"My darling Marcelle, for what reason should I even attack the Federalists this term. It appears they are content to tear themselves to shreds!" Upon arriving, the President-elect, soon to be sworn in, writes a letter to leaders from all factions in the Democratic-Republican Party "My dear friends and fellow Americans, We have seized the reigns of power here in Washington. Let it now be our solemn duty to do the people's work. To defend Liberty a

  3. I don't think @Actinguy is more power-grubbing. He doesn't make many demands on other people and is too selfless to be in a power-grubbing argument. He might be among one of the least power-grubbing people on here. Aside from stance on refusing to never take an office if it is offered, you have a lot of traits that are often associated with power-grubbers. I think you are very authoritarian in your way of thinking (even if I agree with much of it). You're basically an authoritarian anti-authoritarian, possibly also an authoritarian contrarian. It's something unique. It's why I used the term Pa

  5. Presidents tend not to have good first debates, so I wouldn't be surprised if most people consider Biden to have won the debate, as long as he doesn't have major gaffes or brain-freezes. Biden has more time to prepare for the debate, and has done a lot of debates relatively recently because of the primaries.

We used to go on cruises together. Lately we’ve been going to bed and breakfasts since cruises are obviously out. My wife is into antiquing. I had a great find about two weeks ago, original newspapers announcing things like Abraham Lincoln’s death and the possible discovery of the South Pole. Also found an advertisement selling tickets for the return trip (from the US) on the Titanic. I’m hav

  19. Not sure if I'll watch it or just highlights, but for most of the primary debates I watched the highlights (if that), so I marked that. I think Biden will win because of the lowered expectations that the Trump campaign has (foolishly) pushed for so long makes it easier for him to beat those expectations. I don't think the debates will have much effect, though, because I don't think there's many people that are still undecided or willing to be persuaded at this point (and besides, debate bumps usually go away after a few days). Maybe it gets some voters excited and they're more likely to

  20. The ideas behind the 50 judges is that every state would feel represented under the law and that each state would have an even stronger bond to the government. I came up with this idea partially because so many justices are from DC or NY. Obviously, the purpose of this branch isn't to represent the people, but if one was to make reform that did represent the people in all levels of government (but not necessarily in all ways), this would be a way to do it. Conservatives might like this in response to the Senate reform suggestion, which would help Democrats (although the purpose of that r

As a country, I would imagine that it's most likely going to continue to exist for at least a hundred years (After that, it becomes hazier because of the possibility of technology or other advancements changing the world. ) The more interesting question is what form will it be? Will it still be a Democratic Republic? Will it still be a superpower? Etc. I mean, Russia still exists, but the Russia of the 19th century was very different from the Russia of the 20th century which was very different from the current Russia (there's plenty of other countries that can be used as examples as we

  27. I don't have a hard time believing Trump at least floated the possibility. Trump seems to like to think outside of the box, and wouldn't have a problem considering something like that. She didn't have political experience, but neither did he. As far as I can tell from what he has done publicly, I think Pence in 2016 did about as well as I could imagine a VP nominee doing for Trump.

  30. I am one of the votes for "maybe a decade", depending on how things play out with this election, and what happens afterwards. Anyone who has studied history can see that the US is going towards civil war at this point. Review the decadency and societal conditions surrounding the collapse of Rome, and you will see many stark similarities. There are some similarities to events that occurred at the start of the 20th century in the Weimar Republic and pre-Revolution Russia as well. At this point, America is not unified as a nation. One half of the political spectrum believes that the

  38. Actually, I think its because @Reagan04 is a perfect hybrid person for the forum. He's going to win the conservatives on this forum. He's going to win some of the moderates and liberals too since he's an anti-Trump, pro-Biden. He's probably also posted less stuff that rubs people the wrong way, not like I try to rub people the wrong way, but I think I can be aggressive sometimes. Reagan is only aggressive to @admin_270. Maybe that's winning him points.

When China invests, they typically include clauses about the repercussions for non-payment, and they are very serious. We might have something similar to the Star Trek Federation or something --- a country basically run by the United Nations or something akin to that. Alternatively, in 500 years, a country might not be necessary. Innovation might make it where we aren't dependent on anything a country or government can give us. Our genes might be modified at birth in such a way that unethical or immoral behavior rarely occurs and we've been modified to be more aware of it when it happens. Perhaps we read
