The alliances have been created among the League of Nations, for defensive purposes. Thailand doesn't exist, as it was British when it was invaded. Persia will accept an alliance if we let them in one. Our tactics are on point, but our allies are stubborn. We fail to create any base due to how general the location is.

We are a bit concerned about the lack of preparation we see throughout the alliance.

We can double our army before going to debt if current economic trends continue. If our economy improves, we can triple it.

Let's double it for now, but say tripling it isn't off the table in the future.

Research is halted due to the unorganized war department I swear you Liberals have the worst time with the military

Pres. Langford cruelly jokes that it seems the military hates their party with a passion. She doubles down and demands some sort of product by the end of the year, regardless of the type of model it is, bomb, vehicle, they must help the nation.

Somehow, Liberals whip the Libertarians so hard they shut up for now.

OOC: Hehe

16 hours ago, Kingthero said:

The country is angered that the President has taken such a middle stance on an issue so heavily biased towards one side.

We will make no further comment on the issue as it would only exacerbate the concerns with the issue. For now, it shall be left.

16 hours ago, Kingthero said:

The President could not get anything done; However, thanks to the Conservatives, this issue has been solved.

There was little control that the federal government could force the Californians into doing.

Midterms

National Strength: We rank 2nd in the list of the top 10 countries: Russia, United States, Germany, France, China, Great Britain, Mexico, Austria, Sweden, Spain.

Military Strength: Our professional army is 80,000 men and 75 ships, with a reserve army of 120,000 men solely for defense. We have naval bases in Hawaii, Cuba, Panama, St. Pierre and Miquelon, American Polynesia, and Japan.

Foreign Affairs: Russia and China have a super alliance, same with League of Nations and American Alliances. For reference, Russian borders are pre-our timeline-WW1 Russian borders, and Chinese expand all the way west to Persia.

Military: Our military is semi-active. Some of our military is in Pacific Bases, while others are static.

Economy: The economy is stabilized.

Trade: Trade stabilizes, and begins to grow among allied nations.

Budget: Our budget is currently balanced, and it has no debt. Our budget consists of the income of 45% taxes 40% tariff 10% overseas territories/canals and 5% nationalized industries, and the expenditure of 65% military 15% gov. upkeep 20% infrastructure and 0% surplus growth. (SD: 30)

Social Harmony: The country is united against a possible threat.

Immigration: Immigration levels slow the rapid exponential growth, however the huge influx of immigration has led to housing shortages and high unemployment.

Mood of the people: People are beginning to prepare for a doomsday scenario.

Party Power: Liberals take a full majority in the Senate, while Conservatives take the House.

-------------

Congress

Liberals 53/104 Senate 39% US Rep

Conservatives 50/104 Senate 51% US Rep

Socialists 1/104 Senate 10% US Rep

State of Affairs

Chinese forces become occupied fighting rebels in India, preventing them from their scheduled invasion of Persia. Russia ponders whether to end Persia before they grab an ally, but decides against it. Russian intel suggests that Sweden may be considering siding with the Russian-Chinese alliance due to fears of economic collapse.

Our allies are so incompetent they refuse to establish bases on the front, forcing the Germans to protect both their own border and the Austrian Confederacy (Which each country inside AH has its own military). The Confederacy are attempting to centralize power, at least for the military, so we will see the outcome of that. Ottomans lost their Arabian territory, but reformed to consist of modern day Iraq/Kuwait to the east, and Bulgaria to the west. Greeks have their own independence, along with the west coast states. Britain has general control over relevant Northeastern Africa states and Arabian Peninsula states.

Germany requests that we build a base in German-Annexed Denmark to help protect the strait from the Russian navy. Ottomans think they can hold their respective strait.

In domestic news, many State Governments have been electing Conservative Governors, showing the signs of a growing Conservative surge. Disenfranchised libertarians seem to be moving to the Conservatives, though the Liberal Libertarians are staying with the party.

The economy stabilizes, with no significant events.

After the President responds to these events, the next election will be called.

We propose conducting talks with the Swedish about American investment in Sweden to save them from economic collapse and therefore, from turning to Russia and China.

We are glad the alliance is taking relevant steps to going through with a defensive plan.

America will definitely help build a base in German-Annexed Denmark. We are a bit concerned with the optics of America building a base in a forcibly occupied country, however. We keep the offer open to the Ottomans if they feel it is necessary.

