Big news day in both the US and UK today

I know it won't happen but it would be great if Trump and Johnson resigned on the same day.

President Pence does have a nice ring to it, Pence/Haley 2020.

What makes him so uniquely scary?

Not much.  Just the racism.  And the sexism.  And the anti-Semitism.  And the fact that he's bragged about sexually assaulting women.  And the classification of any media he doesn't like as "enemy of the people".  And the description of white supremacists and neo-Nazis as "very fine people".  And that he's unapologetic about calling for the death penalty for five teenagers who were wrongly convicted of a crime.  And that he encourages violence at his rallies and even offered to pay the legal fees of his supporters if they assault protestors.  And that he mocked a reporter's disability.  And the fact that he calls himself a nationalist.  And that he retweeted Mussolini.  And that his father was arrested at a Klan rally.  And that he threatened to jail a political opponent.  And that he called for that same opponent to be shot, prompting the Secret Service to talk to him.  And that after all that, he threatened her life again.  And that he falsely claims millions of people illegally voted for her.  And that he obsessively lies about crowd sizes and even orders the National Park Service to edit photos to make his crowds seem larger.  And that he wants to restart an arms race.  And that he wants to pull the US out of NATO.  And that he is a climate science denier, even censoring press statements on climate change.  And that he gives intelligence secrets to the Russians in the Oval Office, which resulted in one of our spies being extracted from Russia.  And that he wants to commit war crimes.  And that he's called himself the "King of Israel".  And that he said the Constitution lets him do whatever he wants.  And that he doesn't like the idea of separation of powers.  And that he's said Democrats who don't clap for him are un-American and committing treason.  And that he called immigration an "invasion".  And that he wants to prevent all refugees from coming to the United States.  And that his immigration policies have taken children away from their parents and put human beings into overflowing migrant detention centers, where kids have died and women have to drink out of toilets.  And that he profits off the presidency.  And that he attacks judges who rule against him.  And that he wanted to ban all Muslims from entering the United States, and has tried to enact policies to that effect.  And he gives notice about diplomatic issues by tweet.  And that he altered a hurricane map with a Sharpie so that he didn't have to admit a mistake.  And that he wants to nuke hurricanes.  And that he promotes bogus conspiracy theories.  And that he praises dictators.  And that he has said a whistleblower should be put to death.  And that he cancels visits to foreign countries when they won't agree to sell off portions he wants.  And that his former lawyer is afraid he won't leave office willingly if he loses the 2020 election.  And that Trump "jokes" about staying in office past 2025.

Really, just minor, minor stuff, nothing too serious.

Thanks to Pelosi I lost over $110 on the stock market today.

Also Greta probably had something to do with it too so thanks

If stock market performance is your sole metric for judging a president, you should be overjoyed with Presidents Clinton and Obama, who presided over a better stock market performance than any Republican in recent history.  The idea that Republicans are "good for the stock market" is a myth.

If they impeached Trump, as splendid as it would be, it would be for the U.S. Government like when, at the end of the first Robocop movie from the '80's, when the CEO of OCP publicly and vocally "fires" Dick Jones, irrelevating the classified "Directive No. 4" that made all executives and projects of OCP untouchable by the eponymous protagonist of the movie, allowing Dick Jones as being a scapegoat to be thrown under the bus (and literally shot out the window of a skyscraper), leaving all the rest of the horrific, corrupt, vile, and high criminal stuff OCP was doing above any sort of justice - though crying for Dick Jones was VERY hard by that point. I'm sorry for the cynical analog, but that's how I see it in a broad sense.

One of my favorite movies - and you're not wrong, it's looking more and more like reality every day.  Robocop got a lot of predictions right.  Trump is largely a symptom of our country's unresolved problems - the conditions that created Trump will still be there, waiting for the next person who wants to be like Greg Stillson from "The Dead Zone".

Fixed to Greg Stillson - Greg Stanton is a real-life politician

By any measure of justice, he should've been impeached a long time ago.  I'm actually a bit surprised it's now that Pelosi and the Democrats want to go for it.  My hope is that this is an ironclad case, because they only get one chance at this.

He really shouldn't have been the Republican nominee in the first place, let alone impeached awhile ago.

We will just have to see what happens I suppose

If only the opposition in the UK were willing to vote no confidence in Johnson, then they could get rid of him. Of course, however, they are frit, and won't

What I'm reading from various sources is that they think a better strategy is to let Johnson "stew in his own juices" - let him keep having one disaster after another and delay the Brexit deadline again before agreeing to another election, making Johnson unable to claim he delivered on Brexit.  Time will tell if this works.

Despite the opposition's (frankly abhorrent) attempts to stop Brexit, from all accounts it seems that Johnson has something planned. The constant, almost smirking repetition of "we will obey the law, we will also leave on October 31st" I think suggests that they're going to do something big.

He certainly has the attitude. Fortunately, he doesn't the personal power to rule by fiat and decree of a true tyrant. Or to just order the arbitrary arrest, summary execution, "disappearance," or exile of his political of his political opponents, rather than just mocking, deriding, or insulting them like a schoolyard child.

Even without that, I'm convinced he's sold out humanity's future.

You make him out to be the damned Antichrist. Don't you see. He's not nearly as competent, effective, clever, manipulative, or Machiavellian as Napoleon or Hitler were, nor is he really as popular or as much support, even among Americans (especially now) as would be needed for the power grabs you speak of. He doesn't control the House, have firm support in enough States to make Constitutional amendments, the military command is probably wary of him given his wonky pronouncements on many such issues and the circumstances around Mattis' departure, and now many senior members of his own party, and his own wife, are distancing themselves from him. His position for such a bold move is HIGHLY dubious. Even if he isn't successfully tried in the separate-but-insulting-to-the-common non-justice system of 'impeachment' U.S. Federal elected officials enjoy that was NOTHING to do, at all, with due process or justice and is utterly inappropriate to the leadership of a REPUBLIC, he's still obviously on the downslide, and his being an incompetent fraud (NOT a cunning tyrant in waiting) is apparent to any who see past the bullshit (which is more transparent than ever).

You make a very good point on the comparisons that many on the left like to make to Trump.  By associating him with many of their comparisons, they are actually saying that Trump is some super genius who has developed a master plan to consolidate power under him and is actively undermining American political institutions without anyone catching on.  That is a LOT more than I would give him credit for.
