Hasn't it survived several big fires already in it's centuries-long history?

It did survive a religious fanatic that tried to exterminate the gypsies- mainly fueled by being scorned by a gypsy woman. Not exactly a traditional fire, but still a fire.

I admit I smiled ^^

Well actually that did not exist but is one of our greatest romans from Victor Hugo (and a good Disney movie according to me)

The fire seems to not reach the southern part hopefully

Yeah, I need to work on that. I keep forgetting that gypsy is a slur.

Such a tragedy. Hope they can salvage most of it.

By sheer serendipity, many of the artifacts and paintings within were at another location for restoration.

Still, the building itself is as rooted in history as the artifacts contained inside. But that is fortunate.

Here are some pictures of the cathedral

2 tierces of a roof from 1200 built by humble men is gone

But the southeast part seems saved

Lâimage contient peut-être : une personne ou plus et intérieur

Lâimage contient peut-être : 1 personne, nuit et intérieur

Lâimage contient peut-être : intérieur

Lâimage contient peut-être : intérieur

However the biggest artefacts of christianity in the cathedral such as the Crown of Thorns of Jesus or the vest of our King Louis IX have been saved like many medieval paintings

THESE were in the cathedral, they have been transported to a safe place

Honestly it looks better than I expected from the images outside the cathedral

Yes the upper part and the spire are gone but the essential of the treasury of Notre Dame has been saved

A french donation website already started this morning

For myself I contributed despite being student

Aucune description de photo disponible.

A lot of donators from industrials and rich people already said they would give hundreds of billions of euros

My God! Do you know what started the fire?

Normally it would be accidental work on the building

Justice is inquiring

French press is unanimous

"Notre drame": les Unes de la presse au lendemain de l'incendie de Notre-Dame de Paris

Millionnais and billionnairs already promised 700 millions of euros
