I hope McCain becomes the nominee. Though any republican couldnt win this election.

I beg to differ. I have won 2008 exactly 9 times. I am 9-5 in 2008.

Romney 3-0

Mccain 1-2

Giuliani 2-2

Jeb Bush 1-1

Tancredo 1-0

Frist 1-0

I mean in reality.

I've also won that as Cheney.

In reality @HomosexualSocialist, Giuliani would have won and Rommey would have won. McCain could have won too....but he refused to attack Obama. Giuliani put California and New York in play especially New York, had we won the nomination those became swing states.

Romney would have beat Obama cause he would have gone on the attack....

In 2012 Romney only lost cause the old MCcain people were his campaign team and those were old pleople that didnt know how to forcast elections.

I don't think so. The economic situation was blamed on the republicans. The election was like a ceremony considering that McCain's chance of winning back then was literally zero.

I don't think McCain's refusal to attack obama was the reason he's lost. McCain has a great character and people would've voted for him if not for the circumstances.

Also obama was the first black nominee , so black turnout was really high and democrats were fired up.

Although if clinton were the nominee I could say that McCain or other republican could've had the chance.

If guiliani were the nominee I dont think he could win california, california voted democratic since bush won it on 1988.

New york was the same, though I could back you with that since Guiliani was the mayor of new york .

But really, guiliani was not a good candidate, he was only known because of 9/11

But Giuliani is a centrist. Gays would have supported him unless they were black, the middle class workimg stiff would have supported him. He would have win NY....and maybe not Cali but NY is a given he is still more popular than the governor there.

I refuse to believe any of that crap about the economic situation, in a debate on the economy the Republican always wins. When a Republican talks money democrats always try to switch it to a social issue they can win on cause they hate talking economics. I witness it everyday. I am running an economy focused campaign for mayor and the Democrat refuses to tell me where she is getting her math.

In "2008" no republican could win unless obama kills a baby in live CNN.

the economy was down, stock market crashes and the incumbent was a republican.

@jdm06ltd please let me explain :) im not trying to start an argument I  was merely discussing that guiliani winning in 2008 is virtually impossible. Or any other republican.

Yes as a centrist I would totally support him.

And Gays would too. But there were corruption allegations about him.

No one likes corrupt politicians.

Gays are only 4 % of the US Electorate and generally, gays support democrats.

No Republican could have beaten Obama in those years. By 2008, George Bush had damaged the Republican brand almost beyond repair. The incompetence, corruption and Great Recession were guarantees that a Democrat would take the White House no matter what.

--economic meltdown.  Doesn't matter who's at fault, it happened when a Republican was President so some blame (fair or not) gets assigned that way.
--war fatigue.  We have a country that isn't that involved with the military, doesn't really support the military (other than tying some yellow ribbons and telling people in uniform "thanks for your service").  Regardless of what you thought of either war and their progress, the American public (at least some members) was tired of wars and wanted to move on.
--demographics.  It was possible but very hard for Democrats to win the Presidency in 1980, '84, and '88.  Look at the states that were locks for the GOP and the number of battleground states.  The only way for a Democrat to in in those years was to basically run the table...to pick up every (or almost every) battleground state.  Now things have changed.  It's the democrats that hold major advantages electorally.  The GOP (just to win narrowly) has to win almost all battlefield states.  That's really hard to do.
--plus, 8 years of a Republican administration.  That's not a slam at George Bush, that's a reality that the public mood (whether it's wise or not) prefers a change after 8 years.  That's why Dukakis originally led George H. W. Bush by 18% points.  That's also an advantage that George W. Bush had running against Gore.  That point is not absolute, but it's probably worth 2-4% points among the voters (some of whom stay home so they don't vote for their party's candidate).

@HomosexualSocialist Let me explain to you why I think Barry O could have lost, the Republicans had prominent Moderate Democrats like Joe Lieberman on their side, there was SERIOUS Centrist discontent with Obama.

And there was serious centrist discontent with McCain, amplified after he picked Palin. I'm sure you've heard of Colin Powell?

Yes but we are talking an extremely popular sitting senator. And besides McCain ran his hand like a peach as a moderate.

Mccain ran a terrible campaign....

I agree, but as a moderate appeal it was a peach, the non-aggression pact did him in.
