Sen. Dodge speaks

Privately Dodge is miffed that neither he nor his VP nominee won their own states. However, he accepts the results. Dodge, who has centralized power in his party within the last four years, aims to support the Liberals on Domestic Policy, so long as it does not too greatly expand Federal Power, since he prefers to have such policies come from the state level. He promotes a strictly isolationist platform for America. And a pro-farmer and pro-labor policy domestically, while simultaneously opposing a strong Federal government. He supports small businesses over corporations, which he sees as dangerous. Economically, his party will endorse fiat currency over a gold standard or bimetalism. He supports a high tariff to grow American industry until America is a top 2 nation. He opposed the Liberal Party's overreach of power, and opposes the Conservative Party's anti-labor and opposition to spending on things like infrastructure. Militarily, Dodge believes that the military should be reduces to defense purposes only.

[Dodge's American Progress Party is somewhat a merge of the western-endorsed Populist Party and La Follette's Wyoming Idea progressivism, both which opposed big government, the latter opposing the Bull Moose nationalistic, big government progressivism. These were historical Western views from 1870s-1930s until FDR's federal expansion and Westward migration changed the voting demographic.]

State of the Union after the Election of 1908

----------------------------------------------------------------------

National Strength: We rank 6th in the list of the top 10 countries: Russia, Great Britain, Germany,  Japan, Mexico, United States, Italy, France, Austria, Canada. The latter country has just been given independence from Great Britain. Our economy is improving, so we are likely to shoot up this list.

Military Strength: Our professional army is 60,000 men and 58 ships, with a reserve army of 120,000 men solely for defense. We have naval bases in Hawaii, Cuba, and Panama. We are currently occupying French Polynesia.

Foreign Affairs: We are currently heavily arming pro-monarchist forces in France. The communists have gained ground, but likely only due to armed ex-Republicans joining them. This will most likely switch once our arms shipments get circulated.

Military: Our military is semi-active. Our navy patrols our naval bases, and a small portion of our navy and army are occupying French Polynesia.

Economy: The economy is continuing in a state of growth, however no economist can pin to exactly what is growing the economy. Some say the tariffs, had, but others say that the economy was growing before the tariffs were implemented, likely due to the stable bimetalism currency.

Trade: Our trade is falling among third world nations, however Britain and Germany have recently been buying many shipments of Arms from American manufacturers, as well as Automobiles.

Budget: Our budget is slightly increasing because of tariff revenue and canal revenue.

Social Harmony: The country is in a small state of unity, however socialist and labor wage workers are angry, however this only impacts 6% of wage workers.

Immigration: We have reached an enormous immigration boom, especially many Republican French immigrants.

Mood of the people: The mood of the people is satisfied.

Party Power: Conservatives have the speaker of the house, while Progress has the senate leadership, according to their deal. Progress has grown ballot support, while Liberals are getting weaker.

Events and Decisions for March 1909 - March 1913 for Pres. Rodgers @Reagan04

1) Automobile Laws

After Denny Gord's talks with the previous administration, plans were set out for roadbuilding. Recently, Gord released an affordable vehicle which even the working class can somewhat afford. Liberal lawmakers are pushing for road safety legislation, while Conservative and Progress lawmakers are pushing to make it so the States must have road safety legislation.

2) European Tensions

Germany has recently announced that if French Monarchists do not win by the end of 1912, then they would invade and help out. Britain announced they would help Germany, while Italy announced they would help French Communists. This is surely an interesting development.

3) Prohibitionists are Back

For years, prohibitionists were satisfied with the Barker administration's anti-alcohol laws. However, there has been a recent rise in prohibition again after it was reported that 2,908 homicide deaths in homes in New Jersey were attributed to influence under alcohol. They are pushing for a law to ban alcohol near children.

4) Great Illinois Fire Riot Investigation

The investigation has concluded, and the attack can be directly attributed to the Illinois Fascist League, a group of anarchists dedicated to create enough chaos where they can take over by force.

