Scalia Scholars? As in the Late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony "Piggory Jiggory," Scalia? If so, that's a little bit scary...

Yes. It is common for law schools to be named after late judges or justices. It wouldn’t surprise me if the more textualist faculty members had a part in the new name. Scalia Law has a reputation as being more textualist/originalist in a good portion of its curriculum.

I'm looking at schools around Kentucky for the most part (since I'd like to stay here for the near future).  Plus Belmont is quickly becoming well respected in the area (with a high bar passage rate and a high employment rate).  I have a solid GPA and LSAT too, so I figure I could get a very good scholarship there as well.  I already have a full ride from NKU and Nebraska on the table (with a stipend from Nebraska).  I also got into Cincinnati, but they mail their scholarship offers (so I don't know what I got yet).

How did this end up going? I ED’d George Mason and am hoping to get accepted into their Scalia Scholars program for full tuition. Otherwise I’m likely heading to Miami, Belmont, or Florida.

No more so than his opponent saying "we're going to go in night of, as soon as that election is over, we're going in with our lawyers".  That's before there's any evidence of anything.

Trump will never concede.  He'll go to his grave claiming there's widespread fraud regardless of whether any such thing exists.

    This has aged pretty well.

  4. I’m a big fan of his music but his general reputation and his mental health issues should likely weigh in to make his integrity below average. He’s not scandalous per se but he’s definitely not someone who comes to mind for “integrity”. I give him a 4. Maybe an argument for 5 but I don’t really see it.

Ya, Steam might happen. Should be pretty straightforward with a Unity app.

I’d be cautious of doing that before fixing some of the issues with the game like dog piling in the primaries. I just don’t know how good the reception would be when steam users are typically fairly critical.

I applied to George Mason (the Federalist Society has a strong presence there).  But I also applied to UK, Northern Kentucky, Ohio State, Case Western Reserve, Cincinnati, Indiana, Notre Dame, Belmont, Vanderbilt, Washington and Lee, Duke, Texas, Texas A&M (paid all my fees), Penn State (paid all my fees), and Nebraska (paid all my fees).

It looks like we’re applying to a lot of the same schools. I’m on the fence short Belmont - their program is so new but I’m sure that with my LSAT score they’d give me a full ride. What makes them appealing to you?

Event 1: Strom Thurmond will make an announcement at a rally in New Vegas. "This shall by my final campaign stop in New Vegas. I know what you're thinking, and no, I am not dropping out of the race, because Thurmond never stops fighting. However, I am, as of this point choosing to redirect all my resources and attention towards Arizona and Utah. It is clear to me, that the biggest threat to the people of the Mojave is Caesar. After he made a point to attack my miniscule campaign yesterday, and with the rumors that he is trying to sway my good friend Barry Goldwater towards him, it has been made clear to me that my efforts shall be put forward to stop Caesar from advancing to the second round. As of this moment, should I not make the second round of the election, and Caesar does, I pledge to endorse the candidate who is running against Caesar." (Rally)

Event 2: Strom Thurmond will barnstorm through Arizona, pushing back on Caesar's claims that Segregation would be a disaster, and informing the people just how well it worked in pre-war America. (Barnstorm).

Event 3: Strom Thurmond will hold a rally in Zion, pushing his platform of Law and Order via democracy, rather than the dangerous Dictatorship of Caesar. (Rally)

It sounds like someone is trying to get brutally assassinated 😛

  8. “This is Radio New Vegas, and it's just about time to get you some news. In the news this week folks, man, I’m troubled just to hear it, and I’ve not even got ears! The NCR Congress withstood a potentially devastating attack today at the hands of the Boomer terrorist organization. A battalion of Boomer soldiers disguised themselves as supporters of that blast from the past Goldwater and launched an ambush in Shady Sands. While the NCR suffered some casualties among the legislators, the Boomers were ultimately unsuccessful in achieving the destruction of the NCR Congress and have solidified themselves as the Mojave’s most hated. It sure does take a lot to be more hated than the Powder Gangers and Caesar’s Legion, but they’ve found more and more ways to lower the bar. Tribe Leader Raquel was overthrown by her own people just earlier this week, and now stands trial for her crimes in the NCR courts.

