Quick Shot 2016: Republican Primary

Recommended Posts

I don't have the stamina to put out polling and news updates for you people tonight, so tomorrow morning those will be coming out and the next turn will start. Also, we are scrapping the forum debates in favor of the system I used in the 2020 Quick Shot.

February 2nd Race Updates/Polling:

Debate: For the New Hampshire debate I ask that everyone send in a core message, a pander, and an attack. I will roll a D10 dice on all 3 to help determine debate scores.

Timeline: This turn will last until tomorrow morning EST to allow room for everyone to post or until everyone has posted. In-RP it will last from February 2nd to February 9th(New Hampshire).

News Updates: The Iowa Caucuses radically changed the nature of the race as Marco Rubio, riding off of a wave of momentum into the night, surged to a close second behind Donald Trump, propelling him into a full surge nationally as moderates, anti-Trump conservatives, and the establishment rally around him, putting him in striking range of Trump in New Hampshire. Meanwhile, as for Trump, his miracle victory in the tight race has granted his campaign hope moving forward, as Trump's base has remained firm and he maintains a lead nationally, though with a quickly rising Rubio threatening him. As for Ted Cruz, the third-place finisher has taken a serious hit from the results, as Iowa, a hotspot for evangelical right-wingers, failed to deliver a victory for the evangelical right-winger in the race, spreading doubt about whether Cruz can survive the next few states. Most other candidates appear to be focused on New Hampshire and South Carolina as their hopes for survival in the race, however with a poor week leading up to Iowa Jeb Bush is notably in decline following poor results there, while Chris Christie and Carly Fiorina are both vying for success in New Hampshire, as they experience a rise in the state after strong campaigning and media coverage heading into Iowa, with Fiorina being considered one of the winners on the Iowa debate.

I will be dropping out of the Presidential race and endorsing my friend, Jeb Bush!, for President.

Vote Jeb!

Endorsement Roll: 10! The endorsement sends shockwaves through the race in New Hampshire, as Kasich's organized ground game and volunteer base throw themselves behind Jeb!, putting him into a surge in the state as moderate voters know who they are voting for. Jeb!'s townhalls are packed, his rallies full of energy, and both are full of clapping Kasich supporters ready to support Jeb!

New Hampshire Debate Scores:
Jeb Bush +9

Carly Fiorina: +8

Ben Carson: +1

Rand Paul: -3

Chris Christie: -3

Ted Cruz: -3

Donald Trump: -4

Marco Rubio: -10

Republican candidates met in New Hampshire for the eight Republican debate where shock and attacks flew all about. The biggest winners of the debate were regarded as Jeb Bush and Carly Fiorina. Both gave strong and passionate performances, and Jeb surprisingly landed a handful of blows on Trump while Fiorina moved in to finish up his work afterward with a series of devastating attacks on the frontrunner. Following those two, no candidates were able to come near to their charisma and strength on stage, though Carson was able to land a handful of strong moments throughout the night appealing to Trump's populist base. Aside from Carson, most other candidates stumbled through the night, with only one, Chris Christie, managing to formulate a serious attack during the night. This list of stumbling candidates includes Donald Trump, though he has been considered to have a worse debate than the other 3 stumbling candidates thanks to attacks he received from Bush and Fiorina. However, no one could match the human disaster that was Marco Rubio on stage. Marco failed to formulate clear answers, fidgeted throughout the night, and was altogether horrible on stage. Rumors have it that the surging Rubio may be stalled and put into decline in New Hampshire thanks to his performance, however, he still has some hope in his campaigning in the state(Code for rolls are coming)...

February 10th Race Updates/Polling:

Debate: Same as the New Hampshire Debate, send in a core message, pander, and attack.

Timeline: This turn will last until tomorrow morning EST to allow room for everyone to post or until everyone has posted. In-RP it will last from February 10th to February 20th.

News Updates: The days leading up to New Hampshire and the primary itself have shaken up the course of the race as doubt, fear, and division spread among many in the Republican Party. The Primary saw the new establishment golden-boy Marco Rubio felled by a bomb on the debate stage and a poor round of campaigning leading up to the primary. However, this collapse, leading to Rubio's failure to beat Trump in the primary, also had cause in the sudden surge of Jeb Bush. With a strong debate performance and a strong campaign heading into the Primary, Jeb used the momentum created by John Kasich's endorsement of him to surge into a strong third in New Hampshire. This secured what many have referred to as a campaign saving victory and has pushed Jeb forward as a moderate alternative to Rubio.  However, whether Jeb's sudden surge will bring him into lasting competition is up for debate, as the race remains Rubio-Trump centric heading into South Carolina. Another surging candidate in New Hampshire was Carly Fiorina. Gathering a mix of disaffected conservatives fleeing Rubio, evangelical right-wingers accepting Cruz's fate in the state, and moderates looking for anybody able to beat Trump, Fiorina secured a fourth-place finish in the state, securing delegates and an upward momentum nationally as a result.  As for Trump, despite failing to do extraordinary in the New Hampshire debate or in the leadup to the Primary, is now striking fear into the hearts of moderates and the establishment, as his victory in New Hampshire has energized his base and has caused panic over the possibility of a Trump victory in South Carolina, something which after 2 second-place finishes, could dash any hope for Rubio to overtake Trump. As such, South Carolina stands as a battleground Rubio may need to win or come close in after the mistakes of New Hampshire, and one which if he doesn't could mean handing off the party to Trump. However, whether or not a victory can be accomplished is in doubt. He is far behind in the polls thanks to his collapse leading up to New Hampshire, and Bush, Cruz, and Carson together are sucking up much of the air in the race, weakening even Trump. As such, perhaps a close second is all he can aim for...
