2020 Issue Help: Net Neutrality

Recommended Posts

Far-Left: We should expand Net Neutrality laws and ban/censor hate speech, maliciously false information, and divisive sites.

Left: Obama-era Net Neutrality Laws did not go far enough! We must greatly expand the rules!

Center-Left: We should not only defend Obama-era Net Neutrality Laws, but consider others.

Center: We should defend the Obama-era Net Neutrality Laws

Center-Right: We should abolish Net Neutrality Laws completely, allowing some Americans to pay for superior services.

Right: We should mostly abolish Net Neutrality Laws, but we should allow banning/censoring un-patriotic and immortal material.

Far-Right: Any laws regulating the internet is an overreach of government power!

Far left - We must defend an expand net neutrality rules!

Left - We must defend current net neutrality rules before considering new ones.

Center-Left: We need to defend the Net neutrality rules we have now!

@vcczar

@vcczar I've always seen in this issue that Centre, strangely, would be the absolutely uncensored and unregulated Internet, and that to the left there'd be growing regulations about flagging "divisive," "maliciously false," "hate speech," etc. material, while further to the right it would further flag "obscene," and then just "immoral" and "unpatriotic" material. That's how I'd do it myself.

There's no stance there that pure Libertarian or Pirate Party types (or related viewpoints) would support.

What stance would that be, and where would it be positioned?

It would be a stance that regulating or censoring the Internet or any activity thereon was inherently, in and of itself, an overreach of government power. I believe, in fact, both Captain of the Pirate Party (USA) Brittany Phelps and 2016 Libertarian Party Primaries hopeful John McAfee both effectively said law enforcement should be able to back up any criminal conviction with evidence does not invade Internet privacy, even if the initial tip-off to the crime came from the Internet.

Ok, how does it look now?

@vcczar why is center right completely banning and right mostly

center-right isn't banning. It's abolishing net neutrality. Right is banning only immoral or unpatriotic things, but otherwise abolishing net neutrality. Far-right is the Libertarian positions.

Because social-conservatives are likely to want to censor Internet traffic and material too, just in different areas ("immoral," "obscene," and "unpatriotic," in their case).
