normanwisdomii
COMPLETION IS IMMINENT, JUST NEED TO FINISH THESE BLOODY RIDINGS ANYONE FANCY TESTING IT? //Asylum + Immigration Immigration has been excellent for Britain, more rights for minorities. Labour must defend the most vulnerable Asylum seekers. Some immigration has been beneficial, strong border controls. Labour should be tougher on immigrants undercutting wages. Labour lied to people over the scale of immigration. @ //New Labour's Record New Labour betrayed the poor and rewarded the Bankers, good riddance. Iraq and the 10p tax fiasco were catastrophic, forget New Labour, move on!. We must be proud of our achievments and humble about our mistakes. New Labour delivered electoral success, we should stick with its principles. The great shame is that Brown held back Blair's greatest reforms. @ //Law & Order Labour lost its way on Civil Liberties, legalise cannabis. More investment in rehabilitation for criminals. Safe communities are happy ones and Labour should focus on community leadership. Stamp out anti-social behaviour, no police cuts. First and foremost Labour must be tough on criminals, longer sentences. @ //The Coalition Government Fight the ConDems though organised strike action and protest. Fight the cuts, rule out any future co-operation with the Lib Dems. The Lib Dems betrayed their supporters, welcome them to Labour. Attack the Tories in the south of England, win back the middle classes. Labour must support the Coalition in bold Public Service reforms, work with some Lib Dems. @ //Afghanistan Withdraw troops immediatley, cancel trident. Withdraw troops on a time scale, some reductions in Defence spending. Consider a planned withdrawal over a number of years. Building a stable Afghanistan is a worthy cause, no withdrawal yet. Increase involvment, set up permanent bases if we need to. @ //Economy Return Clause IV, Labour will be the party of nationalisation. Interventionist economic policy, more planning and industrial policies. Support a robust recovery with capital investment and better infrastructure. Encourage enterprise and innovation, more University places. Support tax cuts and tougher measures on Unions, the Private sector must thrive. @ //Education All power to LEA's, phase out Private Schools, scrap tuition fees. A Graduate tax for students, sue the government over 'building schools for the future'. Review charitable status of Private schools, keep free school meals, support comprehensives. Revive Blair's City Academy programme, keep University fees at current levels. Univeristy fees must rise, support innovative free shcools and academies. @ //The Deficit No cuts, reduce the deficit with a 'Robin Hood' tax and closing offshore tax havens. Invest in growth, find some savings next year and raise taxes. Endorse the Darling plan, but more tax rises rather than cuts. Full support to the deficit reduction plan that Alistair Darling proposed. The pace of the present reduction is appropriate. @ //Foreign Relations Reject Europe and the US, build a coalition of pacifist nations. Britains future is with Brussels not Washington. Keep ties with the US, look at further EU integration though. The USA under Obama should be out closest ally. Distance ourselves from Europe, champion Atlanticism. @ //Housing Promise to build 1 million 'green' homes as part of a stimulus package. Increase social housing as a safety net for the poorest, cheaper rents. Building houses will stimulate the economy, increase targets for local authorities. Encourage every family's dream of home ownership, mortgage tax relief for poorest. Shifting people onto the property ladder is Labour's duty as the party of aspiration. @ //Paty Organisation Return to the Trade Union bloc vote, conference will be sovreign again. Lead a Labour movement, encourage Trade Unionists to get invloved in policy making. An elected party chair, embark on member consultation programmes Party organisation is fine the way it is. Reduce Union and CLP influence futher, conference will be a display of unity. @ //National Health Service Abolish the Private sector, its infulence is damaging. Increase funding. Cut private sector involvement. Oppose the ConDems on Health reform, ring fence spending. Some reforms will give greater choice to the patient. It was a mistake to ring fence Health spending in our manifesto. @ //Pensions Increase the basic state provision, keep the retirment age. Protect pensions and winter fuel payments, no increase in contributions. Support the linkage to earnings, consider a National Care Service. Levy properties to fund a National Care Service. Reform pensions to save money, increase the retirment age. @ //Why Labour Lost We lost our working class base by cosying up to the rich. The Iraq war caused our supporters to change allegiance. We alienated voters in the south of england, Brown was a poor leader. We taxed the middle classes too heavily and spent too much in office. We became a party of Immigrants and benefit scroungers. @ //Taxation A financial transactions or 'Robin Hood' tax on bankers. Clamp down on tax avoiders, lower the top tax rate threshold to raise vital funds. Retain the 50p tax rate, oppose the VAT rise. Retain the 50p rate but look at shifting the tax burden to property and assets. The 50p rate must be a temporary measure. @ //Trade Unions Labour was born from the Unions, we must be eternally loyal. Increasing the role of Unions will be crucial to creating a Labour movement. Encourage Trade Unionists to become more involved in the party, no reform though. Keep Union releations at current levels, be wary of Union 'Barons'. In todays world Unions are less necessary, abolish Union ties. @ //Iraq Legacy Iraq will be a scar in the history of our party. We need to face up to the fact that the war was illegal, issue an apology. In hisdsight the war was probably a mistake, but Iraq has improved massivley since. We were right to go to Iraq, Saddam Hussein was a despot. Labour was absolutley right to go into Iraq, support future interventionism. @ //Vision for Labour It's time for a real socialist to lead the party! Ed Balls is true to Labour's roots and will be a superb leader. Ed Miliband will change Labour to win. David Miliband will navigate Labour back into Government. Andy Burnham is the man to reform Labour. @ @end @initial issue profiles // includes perceived attributes and planks // 1 lowest, 4 highest 4 3 3 2 3 3 1 4 2 3 2 4 1 1 3 2 1 3 2 2 3 4 @end