5) The Question of the Above-Ground Railroad Industry

As automobiles have risen, trains for consumer transportation are at risk of losing substantial traffic. As this is one of the last two nationalized industries, the other being international shipping, a portion of the Government's budget comes from this profit.

6) Volcano Eruption

Recently, a volcano near our Naval Base in Hawaii has erupted. While there has been no damage to the base, our ships have been sent on a patrolling mission just in case there is damage. The people on the island have been hurt by this eruption immensely, losing 30% of their homes. Should the Federal Government intervene? Since Hawaii is a territory, there isn't really a budget over there.

7) French Coup Progress

The Pro-Monarchist faction has destroyed most of the communist resistance, leaving three strongholds in France and the various other small groups in their Pacific colonies. They ask that we help them take over the rest of the pacific colonies in exchange for the North American Island of Saint Pierre and Miquelon, which would be a useful military/naval base. They say its urgent so that Europe doesn't escalate into a major war.

😎 Budget Balancing

Thanks to the completion of the canal, ending of the farmer debt repayment in 1909, and the rise in tariffs, our budget is pretty much stable, consisting of the income of 25% taxes 30% tariff 25% overseas territories/canals and 20% nationalized industries, and the expenditure of 45% military 10% gov. upkeep 20% infrastructure and 25% debt repayment. Debts should be paid by the year 1917 at this rate.

9) Mexico

Mexico has currently enveloped into a civil war, consisting of five sides. The communists, the monarchists, the republicans, the fascists, and the reactionaries. The monarchists, republicans, and reactionaries have reached out for support.

10) Free

As the Conservatives have not been in office for a while, is there any other policies you wish to implement?

We are jubilant to hear of this news! I have long said that it will be automobiles that pave the future of American Industry. Here's what need to do, we need to let the businesses take the wheel (pun intended) on this one, something new, instead of knee-jerk overregulation and nationalization as we have done with nascent industries in the past. My plan is to stand firm with Congressional Conservatives and Progressives in handing these powers over to the states to regulate their own state roads. We'd like to see private roadbuilding and an automobile boom that can carry the nation into an economically prosperous future.

We promised an aggressive and strong America, and we are planning to deliver that to the people and the best way to show American Global Leadership at the current interval is in France. This administration has made clear it's hardline against radical fascist, communist, and socialist forces and we plan to uphold that. We are very much interested in taking up the Pro-Monarchist's offer. We are wondering what else there is in France, if there is one more island that is useful for a naval base that we could possibly ask for, the Monarchists are not exactly in a position to turn down an offer for giant military support for the cost of one more island that we'd like to turn into a base. So I ask my advisers what other colonies are held and which are the most strategic and profitable. Perhaps New Caledonia could be bargained for. We should like to hold a summit in Philadelphia to invite the leaders of Britain and Germany to discuss strategy regarding France. We want stronger relations with our capitalist brothers in Europe and we want a united front against France. We'd like these leaders to come to the table to see if we cannot take fullscale war off the table and rather more assistance and aid coupled with increasing pressure against the Communists to win the French Civil War.

While I myself am not a Prohibitionist, I am a Conservative and I do believe in good Christian morals. I shall, therefore, support a bill that mandates that alcohol may not be consumed, sold, or made within 2,500 feet of a school and its distributors may not be established legally within that same radius. We shall also give Law and Order grants to states that pass laws increasing sentences on abusive fathers and mothers of either each other or their children. We should also like to set the Drinking Age to 25, we cannot do this federally of course, but once again, these Law and Order grants shall be given to states who comply. Alcohol is also not to be allowed within the general vicinity of Federal Landmarks so that all may enjoy. These proposals should be wrapped up into the Public Sobriety and Safety Act of 1909 and proposed to Congress with the backing of the Conservatives.

