hey i just played simon's version and it's great my only suggestions would be to make hrc a little better (i think a person like hrc would beat keyes in states like alaska and wyoming) and add more candidate

I can do the first easily (I'm the King of Excel!) but I did as many candidates as those who sent their attributes and platforms when the idea came up, I couldn't do anymore without coming up with attributes or platforms myself and I didn't want to do it, I was wary of the bias I could unwittingly integrate in the scenario.

BTW, in the electorate trends, HRC had 60% of the Republican vote, Keyes had 40% of the Republican vote, 20% of the Democratic vote and 100% of the Libertarian vote. I think that his weakness in the game itself may be because his platform is just so much to the right, and that damages his starting support.

Yes, a radical platform do damage your support, to check it out, create a Bush version with 3 in every attribute, but a Right position in everything and a John Kerry version with a 3 in every attribute and a Centrist position in everything. This is what I did, and the initial support for each at the start of the game (fog of war OFF) was:

Radical Conservative: 37% 33 EV

John Centrist: 52% 454 EV

If I started the game normally, with fog of war OFF, I had this:

Bush: 43% 180 EV

Kerry: 46% 228 EV

I'd probably never vote green IRL, but if you need third party candidates...

Name: Myke Anderson

Position: Mr.

State: Minnesota (Hey, I used to like Garrison Keillor... Not in that way, sicko.)

Age: 41 (Obviously not my real age)

Party: Green

Picture:

Platform:

Abortion: Left

Affirmative action: Center

Balanced budget: Center-Right

Business tax: Center-Left

Campaign finance reform: Center-Left

Ecology: Left

Education: Center-Left

Free trade: Center-Left

Gun control: Center

Same-sex marriage: Left

Immigration: Center-Left

Military funding: Center-Right

Military intervention: Center-Right

Personal tax: Center-Right

Public health care: Left

Renewable energy: Center-Left

Social security: Center-Left

Terrorism: Center-Right

Stats:

Leadership: 3

Integrity: 4

Experiance: 3

Issue familiarity: 4

Charisma: 4

Stamina: 3

Debating: 4

Candidate blurb: Mr. Anderson, a life time member of the Minnesota Green party, is unique in his beliefs, as unlike the other Green candidates, he is a centrist, and hopes that his unique views will allow more popular support for the party he knows and loves. His only real hope is to see his party finally win a single electoral vote, and open the metaphoric pandora's box for a green revolution to cross the USA.

Yeah those issue positions make a HUGE difference. Just for giggles I added myself to Canada 2004 with issue positions similar to the ones i posted. I think the first time I ran myself, the CPC almost lost major party status! Good thing I live in America. I've since gotten better, I once won a minority government. And became "David Hempel the Slick" as opposed to some other names I earned. :D

This is sounding awesome though...could potentially evolve into a way to settle rivalries if we ever get internet multiplayer. "You think you're so smart...lets have an election; me and you in the school yard bring a laptop!"

Actually, except for the ecology position, those are pretty much my exact RL positions.

I realize that Alaska is pretty small potatoes politically (relative to the rest of the US)... But...

1) Would they elect a governor who can't spell the word "Governor"?

2) Would they elect a third-party governor anyway?

3) Why would the Green and Libertarian parties want anything to do with each other?

4) Why would the Green and Libertarian parties want anything to do with what is by all means a signifigantly right-leaning candidate? (Libertarians tend to be ultra-conservative on issues of taxation and ultra-liberal in all other areas... The most electable greens are moderate leftists.)