Nostalgic folks remember the days of the Boomers as a simply isolationist group of former vault dwellers who staunchly defended their territory. Pearl and Loyal, the two widely respected leaders in the community who were expected to lead them for a long time, were executed by tribe leader Raquel in a bloody coup. It’s been a rough few months, folks, and I think we can all agree that we miss the days of the Courier.

Promotional consideration for this news segment has been paid for by the Ultra-Luxe.  The Ultra-Luxe. Live life in the lap of luxury. That's all for now. This is Mr. New Vegas saying, I'm just no good without you.” (Event 1: Attack - Boomers)

“Boy, the Mojave Wasteland is just a fascinating place, isn't it? You never know what'll happen next. This is Mr. New Vegas, host of Radio New Vegas, coming at you live from Black Mountain. It's just about time to get you some news. Mr. House’s highly acclaimed decision to allow entry into New Vegas at no cost has had just a delightful impact on the greater community. Freeside residents are finally able to have access to the greater things in life - whether those things be poker chips, fine dining, or lovely lasses. Additionally, Mr. House has begun redistributing the governmental wealth to some of the city’s most unfortunate.

We have word that the effects of this program are already being felt. Freeside is now home to a second repair and weapons shop: Farris and Roy’s Tinkeries. The two men had fallen on hard times due to an unfortunate NCR ambush earlier in their lives, and seemed destined to live in poverty while scavenging the greater New Vegas area. Now, with the caps provided by Mr. House, the two are well off enough to own their own thriving business. Mr. House sure has proven that he’s the man to restore the economy of New Vegas even after the horrendous attacks in North Vegas.

The news has been brought to you by the Vikki and Vance Casino. Vikki and Vance. Be our partner in crime. You know, they say no news is good news. But I think my program would be awfully dull if that were the case. It’s been a slow week, but the Mojave could use more of those. Coming up, I've got some tunes I think you all are gonna like.” (Event 2: Support - Mr. House)

Radio New Vegas stood atop of Black Mountain, a beacon of information in a dreary war filled Mojave Wasteland. The institution was established by the Courier as an independent news station to report on the NCR, Legion, and Mr. House and hold them accountable to the citizens in the first election, and it came as a surprise to none that it would expand. While the goal may be for the radio station to be established across the map, expansion is slow and steady.

The first attempt at expansion is finally at hand. Radio New Vegas has too much need of its own armed guards to patrol Black Mountain and ensure that there is no interference with the program, so it has bidded it's time saving caps to hire a group of engineers, scavengers and raiders to clear out REPCONN Headquarters, a location nearby that could serve as a second strong foundation for the station. This group is to be led by former NCR Ranger Dobson, who was relieved from his post after his negligence in failing to regularly report back with NCR HQ due to a broken radio. Ranger Dobson seems to be a good fit for leader of the crew, and has significant experience in leading men and women and seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

The goal is for this group to disable and reprogram the automated security system, eliminate any raiders or bandits who have taken up residence in the unprotected areas of the property, and establish a protected zone around the HQ so that further caps can be spent on remodelling and salvaging what systems are currently in place. The group is to limit casualties among themselves, but is instructed to open fire if fire is opened upon them first. (Event 3: General Influence)

  9. "This is Radio New Vegas, and I'm your host, Mr. New Vegas. And in case you're wondering if you've come to the right place, you have. All the latest news, coming your way right now. It's Mr. New Vegas, bringing to you the latest news on the happenings of the West, folks. First on the docket for the day, we've got that politician from the Old World who's been causing a ruckus across the Mojave. Barry Goldwater has made a name for himself as something of an icon of life here in the wasteland, and he has certainly shown himself to be dedicated to its peoples. The pre-war man has been urging his supporters to assist in the rebuilding of North Vegas, and he has staunchly denounced the Boomers. The Mojave could use more men like Barry, huh folks? That news was brought to you by the Tops Casino. You'll dig us, baby! We're the Tops! Anyway folks, stick around. We've got some great songs coming up for you." (Event 1: Support - Barry Goldwater)

