PringlesN7 162
Nixon has a meeting with Florida Governor, Claude R. Kirk. Jr. Hoping to gain his endorsement ahead of the Florida Primary, if Governor Kirk accepts, Nixon urges him to run as a Favorite Son in Fusion with Nixon… in order to ensure the state goes to Nixon at the convention. Kirk Jr. worked on the Nixon campaign in 1960 and was critical in making Florida go red… no reason he shouldn’t now. Nixon commends the Governor’s ability to win tough elections and talks about his plans to pass the Dirksen Amendment with his good friend, Everett Dirksen. Finally, Nixon also discusses the spot of the RNC for the year… Miami Beach looks like the perfect place for it. Nixon, ecstatic about his win in Ohio heads home… to Los Angeles, California, for a rally. At the rally Nixon talks about his experience, electability, and how California was where it all started for him. Nixon discusses the future of the Cold War; The Space Race. Nixon pledges to do his best to get a man on the moon before 1970. At the end of the rally Nixon mentions all of the people who have endorsed him, and finally ends on a note of returning the country to Law and Order. Saying that believes the silent majority is fed up with the burning in the streets, the flag burning, and the hippies disturbing the peace. In a Nixon Administration, he promises to act more in line with the wishes of the American people, unlike Johnson; and then we can finally have Law and Order. Nixon heads back to Texas for a final meeting with Senator John Tower. Nixon, appearing in a somewhat more cheerful mood given his big win in Ohio, Nixon discusses with Tower his plans to create a new Cabinet position if he is elected President. Which would be passed alongside the Dirksen Amendment. The new position will be called, “Secretary of State for Local Government.” The position will play a role just like any other Senior Cabinet position but its unique role would be to advise the President, and have a say on every bill the President signs. The person in the position would have to be knowledgeable with state laws, and local laws. The main goal of the position is to ensure cooperation between the President and the states in hopes to ease concerns of State’s Rights on certain bills. Nixon is hesitant to offer the position to Tower given his seniority in the Senate, but Nixon is ready to give it to him or allow him to name his choice for the job. Everything Nixon discussed previously with Tower is still on the table of course... All Nixon asks in return is that he ensures Texas is delivered to Nixon at the RNC. Everett Dirksen announces his intention to form a fusion ticket with Richard Nixon in the upcoming Illinois Primary.
