2010 Birmingham & Coventry Westminster

Recommended Posts

What an election! Lynda Waltho and Labour lost in my constituency of Stourbridge but it was so exiting. I am however now unemployed.

I wonder if it is worth making a scenario for Birmingham and Coventry Westminster elections 2010 that would come out around September. I would struggle to get a map. and I have never made a scenario before.

Immigration and Unemployment are massive issues and the Tories are on the offensive at Labour seats in the Dudley area and Liberal seats in Birmingham.

Regions could be Dudley, Wolverhampton and Walsall, Sandwell, Birmingham North, Birmingham South and Coventry and Meridian.

Any Thoughts?

Well, only the Birmingham constituencies and Sutton Coldfield, but not on this scale. I thought maybe you had seen my series of Westminster elections focusing on the main cities (Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham). I like the idea anyway, and I could do a map for it. Unlucky with the election loss. I would suggest looking at the PMFE scenario creation guide in the Scenario Creation forum if you haven't already.

The problem with focusing on just Birmingham is that it was overwhelmingly Labour in 2010 with the Tories failing to win Edgbaston (considered an affluent area). I have seen your series and have downloaded them. I was thinking it would need to include the commuter belt towns as well as the deprived industrial outskirts (where the BNP have gained influence in recent years). The regions could be as simple as the local council boundaries so I would appreciate a map thanks. I'm guessing from your avatar you are a Tory but I appreciate your commiserations nevertheless.

Yes it should work on paint, as long as the boundaries are black. Make sure the map size is less tha dimensions of 501 x 381. However, I use photoshop, which helps refine the borders (I strip it downto a singular line) as well as erasing the background and dragging the map onto the main map template, which you can download in the scenario resources forum. I still use Paint to find the co-ordinates for the regions, which you get by simply using the pencil tool and you will see 2 sets of co-ords on the bottom right of the Paint screen, that will change when you move the mouse cursor over the map.

Cadbury? I'm not quite clear on what you mean by that issue. Could you please elaborate?

Cadbury (Chocolate makers if your'e unfamiliar) is the flagship of Birmingham's industry now the auto trade has collapsed, it's a large employer and Kraft foods ltd. have taken over the plant in Bourneville. It's a huge local issue and features on the regional news every other day because jobs are at risk. Labour offered a 'Cadbury law' in their 2010 manifesto that would protect the factory (and any other like Cadbury) from future foreign takeovers. I feel it will localise the campaign a little more.

Plus Ridings are now done. I copied them from the bbc election results website will this work?

Cheers Mr. Treasurer! I think your the only one. You like the rest of the scenario yeh? In the ridings I am not deliberately giving Labour people 3/4 stars they are just junior ministers etc. and I don't know any important Tories/Libs in the reigion.
