tb75
Since I hopefully finished editing the 1796 scenario, i figured i start with 1840 next but i need some help. Does anyone know any good Issues or sites about the state populations in 1840? I would appreciate any amount of help. Thansk
mahaadoxyz
State-by-state population data: http://www.census.gov/population/www/censusdata/files/table-16.pdf Popular & electoral vote data, as always: www.uselectionatlas.org Obviously, there's wikipedia for a fairly simple summary. As for issues, I'd say: Slavery (obviously) Tariffs Central Bank (the recently demised Banks of the United States, Van Buren's proposal for a Fed-style central bank) Expansion Texas Indian Tribes Panic of 1837 (? Not sure if this is really an "issue" per se, or just the economy should be lousy, thus hurting Van Buren.) Internal Improvements Presidential Powers Harrison didn't like campaigning on issues, though, preferring to run on character. Don't know how to simulate that, though. Patine
Remember that the Whig convention was more than a year before the Democratic one. This may screw up the primaries phase quite a bit.
Patine
Oregon may be another issue, as may European Relations and Monroe Doctrine.