After 12 years of Liberals in power, it is natural that the pendulum swings back. We just hope it isn't too far back. Our power in the Senate and relative power in the House can help us maintain a relevant face if the worst would happen and we lose the presidency.  We are of course, happy that the Liberal Libertarians are staying with the party.

The new homes that will be built under a Socialist Labour Administration mentioned in our last platform will be mostly comprised of a new type of housing called local authority housing which will be built by local authorities to ensure that rent is genuinely affordable.

Trade: Create free trade deals with nations if they agree to strict protections for workers and the natural resources of the nations involved.

Budget: A deficit is fine. Focus on how the government can make people's lives better.

Former Vice President Carly Trebuano announces final bid for President in 1952

60 White Woman

Conservative

Michigan

Sen. Dan Cruz (C-FL)

The Conservatives repeated Leadership on many issues that have united the American people and solved conflicts while Liberal Presidents failed to get anything done

National Strength: This has become a major issue for the nation and it is now clear that the Liberal ineffectiveness to boost us into status as a superpower cost us greatly in the realm of National Security. We are flanked by Russia and China on this list and we can't afford to be weak. Therefore, I propose the creation of the "Great 8" or G8 if you will, to counter this Axis of Evil in the East. This alliance shall consist of the United States, Germany, France, Great Britain, Mexico, Austria, Sweden, and Spain. Should one of these nations refuse, we will try our damnedest to make sure they do not, then we could begin to invite other allies such as Japan. The G8 would be the governing body that would oversee the Defense wing of League of Nations operations and would greatly increase our efficacy in geopolitics by forming a credible defense and deterrent against an Imperial Alliance spanning nearly all of Asia. It is time we took power and control away from a party without ideas and put strong and stable leadership in charge of this nation in order to better secure our position as a leader in this world.

Military Strength: Once again this President and her Party has failed to bring a strong and stable Defense Department! It is now categorically proven that the Conservatives are the best on Foreign Policy for the mere fact of our eminent competence in managing the defense forces of this nation. I will build the bases that the President couldn't and I will make sure that the Defense Department gets back on track, something that Liberal Leaders have been failing to do for over a decade. We must embolden our forces and adopt "Peace Through Strength" as our motto. The G8 should work to rival and surpass the Imperial Axis in order to keep them from any further expansion.

Foreign Affairs: This is a major focus this campaign as the people are now worried greatly about Foreign Affairs and the Liberal Party has proven their inability to manage our defense. Our people are scared, and rightly so with the Liberals at the helm. We reiterate our call for the G8, with possible “undercard” nations like Japan and Canada also joining along. It’s important we establish this to make the Great 8 the leaders of the Defense initiative of the Global alliance led by the United States erected to stop the Imperial Axis. My Secretary of State pick, current Governor of California, Ron Reynolds will be working relentlessly to this end.

Military: The bases need to be maintained and expanded upon. Building up forces in Japan and Germany has become a necessity at this point and those that wouldn’t do so are playing a dangerous and foolish gambit with American Security.

Economy: Is the Shipping Industry really still nationalized? I mean, come on now! Even if you disagree with me in other areas, I urge Liberal Libertarians to vote with me this one election to put me in the White House so we can get this key policy position accomplished on DAY ONE. It’s time we stood up to the Socialism of the, well, Socialists and the Socialism-lite of a Liberal Party which refuses to let a crucial aspect of our economy be run by the Free Market. Liberal obstruction on this issue ends Day 1 if Conservatives and Libertarians unite around a Trebuano/Cruz in ‘52 ticket.

Trade: Once we accomplish this denationalization, I propose a “wide-net” trade policy in which the G8 and hopefully the League of Nation in its entirety will open up to each other on the grounds of Free Trade. As well as this, I’d like arms trade deals exclusive to the G8 between us and the other 7 powers involved as a safeguard against the Imperial Axis. We can use Trade as a weapon of defense in more than just one way here folks, it isn’t just about maintaining sanctions, and this is something the Liberal Leadership has sorely missed.

Budget: My position remains unchanged, the budget is a non-partisan issue and I support its continued surplus. I will look into corresponding spending cuts and reallocation into military ventures however in order to keep this surplus as we head into High-Defense mode.

Social Harmony: I hope to use this unity to get voters behind a candidate for not only Libertarians who want a Free Market and Conservatives who are tired of seeing Washington disregard their values, but also Americans who want to be safe and now see that even though Liberals market themselves as Defense Conservatives, they simply are not, and cannot defend us from the threats we stand to face in the years ahead.

