eerie everywhere and the Greens want to take away guns from the police. That's insane considering the problems we have with youth gangs, organized crime, drug dealing etc.

Yay! It's always fun to watch the results of elections that have no immediate impact of my life, because I don't have to stress about the results!

The election constantly beaten like a dead horse and having far too much dominance and coverage in these forums at the expense of everything else is one of those elections for me - but I don't it fun. In fact, I was sick of it several months ago. American elections are dragged out for too long, and grossly overplayed by the highly irresponsible American news media. But don't mind my grumpiness...
