Please fix.5a0889baaa79f_ScreenShot2017-11-13at1_08_42AM.thumb.png.21782d859d27dff0dfd53a4753802abb.png

Ironic, given that the 1960 election was rigged in favor of JFK in Texas.

Really? I heard that it was rigged in Chicago by Richard Daley (which i could believe) but i never heard of vote rigging in Texas (at least for Kennedy in '60 i heard LBJ won his first senate race that way).

Maybe. And im not saying this because im biased against Democrats. Reagan and the Republicans negotiated to release the prisoners after Reagan was inaugurated to give him an approval boost.

All U.S. elections for decades now have obviously been rigged. There's no way it's realistic that only two parties win every significant elected office with such reliability and such huge electoral margins over any other parties and any non-partisans. Having seen electoral results from almost every other First World election in that period (except maybe Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore), there's no way those results are purely genuine. Something must be up. Maybe a "Turno Pacifico" or a "Voto Contado" is secretly afoot. :S

Duverger's Law? On top of that, we have other measures discouraging third-parties (60-vote filibuster in the Senate, 12th amendment/requiring a majority of electors, campaign finance/FEC laws requiring with high thresholds).

I do think that once a Senate Majority Leader decides to use the nuclear option on legislation, it'll open the floodgates for more independents in the Senate (Senators are more moderate than people in the House, and have their own brands).

Why would he need an approval boost on inauguration day?

Why not?

Inauguration day is typically when presidents have their highest approval.  After that they start doing things that piss people off and their numbers go down.

In any event, most of the documents surrounding the Algiers Accords have been declassified and it is clear to anyone who bothers to read them that the Reagan campaign had nothing to do with the hostages being released.