Immigration: The radio silence from the Liberals on this issue has been deafening. I am the daughter of an immigrant, and my Dad came from Italy to flee Socialism and work in an American factory to better our Free Market Capitalism. But we have to recognize that we need to be more selective with immigrants in this economy. This is broad consensus and we need better standards for entry. I am not calling for anything radical or glaring, simply mild reform to underpin the road to reigniting economic growth.

Mood: We understand the people are scared. And we are prepared to quench their fear. We will do what the Liberals could not and assuage these fears of the people by sending a strong message that real Leadership has come to Washington, there are now experienced Leaders in charge. We must take the use we can of this, people are fearful and through fear we must breed hope.

Party: The national ticket will campaign on national issues, Governor Reynolds will maximize gains in the California Congressional delegation of 30 people. We want our local candidates to campaign on more Domestic Issues while Foreign Policy is channeled by Trebuano/Cruz. Our local candidates will constantly implore values to generate socially conservative base turnout as well as tout economics to appeal to Libertarians. Our coalition this election will be built on an energized Socially Conservative base angered by this President’s statements, Libertarians disaffected with Liberal and Socialist Economics, as well as the crossover voters of people who may not be either of these things, they may not be Conservative, but they are scared and they know they need Real Leadership to keep them safe, Vice President Trebuano is that leader for them.

Incumbent: We attack her management of Defense as well as statements on Social Issues, beyond that we stick to what Conservatives can offer.

Age: 66

Party: Liberal

Resident state: Iowa

VP nominee: VP Jerry Francis (L-MA)

Key Issue to Defend in Theoretical Debate: Defense Strategies and the Bonus At Home

Platform (see State of the Union):

National Strength: The fact is that Russia is incredibly strong. It would be unwise of us to start claiming that we will pass them alone. That is not our goal, our goal is to be able to defeat them if they would pursue a reckless foreign policy against us or our allies. Together, Europe, the Middle East, and America, we are strong. We are stronger than we have ever been, and the League of Nations stands better for it. The President appreciates the Conservatives' dedication to our country's continued strength, and she proposes something else as a defensive board at the League. Instead, she says the Defense leaders from every country, not just the large ones, should be able to serve on a board that determines policy and best ways to defend against possible Chinese and Russian invasions. No land will be prioritized. If Persia needs troops, we send them there. If Germany needs them, they go there. If the Swedes need help, they go there. This will not be a petty I-need-this task force like the G8 would become.

Military Strength: We need to entertain the idea of another naval base somewhere in Europe, perhaps to serve as a joint base with either England, France, or Germany. We need to also entertain the idea of letting Italy into the alliance. This is no longer about ideology, but about the survival of democracy in Europe and in the world.

Foreign Affairs: The Chinese are getting bogged down by pro-independence rebels in India and in the other occupied territories. We want to step up cooperation. We plan to beef up support for Pakistani, Ukrainian, Indian, Bangladeshi, Thai, Chinese, Russian, and Polish rebels throughout the two countries. America expects Germany, France and other European powers to support us in this adventure.

Military: We must be on high alert. Conservatives have attempted to take the high road on the military, but no longer. The military has attempted to take a position against the Liberal leaders, despite us having been in power for 12 years. I will pressure my Defense Secretary to make sure that the military actually listens to the concerns the country has. Bombs must be developed, armored vehicles are as well. Where is the leadership at the Pentagon?

Economy: Liberals have always been the stewards of good economies. We cannot focus singularly on the threat abroad and ignore what we have here at home. We need to deal with high unemployment at this intersection. We propose large scale industrial renewal by updating our old mines and railroads. Despite the progress of our last infrastructure bill, the facts remain that most of the railroads in the US are very old. Roads must be begun to be built as well, as automobiles are beginning to file out into the world. An interstate-highway system must be built, and that can provide jobs to workers all over the US. From the smallest, least populated states to the booming metropolises, there is nowhere that will escape the highway system. This great country will be united and easily navigable within a decade. We also will focus on making arms for rebels in the occupied Chinese and Russian territories.

Trade: An alliance is always what Liberals have pushed for. From our first American Alliance to the League of Nations allied force, we have seen that alliances naturally grow good fortune and good graces among those that are allied.

