Former Senator Birch Bayh(D-Indiana) has passed away.

While his contemporaries such as Ted Kennedy might be more well known, Bayh's impact on American life cannot be ignored. He played a key role in the 1964 Civil Rights Act, and 1965 Voting Rights Act. He also became a vocal advocate for Title IX, and also the Equal Rights Amendment(an amendment he submitted to Congress) . Two Amendments owe their existence cause of the late Senator. The 25th Amendment, which updated the line of succession and what should the cabinet do when the President is incapacitated. And the other being the 26th, lowering the voting age from 21 to 18.
