These social media companies had a choice awhile ago, to become more like utilities or more like traditional media companies. They've chosen the latter route - they are now openly partisan.2 points

This thread is strictly for discussion/posts that relate/announce massive updates to the 270soft Wiki (The 270soft Wiki | Fandom). This source will be more informational than Twitter, as this allows more words in a post.1 point

This might be the best option. I guess it is sort of a subscription model, but one that is more firmly placed around a major event (that is, an update).1 point

-replaced old top image with new, more targeted State Map. More beautiful, better looking. Also it's not so redundant and more useful being up there. Florida 2018 Senatorial Campaign (President Infinity) | The 270soft Wiki | Fandom1 point

Complete revamp of the 2018 Florida Senatorial page. -Added new "County Breakdown", where you can sort the list of counties by name, population, R %, D%, Lead%, Org. Strength for both, Platform Distance for both. The table also says you can sort by County Status, but I'm not sure. Also added Legend for the uninitiated who don't know what the abbreviated Platform Distance and Organization Strength are. Also added a list for a guide to Tossup, Lean, Likely, and Safe % margins. Also added larger version of starting State Map-thinking I'll replace it with an actual "state1 point

Now, now. This is supposed to be an election simulator based on sensible grounding and a practical view of events with minimal bias - not a pop-culture, primetime adult cartoon, dystopian pander.1 point

The current subscription system seems to work well at the moment but am always open to new ideas.1 point

I personally don't like the paying for each scenario. Then can people pick and choose which to pay for? I think it wouldnt really help and people would just rely on the custom scenarios.1 point
-
I would be fine with purchasing official scenarios (ex. 2024). Especially if the new scenario offered new game mechanics (automatic ads, polling, voter groups, etc).1 point

Call me old-fashioned, but I miss the halcyon, good-old days of "fire-and-forget," game purchases (not subscriptions, but PURCHASES) when the whole game (barring comprehensive and sparingly-released expansions of significant new content) was available at once with one transaction. Where has this Golden Age of computer gone?1 point

Anthony - The current system works for me, but alternatives are fine too. Maybe this would be okay if you want to move away from a subscription model: Base Game - $15.00 (deals for buying more than one) Editor - $5.00 Future Official Campaigns - $2.50 each1 point

2014 HOUSE CAMPAIGN (Congress Infinity): -Added New Mexico info -Added both DCCC and NRCC logos for both infoboxes -Realized my ineptitude allowed me to post the "2014 SENATE" home screen photo, and not the 2014 HOUSE-will fix later. -Added first 3 GOP surrogates and all their relevant information. 2014 House Campaign (Congress Infinity) | The 270soft Wiki | Fandom1 point

When everything is shamelessly partisan in the United States, and the two main parties are eroding the nation to mud, what credibility or value is denouncing anything in the United States just for being, "blatantly partisan?" That's what I was trying to say when a rant slipped the gate. Now I must have a walk and get a coffee, and calm down.1 point

Twitter and FB have become full-on Orwellian. They seem to be using 1984 as a manual.1 point

Ya, I haven't used FB outside of work reasons for a long time. ProtonMail Soverin (what I've now switched over to using fully) is mostly for small businesses or sole proprietors. I hardly ever order from Amazon anymore. Books? My local book seller can get me almost anything I want and I can order from them online. Similarly, local hardware store and so on.1 point

Most of my CI projects deal with foreign and historical legislative bodies without parliamentary responsible government but having an FPTP electoral, like my mentioned several time 1871-WW1 German Imperial Reichstag election series, as a good example.1 point

I haven’t been permanently banned from Twitter, but after recent events I decided to retire my account (I made a Gab but won’t use it much until more accounts move over). Been only a few days but I definitely feel less neurotic checking dozens of times a day. Already had stopped using Facebook in 2013 or so, and am trying to migrate to ProtonMail from Gmail (which I had used since 2004). Cutting out Amazon and YouTube will be a bit harder, but neither is really a social media platform.1 point

So I didn't realize that the top posts in this thread were the oldest. I've been missing a lot of stuff, oof. BTW, we've been doing massive updates to the House 2008 and House 2014 pages on the Wiki. Hope y'all like the new look we're building for those pages, it's taking a lot of trial and error. 2014 House Campaign (Congress Infinity) | The 270soft Wiki | Fandom1 point

Also closed the company's Twitter account. What's the point of building a following there, only to have the company restrict communication, or even delete the account because they don't like a tweet? That's what happened with FB - I started a company account, built it to over 1,000 people, then had updates not appearing in people's timelines while FB simultaneously required payment for placement. Bait and switch - no thanks. If I want to pay to communicate, I'd rather companies be forthright about it, and TBH I'd rather be able to communicate with the user base directly instead of throug1 point

I've begun to shift company e-mail away from Gmail and to Soverin. Not only is Gmail a key part of a monopoly that is stifling free speech, but the service isn't really that good. It took them how many years to add a Snooze button? Beware companies that give you free services - there's almost always a cost, whether individually or societally. Similar with Google search - it used to be that their search service was the best, but now it seems worse than DuckDuckGo in some cases IMHO.1 point

Hello all, I'm trying to get some wisdom from the crowd on how to dominate in Senate/House runs for Congress Infinity. Extremely helpful information will be reposted in either blog posts or their own dedicated pages on the Wiki. Any help is appreciated, I will let you know if your help is re-posted. If you provide advice that applies to certain years or scenarios, please specify what year, what team, and how effective it is. If the advice is universal or general, please specify. If your advice can also apply to Congress Forever, please specify.1 point

Momentum is everything. I got Labour to 324 seats (2 short of a majority) but the Tories on 193 by alternating pro-Labour/anti-Tory leaflets every day. I also banked anti-Tory billboard ads just in case they started doing well with momentum. Issues I used were Brexit/Immigration for Labour and Environment for Tories, Labour start off with a negative modifier for Brexit and Immigration but if you lean into it you end up with bonuses. All of this meant that I was able to keep my momentum at a decent level to mitigate against the anti-Labour scripted events, and eventually get the Tories on n1 point
