Civil War game Forge of Freedom

Recommended Posts

In a discussion with @vcczar I remembered a great Civil War game called Forge of Freedom. So my question is, does someone have played this game here or heard about it as well?

Yeah, I guess it's not that popular. But from what I have seen in seems to be very in-depth.

I don't think a strategy game based solely around the U.S. Civil War would appeal to me, to be honest. I like strategy games, don't get me wrong, but I like them with potentially large scope of material temporally and geographically (even if only reaching it's full potential through fan-based scenario and campaign making, which is also an essential for). On top of the TheorySpark game (obviously), I like Civilization 2 (especially with the Test of Time), Age of Empire 1, 2, and 3, and Age of Mythology, and I've tinkered with Civilization 3, Civilization: Call to Power 1, Empire Earth 1, and a couple of others that match, by description, by criteria (and their CD-ROM's are still sitting on my shelf), but the latter ones were not nearly as satisfying in application

Yeah, I was into games that were strictly focused on military strategy when I was in my teens and early twenties. Now, I favor games that have more of the political, social, economic, aspects of the games. I think Ageod's Civil War II does a decent job of including some non-military factors, but it isn't quite enough. It would be fun to play a game as Lincoln.