"You're listening to Radio New Vegas, your little jukebox in the Mojave Wasteland. I'm Mr. New Vegas, and I'm here for you. Whoops, better put on my newsman fedora, here. We've got some breaking news for all you fine men, women, ghouls, supermutants, and deathclaws listening out here today. In the aftermath of the Siege at Nellis Air Force Base, folks just assumed that the Boomers, the Legion, and New Vegas had just shacked up for the long haul to oppose the NCR. Now, that coalition is falling apart. Caesar and his forces are reportedly bombing the old military base as I'm broadcasting live, and an invasion seems imminent. Now, it doesn't seem like President Kimball was all that important to the Coalition after all, huh? The preceding segment was sponsored by the Silver Rush. Silver Rush. Feel the rush of a warm laser in your hand. Anyway, we'll have more news for you at the top of the hour." (Event 2: Attack - Legion)

When the Courier left New Vegas, he firmly established the independence of Radio New Vegas as an independent organization, and one that sustains itself without the support of Mr. House or any of the major factions of the West. Indeed, the Courier had just the place in mind: Black Mountain. With the downfall of the State of Utobitha and the death of Tabitha, the location was vacant and ripe for the taking for any major faction to spew their own propaganda. Now, Black Mountain is the home to Radio New Vegas. The location has technicians and two additional radio hosts (though, obviously not as important as THE Mr. New Vegas) and a small army fielded to protect its own cut of the land. Revenue is brought in from many sponsors, primarily those in New Vegas and Primm, and is largely a successful operation. What was once a state of Supermutant cultists became the freest media in the Mojave, and its influence seems cemented with the approval of the Courier. (Event 3: Lore building, I guess? May not require a roll and I'd be content with just the two above)

  10. If you like news, you're gonna love our next segment. An important update on the Siege of Nellis Airforce Base. The battle has come to a close, and it looks like the NCR has managed to fend off the unlikely coalition forces of Caesar's Legion, Mr. House, and the Boomers.

The battle has changed relatively little in the struggle between these heavyweights here in the Mojave, but the tactics employed were worrying. Reports are coming in that the Boomers utilized child soldiers once again in significant numbers. More worrisome, there are at least a few child casualties that came at the hands of Mr. House's securitrons... regardless of who you are supporting in the upcoming election, these two factions will have a lot of questions to answer for. Anyway, Got some songs coming up for you right now. At least one is probably about love. (Event 1 - Attack Boomers/Mr. House)

It's just about time to get you some news. President Kimball has gotten around in these troubling times, and has personally been attending to the wounded men and women who fought in the recent battle at Nellis Airforce Base. It's rare that you see leaders with such a strong personal connection to their people. It is the hope of the Mojave that President Kimball, Caesar, and Mr. House can come to some agreement to make peace. After all, we don't have the Courier to save us now, do we? One more story for you... (Event 2: Support NCR)

Radio New Vegas Finally Resumes Broadcast

Mojave, mo' problems. Am I right folks? That's the catchphrase that Mr. New Vegas has been known for, and for over 300 years he has done the bidding of Mr. New Vegas and reported on the news, having a pro-Vegas influence on thousands of the unscrupulous men and women of the West. However, times are changing in the wasteland. The Courier, who's name has become a mix of real stories and legend, is responsible for one of the most subtle yet dramatic changes in the Mojave:

    The media.

Perhaps if the bombs had never dropped back in the day, the American people could have realized the true power of spinning the news. What people hear is what they think, and how that information is presented to them is the most unrealized power in the post-apocalyptic world. The Courier had a good head on his shoulders, and before he left the nuclear desert, he decided that the media must be reformed. Mr. New Vegas, for all of his years of dutiful years of service, simply was not what New Vegas needed. Mr. New Vegas was freed from his subservience to Mr. House, and now exists as his own AI program broadcasting on the latest happenings in the god forsaken West. After a long delay, Radio New Vegas has finally returned, and in better shape than ever before.

Mr. New Vegas is free thinking and capable of voicing his own opinion on news, with his operations now completely independent of New Vegas and his broadcast being where most wastelanders are getting their information on the war that has broke out once again between the New California Republic and the Coalition Forces. Now, with war raging in the sands of a broken world, these factions are going to have to face the people in the trial of public opinion...

