FPTP does have may flaws, but at least, unlike PR, MMP, STV, and some other electoral systems, political parties, while they do tend to form, are not an institutionalized absolute essential for all candidates and the parties don't own the seats, being free to remove members who dissent from the party line due to conscience or some other reason, but in FPTP, be it in the Westminster system or the U.S. Congressional/State Legislative system, the seat belongs to the elected member, and, by proxy, their constituents, and, if the elected member breaks with party ranks, they have to answer to their constituents in the next election for it, not be ejected by their party before that election. It's FPTP sole real redeeming feature, but in my mind it is still a powerful one.
