You can make an offer to one of the other candidates, and just offer your unconditional withdrawal. They should accept the offer without a problem. There isn't a way to just unilaterally drop out, unless you just quit the game. You have to talk to another candidate to withdraw. Just so you know, dropping out will immediately end the game for you, unless this has changed in the latest release. If you know you are going to lose but still stick it out until the convention, the game gives you the option of continuing on as the nominee, once the convention is over.