Budget: We have successfully dealt with the nationalization issue. Conservatives keep bringing it up, but the fact is, they want to just denationalize. They don't care if nationalization is good or bad, as long as it fits their talking points. President Ellis attempted to do a bipartisan bill, but Conservatives wouldn't vote for it. Our good graces with them on this issue are over, and we will not be attempting to deal with nationalization in this term. We also point out that their ideas aren't anywhere new, and seem to be content with running the same candidate election after election.

Social Harmony: As they should be. The President emphasizes what she has done to deal with the Russian and Chinese threats, highlighting the forming of the alliance and the tariffs against Russia and China. She states that more is still needed to be done.

Immigration: How we deal with high unemployment is included above. Conservatives love to use immigration as a scare tactic against the hardworking people of America, but in reality, immigration is good and really a non-issue in today's America.

Mood of the people: We emphasize what we have done to make progress in this area.

Party Power: President Langford will enlist Fmr. President Ellis to campaign positively for down-ballot races, particularly in the House. If we can erase a Conservative majority, that is key towards making any headway at all. VP will be sent out to campaign for Senate races.

Popularity of the Incumbent: Naturally, we highlight her popularity.

1952 Election

Welcome to the election of 1952! This election, we see a new face of the Socialist party, though many are confused why he has gone so radical since his time in the Liberal Party (I am from Tennessee I know whom you based it off of haha). However, with a weakened Liberal Party, there may be some gains. Conservative Firebrand Trebuano is running for 'the last time', and the current Liberal President is running for re-election. There is heavy Liberal fatigue, and Langford hasn't really gotten much of a firm following. This election we may see the tides turn.

Primaries

There were so significant primaries.

General Election Round 1

Langford/Francis (Lib) 268 EV 31% PV [All States but the ones below.]

Trebuano/Cruz (Con) 266 EV 52% PV [ME, MA, NY, PA, OH, IL, MI, CA, NM, SC, ND, HI, PR, MN, NJ, FL]

Kefauver/Hoopes (Soc) 31 EV 17% PV [NH, VT, LA (LONG LIVE HUEY LONG, AND NO I DIDN'T DO THIS ON PURPOSE), TN, WY]

Note: Conservatives are surging in the popular vote, however Liberals hold many other States. The socialists yet again split an election.

General Election Round 2

Trebuano/Cruz (Con) 283 EV 54% PV [ME, NH, MA, NY, PA, OH, IL, MI, CA, NM, LA, SC, WY, ND, HI, PR, MN, NJ, FL]

Langford/Francis (Lib) 282 EV 46% PV [All States but the ones above.]

Note: This is the first election since I have been running elections that it literally came down to the HOME STATE MODIFIER.

Kefauver and Hoopes congratulate the President-elect and thank all the people who voted for the Soc Lab Ticket and congressional candidates as the people from the States which the party won who served as electors in the first round, Kefauver was reelected to his Senate seat and will continue to hold the government to account.

OOC: I chose Kefauver as he was an outsider and populist, I mostly chose him due to the outsider aspect of him due to the Soc Lab Party never holding the Presidency or having control of one of the chambers of Congress aside from coalitions.

Economy: The economy is stabilized, and is beginning to grow.

Party Power: Conservatives take a slim majority in Congress.

Events and Decisions for January 1953 - January 1957 for Pres. Trebuano @Reagan04

1) The Rise of the YYY

In California, Oregon, and Washington, there has been a rapid rise of racially-motivated groups. The YYY, the most popular group with millions of members, is actively trying to make Asian immigrant lives hell. While the Conservative Governors have encouraged equality, there are fears this group could become more violent.

2) China Defeats Rebels

China has now defeated their rebels, and seems to be mobilizing for a greater conflict.

3) Russia Invades the Ottomans

Utilizing firebombing and rapid surprise vehicles to quickly cross the Caucuses, Russia caught the Ottomans off guard and has pushed into Asia Minor. Soon, the country will be split between their western and eastern possessions. Ottomans expected an invasion across their Bulgarian border as Romania was weak, but they never expected a serious threat in the mountains. The Ottomans had a pending status in the League of Nations, so they were not officially apart of the alliance. Sweden has still not chosen a side, and Germany and Britain wish for us to meet to figure out what our next plan is.

4) Base Building Progress

The military base in German Denmark has not been completed, and as time progresses there is more fear of complete collapse among the continent of Europe. How much more shall we invest in creating foreign bases?