Groups advocating, Socialism, Fascism, Anarchy, and Communism are one in the same vein and should not be tolerated. To stem their growth, we will be implementing Pro-Capitalist, Pro-Christian, and Pro-Republican messages in school curriculums and start every school day with the Pledge of Allegiance and allow schools to include Student led Prayer to fight these blights. Schools should be teaching messages of the greatness of the American Capitalist way and the founding of our freedoms, rights, and liberties. Especially emphasize Capitalism and the Bill of Rights. We shall also implement an Extremism Test for immigrants coming in, turning radicals away. These programs will hopefully stem the rising tides of both extremism, and immorality in our Society. We'd like this legislation to be known as the Defending American Values and Preventing Radical Ideas Act of 1909 or DAVAPRIA. Hopefully supporters of the PSSA will link over into supporting DAVAPRIA as the two go hand in hand.

While we are a giant supporter of automobiles, we support competition more and these two sectors competing in the Free Market can serve to further technological progress and options for the consumer far better than a nationalized sector ever could.

Seeing as this is our responsibility, we have no choice but to assist in whatever manner we can, hopefully this can jumpstart the Hawaiin economy by providing for a Housing market there. We would like to assure that these American citizens feel like Americans. We want to rush to improve Hawaii as quickly as possible to advance them on their way to statehood. Promise the Territorial Governor our cooperation in this trying time and we will be more than willing to provide what we can within reason.

First, we want to cut off Italy from the canal, even if it does not affect them, we should send the message loud and clear we do not tolerate those abhorrent ideas of Godless Big Government. We'd like to see a strong tariff imposed but at our hopeful Philadelphia summit tie ourselves closer to Britain and Germany and see what they have to offer. We'd like to make slashes in infrastructure as we turn to private partners to conduct those operations or state governments if they so choose. These cuts in infrastructure should help keep the proposals we have put up thus far budget neutral, I would like to leave office in my second term with a debtless nation standing atop the world.

While France may be our biggest concern, another place to showcase American influence certainly is Mexico. We will begin by offering aid to the republicans and monarchists, we fear that the reactionaries are too similar to the fascists to have our backing. We will remain neutral between the monarchists and republicans and would like to see their leaders call a semi-truce on each other as they focus eliminating the communist and fascist threats first to install a government of mainstream ideals that respects the will of the people, not a large government tyranny.

10) Free

As the Conservatives have not been in office for a while, is there any other policies you wish to implement?

First, we wish to enact a Literacy Test that will cover admitting skilled immigrants into the nation.

Next, we should wish to include railroad denationalization into the Denationalization Act of 1909 which will denationalize all industries, including shipping and leave the nation entirely within the realm of the Free Market.

Finally, and most importantly. We have a matter that has been on the agenda of our party and the American people since 1884, the Right to Business Amendment. This will ensure the right of the American people to engage in private commerce and will stip the government of nationalization authority. Our slogan this administration is, "The Business of the American People is Business!"

And as a final aside, we shall issue an order to the Crimefighting apparatus installed by President Carpenter to assist in fighting radicals that attempt to sow disorder and overthrow governments and businesses. Chicago shall not happen again and we shall restore Law and Order!

Overall, the Rodgers administration hopes to be known as the Conservative Administration of Law and Order that defended American Values, Morality, and Security which asserted American dominance on the global stage and opened up the Free Market to an economic boom.

The Labor section of the new Socialist Party (placeholder name for the merger of the Socialist and Labor Parties) will vehemently oppose all four proposals being put forward especially DAVAPRIA as it seems to be unconstitutional.

Sen. Dodge urges his party to vote against all of these measures, except for the prohibition law, which I endorse since my constituents do. However, I would support a Denationalization Act, as long as regulations exist that prevent monopolies in the railroad industry, so that competition exists. That is, any company bordering on a monopoly must be broken up.

Liberals blast the bill against Socialism as an attack on the party of the same name. It is outrageous that Conservatives would use that against a party to try and outright ban it. We vote against all but the prohibition. Liberals don’t agree with Socialists on a lot, but to try and silence them isn’t right.

We'd like these leaders to come to the table to see if we cannot take fullscale war off the table and rather more assistance and aid coupled with increasing pressure against the Communists to win the French Civil War."

