vcczar 1,224
I thought this was kind of interesting. Several VPs in our history were not the standard Gov, Sen, or US Rep. Cabinet Secretaries: Thomas Jefferson (had been a Governor before) John C. Calhoun (had been a US Rep before) Dick Cheney (had been US Rep and WH Chief of Staff before) Ambassadors/Diplomats: John Adams Martin Van Buren (had been a Governor, Cabinet Sec, and Senator before) George Dallas (had been a Senator and Mayor before) Levi Morton (had been a US Rep) Assistant Cabinet Member: Adlai Stevenson I (had been US Rep) State Representative: Aaron Burr (had been a US Senator before) State Comptroller: Millard Fillmore (had been a US Rep before) Vice Chair of a Party Committee Garret Hobart (no real prior relevant political experience) State Party Chairman: Chester A. Arthur (had been Collector of the Port of NY before) Director of a Government Bureau Charles Dawes (had been Comptroller of Currency before) GHW Bush (had been US Rep, chair of RNC, and ambassador/diplomat before)

To be honest (aside from the ones that no longer exist), these might make good party alliances for a hypothetical and fictitious elected UN General Assembly scenario, working similar to how European Parliament parties bridge the individual national parties in the European Parliament. GHW Bush was listed as a Director of a Government Bureau (a general, not specific term, which includes CIA)
Rarename91 0
Am I the only one that find it ironic that the republicans are apart of the International Democrat Union?

The word "Democrat" is not applied in terms of the Republican Party versus Democratic Party as applies in the U.S. alone - it was a name come up with for a large, broad-based, international party forum of similar ideologies. Please, get past the parochial thinking...