5) Department of Defense Mobilizes

Fearing Conservatives, the DoD has miraculously began working full functioning again. A new technology called "rockets" has begun to be tested. Shall there be any new technologies the President wishes to push?

6) Pacific Trade at Risk

Piracy has increased tenfold in the Pacific, likely due to the rapid Chinese naval efforts. There is no Governmental piracy, but a good portion of our trade has been hindered by such pirates.

7) Homelessness Skyrockets

After the recession, housing has just never fully recovered. Some estimates predict approximately 3% of Americans are homeless, beating all previous records.

😎 Free

For the first time, our nation has actually kept itself together well enough not to warrant ten events. Just more things that the President can do! To screw things up...

9) Free

Same as above.

10) Free

Anything not included here you wish to implement?

Congressional Majority Opposition @Hestia11

1) Block Measures

As a majority opposition, you have the ability to block specific actions by the President. While I simulate votes and sometimes things change, this block will be much more meaningful than the usual blocking. You gain one of these a year, with a cap of 4. Note that you have these if you are really against something

2) Proposal

As a majority opposition, you can likely propose and pass bills, though likely to be veto'ed. You gain the ability to propose one bill a year, with a cap of 4. Note this if you feel creative one day, or are really hostile against a specific policy.

The first thing I do is get on the line with the Governors in these states. We will be holding a Western Leadership summit at the White House to address the issue, Sec. Reynolds will be working with his former Lieutenant in California, the new Governor, Dick Millard to form an attack plan. The first thing we do is use our large conservative majorities in these states to pass sweeping Hate Crime legislation that makes lynching and other hate-based crime perpetrated on basis of race and sex much more serious crime that carry serious jail time and in the case of a hate-based lynching, the death penalty for the leaders of these malicious incidences. The Federal Law Enforcement Office is hereby ordered to issue Law Enforcement grants to states which follow suit and which tighten their grasp on YYY leaders. Federally, our investigators will focus on outing the leaders of the YYY on the West Coast and bringing them to heel to pay for their crimes. We propose that the YYY be labeled a dangerous "radical terrorist organization" and that its activities be closely monitored. If its leaders are found to be moving across state lines to coordinate these meetings then they will swiftly face federal charges for incitement. We will not stand for racism and bigotry in this nation. We are proud that California has appointed the nation's first Asian-American Attorney General in the Conservative Firebrand Jim Ho and we expect General Ho to enforce these laws with great scrutiny. I will make my own personal address and appearance making an concerted appeal to the region and the nation to reject racism and stand for racial equality and call for equality as Children of God.

2) China Defeats Rebels

China has now defeated their rebels, and seems to be mobilizing for a greater conflict.

This can mean only one thing, China will be launching attacks into Southeast Asia and Japan. The United States is going to have to step up to the challenge in this part of the world. We are going to need to work with our Japanese, Indonesian, and Australian allies in order to stop the Naval domination of China. Therefore, I will call the aforementioned nation's into an Alliance to be named "The Pacific Four" (depending on how many entries we get, but we want to get at least those 3) which will be associated with the G8 and therefore the League of Nations but will not be an official branch of the aforementioned organizations. Other nation's with Pacific Coasts like Canada and Mexico will be encouraged to join and to lend Naval supplies to the fight against China. This alliance will work with greater trade ties and will patrol the Pacific Ocean for Chinese aggression and other Anti-Freedom and Anti-League forces.

Inviting the nations of Germany, France, Great Britain, Mexico, Austria, Sweden, Spain, with Honorary Membership offered to Canada and Japan, we propose this Global super-alliance in the defense of Freedom and against Chinese and Russian Aggression around the world. We have seen how Russia and China treat other nations as their playthings, the G8 are all officially invited to D.C. to have our first meeting in the White House. We understand Sweden remains undecided, we therefore offer trading ties and hefty language about how Russia would rather see Europe under their own boots then ever even consider allowing another great power to survive and threaten there dominance. With Swedish backing, the G8 will reach extreme heights regarding combating of Russia. We'd even be interested in hosting the Prime Minister of Sweden early in order to schmooze them into staying for the First G8 conference. Once the nation's get here, we ask them for their thoughts on strategic plans, we expect the United Kingdom and Germany to lead the discussion in terms of Russian influence. After that is devised, we shall turn to China. (I assume this event will turn into a big negotiation at this conference, which is why I'm not putting out any detailed strategy yet, because in my roleplay mind, the conference has not started yet, so I will do that then).

