VoteGOP 490
I think its pretty safe to take Hagel off the GOP veep list. Maybe add him on the demo veep list.
Jackson 0
Bobby Jindal should also be added as a republican VP.
ElectricMonk 3
The VP List Joe Biden is the Democratic VP nominee. Chet Edwards gets bumped up to the first tier as he was reported as being final stage vetted Democrats: VP Nominee Senator Joe Biden, Delaware. Top Tier Representative Chet Edwards, Texas 17th. Senator Evan Bayh, Indiana Senator Sam Nunn, Georgia. Governor Kathleen Sebelius, Kansas Governor Tim Kaine, Virginia ex-Top Tier Senator Jim Webb, Virgina — Ruled himself out. Senator Jack Reed, Rhode Island — Mostly ruled himself out (also: Rhode Island has a Republican Governor = Dems would lose a Senate seat). Governor Mark Warner, Virginia — Mostly ruled himself out (also: would cost the Democrats a Senate seat as Warner is currently running for Senate). Governor Ted Strickland, Ohio — Ruled himself out. Senator John Edwards, North Carolina — I think it's pretty obvious why he wouldn't be considered. Second Tier Senator Chris Dodd, Connecticut — Doesn't meet change criteria (also: Connecticut has a Republican Governor = Dems would lose a Senate seat). Senator Hillary Clinton — Doesn't meet change criteria, Bill Clinton problem. Senator Bob Casey, Pennsylvania Senator Tom Dashle, South Dakota Governor Janet Napolitano, Arizona Governor Bill Richardson, New Mexico General Wesley Clark — Obama has said he's solid on foreign policy, this would undercut that. Senator Chuck Hagel, Nebraska — Very Republican on everything but the Iraq War. Longshots Senator Russ Feingold, Wisconsin Senator Sherrod Brown, Ohio Senator Bill Nelson, Florida Senator Patty Murray, Washington Governor Brian Schweitzer, Montana — Would destroy Montana's Democratic party. Governor Ed Rendall, Pennsylvania — Said he wasn't being vetted, and good because he'd suck at being VP. Senator Claire McCaskill, Missouri — Said she wasn't being vetted. General James L. Jones — Obama has said he's solid on foreign policy, this would undercut that. General Anthony Zinni — Obama has said he's solid on foreign policy, this would undercut that. Agricultural Secratary Ann Veneman — Very Republican, Congressional Democrats hate her. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York — Republican. Republicans Top Tier Governor Charlie Crist, Florida — Rumour is he's gay, but is also now engaged. Representative Rob Portman, Ohio 2nd Governor Tim Pawlenty, Minnesota Governor Mitt Romney, Massachusetts — McCain is not a fan. Second Tier Senator John Thune, South Dakota — Said he wasn't being vetted. Governor Bobby Jindal, Louisiana — Too young? Hasn't been Governor for long. Governor Tom Ridge, Pennsylvania — Pro-choice. Carly Fiorina, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman, former eBay CEO Governor Mark Sanford, South Carolina Representative Eric Cantor, Virginia 7th ex-Second Tier Governor Sarah Palin, Alaska — About to be under investigation… might not survive as Governor, let alone as a VP pick. Longshots Senator Joe Lieberman, Connecticut — He's a Democrat. Senator Olympia J. Snowe, Maine — Too moderate, probably. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Texas — If McCain needs a women, now that Palin is likely out. Senator Lindsay Graham, South Carolina Governor Mike Huckabee, Arkansas Governor Sonny Perdue, Georgia SEC Chairman, Representative Christopher Cox, California 48th Representative John Kasich, Ohio 12th Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York — Not very Republican. Fred Smith, FedEx executive
Johnny08 0
General Anthony Zinni has also been on some of the lists for Dem VP.
ElectricMonk 3
He backed Bush in 2000 and I believe he's close to McCain. Just opposing the Iraq War doesn't get you far (i.e. I consider Hagel an incredibly unlikely choice given how conservative he is on non-Iraq War issues). He also said in 2003 that he intends to never get involved in politics. But yeah, he's probably as likely as Hagel anyway.