The Monarchists take a stand against giving up more territory, citing that the U.S. already has gained enough, and that they have the arms needed to win the civil war.

British and German diplomats are in Philadelphia upon the request of the President. You tell them that you are against full-scale war, but the monarchists will continue to get American support so that they will win; they already seem to be about to win, regardless. Germany is just fine with this offer, but Britain is upset that we are interfering with their dominance strategy. However, as Germany has clearly backed out of an invasion, there won't be a threat of an invasion on France. In the end, German relation shave improved, while British have been hurt.

3. "While I myself am not a Prohibitionist, I am a Conservative and I do believe in good Christian morals. These proposals should be wrapped up into the Public Sobriety and Safety Act of 1909 and proposed to Congress with the backing of the Conservatives."

While some Prohibition leaders argue this is not enough, a great majority of prohibition supporters approve of this step and see no need to expand further at this time. The bill passes Congress with a strong supermajority, and as it is un-amended I will assume you have signed it. This measure makes your popularity go up.

4. "Groups advocating, Socialism, Fascism, Anarchy, and Communism are one in the same vein and should not be tolerated. Hopefully supporters of the PSSA will link over into supporting DAVAPRIA as the two go hand in hand."

An amended bill needs Conservative support to pass; enough moderates from the Progress and Liberals have approved of this amended bill.

1: The Pledge of Allegiance shall become mandatory for schools.

Damn, that is literally all that the odds let the moderates amend. Big oof.

5. "Now is the time we can curb the government excesses of the past 40 years, we stand firm in our committment to denationalizing the railroads. We'd like to see new competition be released back into the Free Market. We'd also like to explore the possibilities of private below-ground railroad ventures to shore this industry up. While we are a giant supporter of automobiles, we support competition more and these two sectors competing in the Free Market can serve to further technological progress and options for the consumer far better than a nationalized sector ever could."

Businesses are pleased that you support the free market.

6. "Seeing as this is our responsibility, we have no choice but to assist in whatever manner we can, hopefully this can jumpstart the Hawaiin economy by providing for a Housing market there. We would like to assure that these American citizens feel like Americans. We want to rush to improve Hawaii as quickly as possible to advance them on their way to statehood. Promise the Territorial Governor our cooperation in this trying time and we will be more than willing to provide what we can within reason."

I am going to force implement through Congress a similar type emergency relief bill that lets the President allocate emergency funds to disasters.

Your efforts in Hawaii are appreciated, but sadly a second eruption occurred and has destroyed an additional 25% of homes resulting in a 55% loss. You need more funds from Congress to fully carry out your mission.

8. "First, we want to cut off Italy from the canal, even if it does not affect them, we should send the message loud and clear we do not tolerate those abhorrent ideas of Godless Big Government. We'd like to see a strong tariff imposed but at our hopeful Philadelphia summit tie ourselves closer to Britain and Germany and see what they have to offer. We'd like to make slashes in infrastructure as we turn to private partners to conduct those operations or state governments if they so choose. These cuts in infrastructure should help keep the proposals we have put up thus far budget neutral, I would like to leave office in my second term with a debtless nation standing atop the world."

Italy is cut off from the canal, with no adverse effects.

As British relations have tarnished, they have raised the tariff on U.S. goods. However, Germany absolutely loves us, and is willing to lower their tariff on our goods if we raise ours on Britain.

The only infrastructure right now that would likely be cut is our maintenance of the railroads, which is about 25% of our infrastructure budget. If the denationalization act passes, than an additional 5% of the budget is available. However, the nationalized railroad industry is 8% of our income, meaning we will be at a loss for now.

9. "While France may be our biggest concern, another place to showcase American influence certainly is Mexico. We will begin by offering aid to the republicans and monarchists, we fear that the reactionaries are too similar to the fascists to have our backing. We will remain neutral between the monarchists and republicans and would like to see their leaders call a semi-truce on each other as they focus eliminating the communist and fascist threats first to install a government of mainstream ideals that respects the will of the people, not a large government tyranny."