Now that we have whipped the DoD into shape, we expect this to pick back up again. We would like to double down on this base, we also offer support for Sweden against possible invasion routes in Russian Finland. We want to shore up support along the Austrian and Romanian borders as well with Russia. The G8 needs to function together as a defense collective in order to knock the Russian bear from their position at the top. I will therefore make foreign bases a top priority of mine. We'd also like to invest in some with the Pacific Four (Six?) if that is at all possible in order to knock off China.

We are glad to hear of this, the new Secretary of Defense, Lt. Gen. Conrad LeDay (Ret.) is a famed Conservative Bulldog General from World War I back 30 years ago. He demands efficiency and runs an immaculate ship, if tough at times, he sure as hell commands respect and we are proud to have him on the team. Two things we'd like the department to begin working on would be the possible attachment of nuclear bomb warheads to these "rockets" as well as the introduction of Jet plane technology onto American bombers. These seem to be the next major steps in updating our armed forces. We also want large Battleships to be available to us. Perhaps a continuation of the idea of an underwater, stealth ship?

We will reintroduce the Housing Act which I wrote all the way back in 1935 that predicted Housing Crises like these to arise in the future. This act, the Stable and Accessible Housing Act of 1953 (SAHA) was ignored and killed by the Liberals and Socialists who refused to allow Free Market deregulation to save our Housing Market. This bill will bolster the Housing Market by temporarily cutting taxes on its companies, deregulating its resource providers, and providing tax breaks to companies which will be serving those that are homeless. We seek to deregulate the materials needed for housing for a temporary period of time as well as make construction permits easier. We need to focus on the creation of small family homes in order to girder the American Dream for all Americans.

The first thing I'd like to do is propose a unifying measure that will boost national morale. The National America Values Act of 1953 (NAVA) is proposed to make the official motto of the United States "In God We Trust" and to add the words "One Nation, Under God" into the Pledge of Alleigance. It will also call for a Congressional Chaplain and support the erection of the 10 Commandments in Courthouses and government buildings across the nation. Our new motto as well as the Commandments are to be etched into the wall behind the Chair of the Speaker in the Joint Session Chamber of Congress. We know the vast majority of Americans support this reform as a reminder that we are fighting evil in this world, an evil which rejects God and subjugates his children, we are the Shining City on a Hill, a City of God, which seeks to combat and destroy that evil from this planet. Right before the bill is voted upon, I wish to address the nation with this message, reminding the American people that we are a people of God and that we will always endure whatever comes our way if we keep in this tradition and name. We must restore national morale, and I think a President communicating with her people on shared values is a perfect way to do it.

Now that we have the White House, and that economic Libertarians have a convincing majority in Congress. We for the umpteenth and hopefully final time, propose the Economic Freedom Act of 1954 (EFA), which would once and for all denationalize the shipping industry. We are fighting large government tyrannies across the globe, we cannot allow ourselves to keep in their policies any longer. This new jolt of life into our economy should be a boon for the new trade deals which I wish to cut with all of our new allies as well as a newly emboldened Domestic Economy. This is a major piece of jump-starting our economy into the raging inferno it must be to put us on top.

And finally, I would like to push forward a moderately conservative immigration bill named the Immigration Reform Act of 1954 (IRA) which would slightly tighten quotas on immigration and focus on most immigrants coming from our European Allies in order to better ties. We'll be making the test more rigorous to encourage trained workers since untrained American workers struggle to find jobs. There will be no other litmus tests, only a temporary and moderate measure meant to enforce a policy that is proven to work in times of economic lulls. This should expire once the economy is back on its feet and we can afford to begin to take all the immigrants we can back in.

All three States of the West Coast have now passed Hate Crime legislation. Washington's is the weakest, however, simply making hate crimes misdemeanors unless injury is caused. It seems like the grants have been abused by corrupt law departments, as leaks have shown that most of the grant money just seems to disappear. Bad YYY henchmen have been arrested, but the leaders always avoid the law and can not be pinned to anything. The terrorist organization label ends up meaning nothing, as no one really takes it seriously. The President's address garnered poor attendance. Overall, it seems people are hesitant about supporting equality due to the Chinese enemy overseas. The President's and State responses have been deemed poor by national polling.

All nations accept the invitation to DC to found the G8, though Sweden is still hesitant if it will go through with it or not. After much failure, the President finally gets a break as the people are in love with how he has centralized and expanded on a core alliance. Japan and Canada decided not to join. The nations are now in D.C. awaiting alliance creation and plans.

