Winning as the Tories?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed the same phenomenon that a lot of you have mentioned. Just to be certain that it wasn't me, I tried playing the Canadian scenario. Sure enough, I had the same thing happen. The Tory vote collapsed in the last two weeks. I've played 10 times and won a minority government once....by about 5 seats.

My losses, however, have been really impressive. I've lost official party status once and nearly lost Alberta a few times. More than once I've been swept out of every province but that one.

Either the AI has been improved greatly, I suck at the new game mechanics, or something is wrong. I don't remember sucking so poorly in the old version.

I've won Conservative Majorities with a Stronach character I created...she's kinda half CR and half C. The worst thing for me as the Conservatives was losing a lot of the popular vote in Alberta with my own character because I was too centrist, and near the same as Martin.

You know what's sad? My first reaction when I saw Stronach mentioned was "friggin crap MichaelM is at it again."

Haha

Anywho, I created her with her achilles heal being expierience. I put charisma at a 5, and she ended up doing pretty well.

I actually like this new version. It more of a challange and you have to think to win. Unlike the previous games where after a while any gamey strategy would work.

I've played as the LibDems several times (and as a few minor parties, too). The results tend to be as follows:

-As the LibDems, if I attack the Tories, they slump and I rise. I've gotten them down into double digits seat-wise (under 50, comparable to what happens when I play them).

-As the LibDems, if I attack Labour, they hold steady (or even rise) and I win few extra seats.

-As a minor party, the Tories do better. They've even beaten Blair once or twice.

Here's what I think is happening:

The LibDems are attacking the Tories when you play as the Tories. The results gel with that, since the results when I play as the Tories and as the LibDems attacking the Tories are -very- similar. I usually play on Easy, but this comes across as what's happening.

Hello

The Tory problem seems to only occur with Howard as leader. I tested this by creating a new character with slightly (althought not overwhelmingly) better credentials than Howard. I then played as the new character and secured a minority Government and played as a small party and watched as the Tories secured a minority Government. This was on Easy level.

However, with Howard as leader, I've seen the Tories wiped out to about 20-40 seats on occasion. I don't think that anyone would even consider that happening in the real election. A complete wipeout in the South West happened as well.

I hope this helps

For anyone who has had this problem, it would help on our end if we know which version you are using/were using when you had the Tories finishing with about 20-40 seats.

80soft has done extensive testing (about 40 trials) of versions 1.00.3 and 1.00.4 looking in particular for this result, and we haven't been able to replicate it. (These trials involved computer players running all the major campaigns.)

Sincerely,

Freedom, notice how close your result was to mine? All the same regions went to the same parties and the seat results were within a difference of 30.

perhaps the problem with ur testing is that the computer is only playing? does the computer react differently to human players?
