Patine
Since GOP Progressive and Matvail2002 are having such fun with them, I'm putting Austria 2008 and Japan 2009 on hold to give a fictitious nation a try. I'm approaching it with an open mind. I've developed in my short story writing career of over 20 years (nothing officially published, unfortunately) a number of fictitious nations. Here's one of them. The Principality of Reshmir is little more than a tiny strip of land bordered on the West by the Tyrhennian Sea and the East by the former Warsaw Pact Balkan nation of Kiristonia (which I may do an election for later on), with a small cluster of islands off it's coast. The mainland is dominated by the sprawling metropolis, port-city, and cultural centre Valance, though the nation's capital, Cobant, is little more than a hamlet on one of the outlying islands. Several rural provinces fan out from Valance inland. The nation's head-of-state, Prince Leopold IX, a constitutional monarch, has dssolved the country's small Parliament after the Socialist-Green coalition split on a nuclear power plant bill (the Socialists saw an opportunity for more jobs and efficient affordable power for Valance, the Greens saw an eco-hazard in the making), and the National Party, Christian Democrats, and Progressive Liberals brought down the divided government. Now, six parties (the above mentioned five and the Communists, who had no standing seats) vie for position in the next Parliament. The National Party are mostly right-wing The Christian Democrats are centre-right to right-wing The Progressive Librals are more-or-less centre The Socialists and Greens are centre-left to left-wing The Communists are mostly left-wing (I could use some leader names) Demographics Reshmiri (native fusion of ethnicities) 25% Kiristonian 20% Italian 15% Greek 10% Maltese 5% Arabic 5% Other 5% Religions Roman Catholic 65% Kiristonian Orthodox 10% Greek Orthodox 5% Moslem 5% Jewish 2% Other (including Atheist) 8% Regions Valance (divided into five or six seperate regions) Cobant Northern Islands Southern Islands Far Islands Rural Provinces (need names for at least five) Any suggestions or aid would be appreciated. gopprogressive
What map are you using? I do like it! Though it would more likely be 5% Albanian rather than Arabic. Is this set in the real world or a fictional world?
Patine
I plan a custom map, which I may actually have to draw freehand on paper and then scan. I hope that works out. If someone can help me with an easier way, please let me know. You are probably right about the Albanians over Arabs in the population. The Arabs were meant as descendents of Crusades-era seafarers, but by the modern day they'd likely have fused in with the Reshmiris. As for a world, I hadn't envisioned a world much different than our own, but (if you're willing to share cohabitancy creatively) could you tell me a bit about your micronation world. A unified fictional world may end up being quite attractive.

A unified fictional world may end up being quite attractive. That's fine with sharing cohabitancy. As for my world, it's based off some RL micronations in this sort of internet simulation known as Micras. So far the countries in my world are: Alexandria (CF), Stormark (CF). New Brittania (PMFUK), Simland (PMFCAN), Kozakura (CF), Ocia, Katyusha, Babkha, Hamland, Shou Lung, and Arminy. As one could guess, the micronational world is rather eurocentric IRL (and elections, if any, are rarely competitive), but I'm assuming that its world resembles ours. The most powerful nations are probably Alexandria, New Brittania, and Stormark. Furthermore, what languages/ethnicities are Reshmiri and Kiristonian similar to?
Patine
Reshmiri, as a language and ethnicity, is a fusion of several Mediterranean cultures, including Albanian, Kiristonian, Serbo-Croatian, Greek, Maltese, and Italian, as well as Turco-Arabic seafarers and Crusaders who settled there in the Middle Ages. Their language is a complex pidgin that's difficult for foreigners to learn. They are mostly Roman Catholic with a few Moslems. Kiristonians are essentially Southern Slavs whose language and culture are similar to Serbo-Croatian. They are roughly split between Roman Catholics and Kiristonian Orthodox. Thanks, I like it! I like the three party leader names proposed so far. I have another just today: Communist Party - Miljec Vlasimov: Former Kiristonian Communist-Era Secret Police Agent and later, under that organization's auspices, leader of the Valance Red Guard, a militant/terrorist organization active in Reshmir in the '80's. Like Gerry Adams in Northern Ireland in the Real World, past terrorist connections don't stop him from running for office. They may, however, greatly affect his chances of winning. Patine
BTW, GOP Progressive, is Republica Baltusia for P4E+P that I found on Matty1019's scenario thread (but not of his making, as he points out) your scenario? It looks like your style of handiwork, but I've seen no other P4E+P scenarios by you, and you didn't mention it in your above list. Just wondering. Patine
The map is currently being worked on. As I said, I'm going to draw it on white paper in black pen, then scan it. I've had several attempts so far, but they all ended in the recycle bin. I am getting closer, though...
gopprogressive
What do you think the issues should be? I'll try to come up with some party leader names (probably will look at Albanian, Montenegrin, Serbo-Croatian, Maltese and Italian politicians and come up with amalgams). Patine
I like that list, though I would like to have the University of Valance endowment (in shorter wording, preferably) as a seperate issue from Education; I just don't know which issue on that list to replace. I like my Communist Party leader with a long and questionable background, above, and I like your names so far; they just need brief backgrounds. Patine
This looks good! Problem is, this set-up would require a different map than the one Treasurer made for me. This would mean prostrating myself before his map-making awesomeness and pleading for another scrap from his table. Otherwise, it looks very good. I notice you remembered Kiristonia, there, though Valance is spelt as so, not Valence. Great job, though!