This aid will only be easily available if we cut into our debt repayment. A new budget analysis will be complete once all budget-related items are compelte.

Thanks to your leadership, the Monarchists and Republicans have bonded forces for the time being. However, the reactionaries and fascists much to your worry have now bonded forces. The current stance of the Mexican Civil War is 32% R/M 44% RCT/F and 24% C.

10. "First, we wish to enact a Literacy Test that will cover admitting skilled immigrants into the nation.

Overall, the Rodgers administration hopes to be known as the Conservative Administration of Law and Order that defended American Values, Morality, and Security which asserted American dominance on the global stage and opened up the Free Market to an economic boom."

Literacy test fails outright. All the focus was on the extremist test, which made the literacy test distasteful to moderates.

An Amended Denationalization Act reaches your desk, which former Progress supporters of Barker supported, which denationalizes the railroad as long as all railroad track sizes aboveground are to be legally mandated as the same to avoid mis-shaped infrastructure and avoid many dollars of costs.

The Right to Business Amendment has been held on the docket until after midterms, which Presidential action to push it forward will be needed.

Your crimefighting strategy has reached an average quality, and average efficiency. No worries here.

Midterms

Conservatives 45% Senate 38% US Rep

Progress 20% Senate 21% US Rep

Liberal 35% Senate 33% US Rep

Socialists 0% Senate  8% US Rep

French Civil War Status

The monarchists have lowered the communist strongholds to two areas. Victory seems within reach in 2 years time.

I second this (the name, the merger has already happened of course).

It was worth a shot, we will continue on with the invasion of the two agreed upon islands forthwith. We are either way excited to have two new bases, this certainly bodes well for the hawkish members of the nation who favor a strong foreign policy.

I proudly sign the Public Saftey and Sobriety Act of 1909 and champion as a victory for the moral and good elements of our society.

We shall sign this law, to be known as the Educational Patriotism Act of 1910 and shall certainly be back after midterms and re-election with stronger majorities in order to push through the anti-extremist and anti-radical measures that help our kids grow in a safe and Pro-American environment. This will only reflect poorly on the parties which have obstructed these broadly popular measures.

Then we ask Congress for the funds. We shall set up a Territorial Relief Service, the TRS, which will handle all disasters and damages inflicted on Federal lands, State Governments will still be expected to take care of their own disasters and this is strictly to be a Federal Responsibility and not take away the responsibilities of the states. The TRS is to conduct relief missions and hopefully allow the people to rebuild and open up markets for competition, perhaps an agricultural boom to speed development.

Well then, we shall only raise our rate to the rate which Britain has raised theirs upon us. Not a fraction of a percent more. We make it clear that this is only in the name of fairness. We should enjoy the lowering of the German tariff as well. That being said, our nation has never seemed to have warm relations with Britain, and yet they are our closest cultural cousin in the world, perhaps barring Canada, we should continue to reach out to them for partnerships, but it should be clear, we are not going to sacrifice American interests for a foreign power, we will continue to support the rebels in France and help the British and Germans rebuild France into a Capitalist society.

We shall sign the denationalization act which cuts into our expenditures. We assume that the Shipping clause was not amended out and hail and the beginning of a new era free of any government run industries.

We will once again tout the bonding of Monarchists and Republicans under American support as strength under the Rodgers Administration.

Assuming the extremism test passes, we shall proudly sign into law the Immigration Values Act of 1911, once again pointing to our strong stance on radicals that we are not going to play around with those seeking to destabilize the government.

Once again, we bring up this Amendment as a rallying cry to our base, it guarantees the right of a private citizen to engage in private commerce free from federal intervention barring some sober regulation in extenuating circumstances, making nationalization a thing of the past and making regulations a state issue as well as keeping the Federal Government accountable to what kinds of regulations it passes.