As I said before, my opinion is that Admin is the only mod we need as long as we have established and agreed-upon rules that are enforced fairly and firmly. Maybe 3 subjective moderators is better than one subjective moderator, but I would prefer an objective ruleset to both.

I’m in that same boat. If Admin decides increasing mods is the way to go I’m all for it, but I think he could likely handle it. I’d think maybe one additional moderator with limited power would be better than a whole panel, however. There’s really not that much toxicity and I still believe it will be much better come December when election tensions are back down.

Awww. Thank you lol. Anyone that knows me knows that asides from politics and history I am a HUGE gamer. I have hundreds of hours in Fallout and THOUSANDS in Elder Scrolls. #Nerdlife

This is going to probably be the nerdiest thing ever, but one of my favorite gaming experiences ever was playing modded Fallout 3. I had a TON of mods on, one of which allowed you to recruit anyone you wanted. I used this rarely, but mostly to bring certain characters with me that I felt I could justify through roleplay. I kept a journal of my character at the time where he chronicled his adventures and quests of him and his trusted companion Leo Stahl, who journeyed with him after the Lone Wanderer helped him through Jett addiction. I don't remember too much of the details but him and the cyborg from Rivet City were my two main followers, and I had a mod where I had an underground base where I roleplayed having a faction of "Wasteland Reformers" who's goal was to establish a regional government across the wasteland the paid homage to Vault 101 by wearing the security armor and wielding batons and 10mm pistols. Ah, it's fun to remember 😛

I also had a mod in Skyrim where I had a mercenary group based in the tavern in Riverwood called The Sleeping Giants, named obviously after the tavern. It had both the wood elf and the human that hated each other in that town in it, as well as a few stable boys from across the map, one of the unnamed mages guild students, two of the poor workers from that one snowy city, and a few others I don't remember anymore.

That Marianne one is going to be worth alot some day

You'd think so, but a lot of those buttons are so unimportant that you can pick them up for fifty cents at a time. I collect political memorabilia, and I'm guilty of taking some long drives across the state to try new places and even have the phone number of a vendor in Chattanooga who usually lets me know if he has something I might enjoy. I've got buttons from pretty much every major campaign from 1960 to the modern day, and it's rare that I've had to pay more than 2$ ever. What can be more elusive IMO is t-shirts, posters, and where you can find it actual campaign literature.

A Marianne button would be awesome to have... but likely won't ever be worth too much I'd imagine. I'd pay 5$ just for the joke of a button though! Probably my favorite I have is an old Pat Robertson campaign pin, or my John Glenn for Senate pin even if they're pretty common.

We have rules.  But they aren’t enforced. Technically, the forum is only about discussing the game. We all violate that one. What he needs to to do is rewrite/update his rules. Make them clear. Ideally, he’d have other moderators that would the vote for it against a ban based on one of the violations of those rules.

I think the idea of @Herbert Hoover and @Reagan04 might best co-moderators. Neither provoked fights and both are fairly moderate political. They both have judicial temperaments.

I remember when Admin tried to enforce the rules to keep political discussion out period and to just focus discussion on 270soft products a few years ago... it didn't go well ;) First I think we had a football thread, and then it didn't take long for the usual political posts to get back through. The rules are good but we as a community have been very selective about which ones we've followed and which ones we have ignored. I wouldn't be surprised if Admin revised them sometime soon, but I would hate for comments to be turned on for THAT post just because it would be a mess 😛

  16. This topic has been brought up before and @admin_270 has expressed his own concerns for expanding moderation. If he ever changes his mind for whatever reasons I would be willing to lend a hand in moderation. I fully expect tensions to calm down after the election - when I first joined the forum back in 2015, it similarly ramped up in the leadup to the 2016 election with a lot of colorful personalities as well. If Anthony ever decides to open up moderation applications I'd likely want to help where I can but also I understand if he wants to just see if tensions fizzle out in the next few weeks. Regardless, I'll likely still around the forum because I love this community and the people here but I wish those well who choose not to partake for reasons that are valid to them :)
