Patine
Also, an update on the runner's up scenario. In addition to those on the list on page 3 of this thread, not just Mitt Romney has been added (with Alf Landon turned 'off-by-default' to make room for him), but I've also added Aaron Burr to the Democratic-Republican list, even though he was slated as a Veep to Jefferson, he became very upset (duel to the death upset, in fact) when his chance at the presidency was foiled by Alexander Hamilton, though he'll be 'off-by-default.' Patine
Mahaadoxyz, or anyone else who wishes to respond, I'm thinking of also including the Free Soil Party (with just Hale, as obviously Van Buren's accounted for in the original All-Star Presidential scenario), but I'm not quite sure if they actually made enough of a dent on the popular vote (4.8%). Mind, I think that's a bit better than Nader or Anderson, and they're being included. Hale and the Free Soilers would be off-by-default, of course, because of numbers constraints, but I just wanted to know what you thought before formally adding them. As well, the last two candidates I'll propose before actually finishing this thing, are John Byrd as a Southern Democrat (off-by-default for the same reason John Floyd is, because he wasn't actually running actively but was more of a protest vote, though he did steal some EV's from Kennedy and Nixon just like Floyd stole some from Jackson and Clay) and Gary Johnson, who is arguably the most successful and high-profile candidate the Libertarians have yet produced federally, but, due to numbers constraints, he'd also be off-by-default. mahaadoxyz
If you wanted to throw Gary Johnson and Ron Paul into a Libertarian primary, given that Paul did run on that ticket in 1988, that could theoretically be cool. Have you included any of the other, more major Southern Democrats already, like George Wallace or John Breckinridge? If so, adding in the protest-vote versions of that party as really weak minor candidates in the Dixiecrat primary would make a fair amount of sense. And as for the Free Soilers, I guess it just depends on the overall philosophy you've been taking to minor parties. My original conception of the scenarios was that there would be the A list, composed of all and only the 43 Presidents of the United States; the B list, composed of the losing nominees of the major parties, plus people like RFK who could just as well have been the nominee; and the C list, composed of the sufficiently notable third-party nominees, without any main parties. But I don't have a big problem with combining B and C, and there's certainly not as clear a philosophical distinction between the two of them as between the A list and the others. Oh by the way, at some point when you've got this scenario in good working order, send it to me as well! (hurricanexyz@mail.com)

Oh by the way, at some point when you've got this scenario in good working order, send it to me as well! (hurricanexyz@mail.com) I pretty much planned no real distinction between the B and C lists in this endeavor. And, I've already included Breckinridge, Thurmond, and Wallace as the main, on-by-default Southern Democrats, so Floyd and Byrd would just be minor, off-by-default ones who'd be weak in the primaries. Also, I'd completely forgotten about Paul's Libertarian run in '88; he'll have to be included for sure, but also off-by-default due to number crunching. And I do think the Free Soilers would make a good addition, but, like the Southern Democrats, Constitutional Union, or even Federalist or Democratic-Republican parties, their looking at needing to win all or nearly all states they're on the ballot in just to win the GE. And finally, though moreso as an equality nod, I'd considered including Lenora Fulani of the New Alliance Party, who, to my knowledge, was the woman who garnered the most votes in an American GE. And, of course I'll send you a copy. The first one, in fact.
mahaadoxyz
Looks like the New Alliance Party eventually kind of merged with the Perot party. Would it make sense to include Fulani as an off-by-default Reform type? Not sure it would, but I don't really know the details of the story. Patine
@mahaadoxyz: Could you please do me a favour that will greatly expedidite this scenario's progress. Could you possibly whip up some 'letter' party logos like the ones you have for the Democratic-Republicans, Federalists, and Whigs in the original scenario for me please? I need 'SD,' 'P,' 'A-M,' 'FS,' 'CU,' and 'NA' (in case I end up doing the New Alliance as it's own party after all). 'I,' 'L,' and 'R' are all easily available in TheorySpark scenarios. If you do decide to help me out (which I do hope you do), please send them to chandallah@netscape.net. Thanks in advance!
mahaadoxyz
Got color preferences for each pair of letters? I'm assuming those are the Southern Democratic, Progressive, Anti-Masonic, Free Soil, Constitutional Union, and New Alliance parties, yes? One idea I did just have would be to create an actual logo for the Anti-Masonic Party, basically just a freemason's symbol in one of those red crossed-out circles. I think for one incarnation of this scenario I tried to find a logo from the Federalist Party.
Patine
I was thinking green for Southern Democratic, light blue for Progressive, brown for Anti-Masonic, pink for Free Soil, dark blue for Constitutional Union, aqua for New Alliance, and maybe so they fit a bit better, if you'd be willing, light yellow for Libertarian and dark green for Reform. That, I think, should cover it. Again, thanks in advance!
mahaadoxyz
Okay, cool. How quickly do you need them? For the remainder of this week I'm somewhat busy with finals, and then with Christmas stuff early next week. I could probably find time to do it in the next couple of days, but it wouldn't necessarily be the most convenient on my end, so if a delay of a week or so is not a big deal on your end, I might wait until Boxing Day or something. Patine
If I were actually paying for them, I'd say "right away, mister!" But since I'm asking for a favour, take your time. Boxing Day's fine. I'll just use blank party logos until then. Thanks again!
mahaadoxyz
Okay, cool. I might or might not get a big enough chunk of free time to do them sooner.