ElectricMonk 3
Updates: Senator Jack Reed has ruled himself out, probably because Rhode Island has a Republican Governor and therefore if Reed was VP the Democrats would lose a Senate seat. Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska is about to be under investigation. It is possible she won't survive as Governor, and a VP run is now out of the question. VP List sorted into tiers. president9 0
Updates:Senator Jack Reed has ruled himself out, probably because Rhode Island has a Republican Governor and therefore if Reed was VP the Democrats would lose a Senate seat. Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska is about to be under investigation. It is possible she won't survive as Governor, and a VP run is now out of the question. VP List sorted into tiers. I made some changes to the VP List Democrats: Obama's criteria: Obama listed the qualities he'll be looking for: "I'm going to want somebody with integrity. I'm going to want somebody with independence - who's willing to tell me where he thinks, or she thinks, I'm wrong. And I'm going to want somebody who shares a vision of the country: where we need to go - that we've got to fundamentally change not only our policies, but how politics work, how business is done in Washington." (...) "I think the most important thing, from my perspective, is somebody who can help me govern," Obama said. "I want somebody who I'm compatible with, who I can work with, who has a shared vision, who certainly complements me, in the sense that they provide a knowledge base or an area of expertise that can be useful. Because we're going to have a lot of problems and a lot of work to do." Top Tier Senator Evan Bayh, Indiana — Doesn't meet change criteria. Senator Joe Biden, Delaware — Doesn't meet change criteria. Senator Chris Dodd, Connecticut — Doesn't meet change criteria (also: Connecticut has a Republican Governor = Dems would lose a Senate seat). Senator Sam Nunn, Georgia — Doesn't meet change criteria. Governor Kathleen Sebelius, Kansas — Offends (some) female Hillary voters? Governor Tim Kaine, Virginia ex-Top Tier Senator Jim Webb, Virgina — Ruled himself out. John Edwards - Mostly ruled himself out. (also: in a recent poll it shows more people view him unfavorably then favorably/moved to second tier) Second Tier Senator Bob Casey, Pennsylvania Senator Tom Dashle, South Dakota Governor Janet Napolitano, Arizona Governor Bill Richardson, New Mexico General Wesley Clark — Obama has said he's solid on foreign policy, this would undercut that. Senator Chuck Hagel, Nebraska — Very Republican on everything but the Iraq War. John Edwards Ex- Second Tier Senator Hillary Clinton - Mostly ruled herself out (also: in a recent poll it shows more people view her unfavorably then favorably/ moved to longshots) Longshots Senator Russ Feingold, Wisconsin Senator Sherrod Brown, Ohio Senator Bill Nelson, Florida Senator Patty Murray, Washington Governor Brian Schweitzer, Montana — Would destroy Montana's Democratic party. Governor Ed Rendall, Pennsylvania — Said he wasn't being vetted, and good because he'd suck at being VP. Senator Claire McCaskill, Missouri — Said she wasn't being vetted. Representative Chet Edwards, Texas 17th — House Democrats are pushing him. Senator Hillary Clinton Republicans Top Tier Governor Charlie Crist, Florida — Rumour is he's gay, but is also now engaged. Representative Rob Portman, Ohio 2nd Governor Tim Pawlenty, Minnesota Governor Mitt Romney, Massachusetts — McCain is not a fan. ElectricMonk 3
Wheres Richardson on the Demo list? He's in the second tier on my list, I have no idea what changes president9 made because he copy/pasted my whole list and then didn't highlight his changes.
VoteGOP 490
Mised that. I think he should be top tier. But it seems Mr. 9 has made no new additions.

VoteGOP 490
Still copying off EM. I seriously doubt you would have come up with a list half that size on your own.
ElectricMonk 3
Mised that. I think he [Richardson] should be top tier. On his merits, yes, but based on current buzz and speculation not so much and that's how I rank my list. Personally I'm hoping both Presidential candidates pick one of the longshots… after all Bush in '88 kept Quayle under wraps and perhaps either McCain or Obama is doing the same. (Of course one hopes it works out better than Quayle did, but I'd still like to see a dark horse VP.) As for the list: Thune, Edwards, and Dodd have all dropped a rank based on current buzz + Thune said he wasn't being vetted; Fred Smith of FedEx has been trial ballooned and is now a longshot Republican. ElectricMonk 3
Tim Kaine anyone? He's on my list in the top tier… or were you talking to TheorySpark?
VoteGOP 490
A new poll has Huckabee as Mccains most favorable VEEP Lieberman 2nd and Romney third. Mccain has to see that and should have huck in the second tier.
ElectricMonk 3
Post has been updated. Joe Biden is almost certainly the Democratic VP nominee, and Representative Chet Edwards (Texas 17th) has been bumped to the Top Tier as he was reported as hitting the final stage in vetting. See my updated post for the whole list.