Nuclear bombs are not a thing, neither is jet technology. However, much progress is made towards the ideal image of both these devices. However, all other technological innovations hit disastrous delays.

The Act passes the House, and the Senate, and is signed. However, instead of increasing morale, it just led to a controversial news story defaming the President for being too authoritative.

After many years of fighting, the shipping industry is finally denationalized.

The Act passes the House, and the Senate, and is signed. The People are happy with the President's decision.

In other news...

Russia has officially occupied the eastern half of the Ottomans, making Persia surrounded by the Russians and Chinese. Ottomans have slowed the Russian push west, though Russia also invaded and annexed Romania amazingly fast, and has begun to assault Ottoman forces in the West as well. Romania was a part of the League of Nations, though Europe seems hesitant to react with war. This should be discussed at the G8 conference.

China has now invaded Persia, and Russia has joined in from the other side and Persia is basically split between the two powers.

Liberal leaders slam the proposal to have the 10 commandments in every government building. Have the Conservatives even seen the 1st amendment? Fmr. President Ellis delivers a speech from the Governor's Mansion in Montana, pledging to lead the charge against the bill at the state level. Liberal governors are already taking stances in their own states.

Liberal leaders rally against the immigration bill, calling it discriminatory to those that aren't from Europe. Either make it a universal law, which we would support, or don't make it at all.  We would like an actual date that it expires, not just an eventual pledge, as it rings hollow to Liberals.

The Liberal Senate Leader asks for the President to take a strong stance on an invasion of Romania. We cannot let the Russians get to the gates of Berlin before we decide to act. Small nations should be protected just as fervently as we would protect our own.

@Hestia11 Since I'm considering creating a character, what are the differences from OTL in this timeline (and what positions had the Overton Window been shifted around on)? You seem experienced so I might ask you. If it's too much to summarize it's OK.

I'd say that in general, it's fit closer to modern day than you'd think. Both the Liberals and Conservatives are close to the center on most issues.

Social issues are to the left of normal, with both agreeing broadly on anti-discrimination legislation. Though this was much more apparent in the 1840s-1890s.

Military I'd say has shifted to the right of center, with Liberals taking hawkish stances as well as the Conservatives.

Economy is a fairly divided issue, but not an altogether divisive one.

Foreign politics is much different. Monarchies are largely still in existence in Europe, and WW2 was largely skirted because WW1 and other events went differently than in our timeline. If you make a little mistake, it won't be that big a deal, we'll help you get on track.

Currently there are 3 major parties, the Conservatives, Liberals, and Socialists. Socialists are largely kept to congressional races, but they've been close before to making it into round 2. There is 1 minor party in the Libertarians, who has not really broken through yet.

My best advice would be to read the past like 6-10 pages to get a good feel of how history has been altered. It's not that bad a read as you'd think :)

Hope that helped!

We encourage President Ellis to read the law before she speaks on it as she obviously hasn't as no where in the bill does it require all government buildings to do anything. It only requires changes of the Capitol Building.

Furthermore, all states are free to do whatever they want, if the Liberals wish to ignore the cultural desires of the people, that is entirely their right to do so. We leave this issue alone as we know that the people support God and America's place as a Christian Nation.

The Alliance will be chaired in D.C. with meetings around the world in other capitals. The United States will be the primary leader as the largest power and will lead discussion while the other 7 nations will of course provide their own input on the strategy to combat Russia and China. We propose that an "iron curtain" descend like a defense line along the Euro-Russian barrier. Major support will go to Romania, Austria, and Germany. We want to focus on lining this border with bases and defensive fortifications. We also want to collaborate on military technology which the powers absolutely need to share. Japan, Australia, and Indonesia will do much the same navally for the Chinese. This grand and Global alliance is hereby commissioned and the US is interested in what the delegates want. We obviously want a trade deal, particularly arms deals between our nations perhaps with special conditions for Sweden in order to sweeten the pot. At this point, we have let Russia and China expand for too long, the next move they make is when we must move in.

The USA drafts a resolution that should any League of Nations member be attacked by Russia or China, the G8 will respond in kind by declaring war on one of the two powers. It is now or never folks and we have to stand up for our allies or else there will be no one left. Romania was the last straw here, it doesn't look like Russia is stopping, it's time to mobilize and be ready for their next move. The American delegation stresses this to the G8, it's time to make our move.