Once again, we introduce Student-Led School Prayer, Anti-Radical, including Socialist, Anarchist, Communist, and Fascist ideologies, curricula measures, as well as Pro-American Values, those of Capitalism, Judeo-Christian Faith, and Constitutional Rights to be sprinkled into the classroom setting as each individual state and school sees fit. Hopefully, this Congress can find something to pass. This act shall be christened the Educational Values Act of 1912. If it fails, we can try again next year after the election, but we are set on passing these measures to defend our children, the future of the nation.

Somehow, the government didn’t want education nationalized but they want to tell them what to teach. Liberals line up against the measures, saying that being anti communist and anti fascist is one thing, but to indoctrinate children against an existing political party is inexcusable. It is the job of our teachers to teach our kids unbiased history and facts, not distorted politics and opinions.

The Labor section of the Socialist or Socialist Labour Party will vote against all these measures if they come to the House or Reps in any form.

The Labor section of the Socialist or Socialist Labor Party completely agrees with the statements made here, also again the proposed legislation is unconstitutional as it endorses the teaching of the Christian faith when the first amendment to the constitution states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof".

We offered important guidelines and are willing to settle for grants for the private schools that do teach these values, as we understand your consternation on the possible Constitutionality of such issues and are willing to instead implement a grant system to encourage the teaching of those values.

Secondly, the Communists and Fascists have banded together in political parties, and despite not holding any office, they exist in the political realm. But just like Socialism, they oppose American Values and must be stopped lest our great nation perish. We are anti-radical and it is a shame that Liberals refuse to stand against the elements of our society that wish to tear down America. Unbiased history and fact stand firmly against Socialism, Communism, Anarchism, and Fascism, so why won't the Liberals?

Even with the midterms, all that passed was the prohibition, national anthem, and railroad denationalizing laws. The ocean shipping industry is still nationalized. The Hawaiian funds have been secured. No literacy/extremist tests have passed.

State of the Union for Election of 1912

----------------------------------------------------------------------

National Strength: We rank 4th in the list of the top 10 countries: Russia, Great Britain, Germany,  United States, Japan, Mexico, Italy, France, Austria, Mexico, Canada. Mexican coups, along with a growing economy, have led to our rise.

Military Strength: Our professional army is 60,000 men and 58 ships, with a reserve army of 120,000 men solely for defense. We have naval bases in Hawaii, Cuba, and Panama. We are currently occupying French Polynesia and St Pierre and Miquelon.

Foreign Affairs: We are currently heavily arming pro-monarchist forces in France, and supporting the Republican/Monarchist faction in the Mexican coup. The French communist's strongholds in France have finally fallen, and all that exist now are small groups in rural towns in and outside of France, and on the remaining French colonial possessions. The current stance of the Mexican Civil War is 40% R/M 41% RCT/F and 19% C.

Military: Our military is semi-active. Our navy patrols our naval bases, and a small portion of our navy and army are occupying French Polynesia and St. Pierre and Miquelon.

Economy: The economy is continuing in a state of growth, and has finally caught up to the top 3 European powers due to this.

Trade: Our trade is stagnant among third world nations, and surprisingly our private industries have maintained trade with Britain regardless of tariffs, and German trade is about the same. Trade with non-radical European countries has slightly improved.

Budget: Our budget is currently balanced, with a solid 15% of our spending going to paying off our debt, aimed to be paid off by 1924. Our budget consists of the income of 27% taxes 34% tariff 27% overseas territories/canals and 12% nationalized industries, and the expenditure of 45% military 10% gov. upkeep 15% infrastructure 15% disaster aid and 15% debt repayment.

Social Harmony: The country is basically united, as multiple successes have cast a shadow over the country's problems.

Immigration: Our immigration has slowed down, but is still at a level that puts us as the number one country accepting immigrants.

Mood of the people: The mood of the people is greatly satisfied.

Party Power: Conservatives are on an upwards trend, while polls project that the other parties will take small losses.

Popularity of the Incumbent: The president is greatly popular, and re-election should be guaranteed at this point.
