Replaced/Revised Issues

Recommended Posts

Basically, this topic is for issues that should be revised or replaced in offical 80soft scenarios.

I honestly have little to say. However, I believe the stances for Affirmative Action should go like this:

//Affirmative Action

Make all federal agencies follow strict quotas.

Affirmative Action is needed for equality and to prevent rascism.

Affirmative Action is useful and should be kept.

Affirmative action programs only in certain cases.

Abolish all federal affirmative action programs.

In my opinion, the current centrist and center-left stances for Affirmative Action are a bit odd, since I don't think many people base their thoughts soley on "Diversity" and instead their thoughts shift more towards "Fairness", "Equality", "Preventing rascism" and etc.

I agree.

Also, the "right" position in Personal Tax should change for "Reduce income tax for the rich" to "Abolish income tax". I doubt that anyone would be candidate saying that only the rich should have their taxes reduced, but certainly some radicals would like to abolish the income tax.

Didn't Bob Dole (1996 Republican canidate) want to reduce taxes for the rich?

Really? ONLY for the rich? I'm surprised that he won more than 10% of the votes, then.

I'm pretty sure. Not 100%, but I'm pretty sure.

//Balanced Budget

A deficit is fine - focus on social programs.

The deficit should be lowered, but there are larger concerns.

Balance lowering the deficit with other priorities.

A Balanced Budget amendment to eliminate the deficit.

Eliminate all national debt as quickly as possible.

It's somewhat odd that a center-left posiston on balanced budget would be that millitary spending is a higher priority than the deficit. It should be more neutral and not say that a certain issue is a higher priority.

//Abortion

Unrestricted access to abortions.

Legal abortions in the first or second trimesters for the mother's health.

Abortion should be a state issue.

Legal abortions only in certain cases.

No legal abortions.

(For 2004 scenario, it should replace, I don't know, maybe Affirmative Action?)

//Iraq War

We should begin pulling out troops.

We should work to end the war as soon as possible.

Pulling out of Iraq will have large consequences, we must continue.

We should continue the war in Iraq.

We need to dramatically increase war efforts!

//Ecology

The environment must be our first national priority.

Ecological policies must come before economic policies.

Balance environmental policies with sound economic policies.

Economic policies must come before environmental policies.

The environment is fine, we don't need to worry about it.

The Wiki says: Dole promised a 15% across-the-board reduction in income tax rates

Very well. The 1996 scenario (One of them, anyway) posted on the 80soft website also says that he advocated cutting taxes only for the rich.

Regardless, I'm sure that is wrong. (The user-made scenario)

The issues in this game need to be changed around. Jobs and the economy are vital issues and they arent in the game. Outsourcing and unions I believe are absent. It is also silly that a candidate can only talk about an issue once. In real elections people hammer in key issues over and over.

How can you run a "it's the economy stupid" campaign when youre not allowed to talk about the economy, and only talk about the issue once. PLEASE CHANGE THIS. This is the only part I like about politcal machine better. In fact Ill say simply because of their issue usage I like playing that game better, and modding and simulating this one better.

Personally, I think the 1992 scenario's Crime issue posistions are..well, they could be better.

//Crime

Way more funding to prevent crime.

We need more police officers and prevention funding.

We need more police officers.

Crime will be prevented by stiffer prison sentences.

We need far stiffer prison sentences.

Those are the stances as they appear in the orginal game. Anyone have any changes?

//Terrorism

We should surrender to the terrorists.

We need to fight the cause of terrorism, economic and social injustice.

Focus on better foreign policy, but use military force if we must.

We should not hesitate to use military force against terrorism.

Terrorism can only be stopped one way: military force.

Iran

Far-left: Iran is not a threat to world peace, they deserve to have nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Terrorism

Far-left: Imperialist aggression and exploitation is the main cause of terrorism in the world.

Gun control

Make 2004 far-left stance on gun control same as the 2008 far-left stance.
