October 1st 1987

President Reagan was watching the evening news. He watched as candidates all announced bids to replace him in 15 months. He began to think to himself, who had his support? There was Pat Robertson, the evangelical pastor who had close ties to people that had helped Reagan win the entire south, a former Democratic stronghold. Then there was Bob Dole, who had experience in the senate so he had a steady relationship with the Republican leadership. There was Harold Stassen, who even back when he was a Democrat, Reagan could see himself voting for. What of his own Vice President? Reagan did not have much of a liking to Bush at first, but he had been a loyal ally the past seven years, even during Iran Contra...

Dukakis to Democrats: "time for a change" says let the voters decide who is the best candidate to win the 1988 election.

Michael Dukakis: "...the Democratic party must look into the future. We should work together not divide ourselves through this primary and caucus season. I know we have several candidates running and we should hear their ideas and let the voters decide. It is a long way before we even have the general election but we must start looking at who would be the best candidate that will win."

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "al gore in campaign in 1988"

Al Gore adress multicultural voters in the month of October 1987, launching the Democratic Primary ahead of his 2 major opponents, Dukakis and Kennedy, expecting others to step-in.

In his turning key states and in the duty to safe the southern states for himself Al Gore reveals a part of his first program to the Non-White and the poor White community of the US:

The goal is easy, more he will start strong, and more the Dem of Congress will join him. More it will be like it and more the party will be likeable to play.

Let's reach the whole Democratic South!

We have to be honest, the Republicans led this country to a global prosperity for the Middle class, that made our opponent strong in the current race.

But they missed one thing, they pulled apart millions of poors, and among them there are a lot of former minorities who have been discriminated in the past for the color their skin or their parents...

As a senator from Tennessee, I am well conscient that the end of the segregation that Us, Democrats promoted definitively under L.B. Johnson is not enough.

Johnson launched a great program against poverty while keeping a balanced budget, it is in this goal that we have to focus on.

The CCCP is no longer as strong as it was, we signed common treaties of military moderation. It's time to invest back billions of dollars in social programs than in bombs.

Soon this period of tensions with the Soviets could definitively end, America has to show that everybody is equal in chance, in the pure spirit which animated the founder fathers when they built this land of the free.

So, we're proposing to reduce by 100 BILLIONS the military budget defence, from 500 to 400 billions, and invest everything in education subvention to promote a fair chance of education for all, and to invest first by subventions in the poorest schools of our country, those which welcome children of poor workers and sons of former immigrants who are now US citizens.

That will also include a program of school modernisation for everyone, and for every school.

I placed my multi-ethnic poor white essential message.

From this first 100 billions of investment we promote to arrive to 150 billions in 1990 of investment in education then 250 billions by the end of the next presidential mandate.

We won't need any tax raising for this point of our program, the end of tension with the Soviets will allow us on the long term to maintain a secure budget and to promote a fairer and social America that won't take any liberty to anyone! And we count the fiscal liberty within! The economic growth will also help to complete the part that won't be payed by the cuts we mentionned.

We do not want to increase the deficit, we want to better allow our current budget for every American!

Dukakis in Iowa, addresses a crowd of people, slams Sen. Gore "Gore can't balance our fed budget"

Michael Dukakis: "...Senator Gore has made some good points. But it is not just about winning the South in this election. It is about taking ideas from all parts of the country and bringing people together.

I believe Senator Gore does not have the experience to balance the budget of the United States. As Governor of Massachusetts, I have balanced the budget ten times. I have made the tough decisions. I know how much it could impact everyone. "

Robertson Visits Iowa

President Reagan bucked the establishment and has put jobs back in this country for everyone! He fought for the blue collar and evangelicals! That is what this campaign is about America! I am here as the true successor to the Reagan legacy and I think we can't be putting that in jeopardy with the milquetoast, vote Robertson to keep the wave of Morals and Growth coming America's way!

As I recall, having been alive in 1988, none of the American political commentators of the day both shared my viewpoint and had quite the barbed wit. They were quite tame back then. The "pudits" of today had yet to rise, or were still pursuing more mainstream journalistic careers at that time.

Dole Campaigns in New Hampshire

Hello everyone,

Today we must analyze the position of our great nation. Right now we are in a position of domestic security, but international uncertainty. In my administration, we would carry out our best efforts to address foreign issues, while still being in tune with the American people. I believe to have a stable government, one that is respected by the people, we need to be as clear as possible in our efforts both domestically and abroad.

Thank you all, have an outstanding day!

Dukakis in Iowa meets people struggling with addiction, asks them for their ideas to combat addiction

Michael Dukakis: "... It truly amazes me how strong each individual could be. Addiction is a disease and the day we start treating it like a disease is the day we will make some progress. The War on Drugs is not the way we need to go. We need better solutions, we need to get people into the workforce rather then putting them in jail, that is not the help people need. We have so many people incarcerated in this country for the smallest offense. Now I'd like to go around the room and ask everyone to give a few thoughts as what we could do as a country to help everyone who is struggling."

Dukakis smiled at everyone as he listens to everyone's ideas and thoughts on what could be done, until a heckler who decided to show up and insult people and began saying "Kill all the junkies! Send them to the commies! They'll love em over there!"

Dukakis seems uncomfortable as the heckler is escorted out after his little rant.

Dukakis: "What we just saw was something I don't believe in, I don't believe in killing all as the young man said "Junkies" but as we saw that young man give his speech, we could have stopped him but we would have denied him the right we are guaranteed by the first amendment Freedom of Speech so we allowed him and respected his guaranteed right and we'll take his words and we'll remember that some people have radical ideas, they might be the most craziest ideas but we must hear them."

The discussion has no more interruptions and goes smoothly until Gov. Dukakis leaves.

Dole talks Local Farms in Knoxville, Tennessee

I love local produce. Don't you all just love the feeling when you know you are eating something or buying something made in your own community? It feels good to know that you are cycling income in your own local community rather than to big corporations. Don't get me wrong; corporations aren't bad, as they are vital for the national economy, but local community goods are good for the local economies. In office, I plan to make farming subsidies smart; I will be directing more and more of them to small local owned farms rather than the big well off farms. If our small farms get support, then their own economies will strengthen. A strong farming economy means less need of government aid, which overall means less government expenditure. I am proud of all local farmers, and I will support them a lot when I am in office. Thank you all, and have a great night!

In hidden answer to Dukakis, Gore reveals his major fiscal promise during a major rally in Iowa after having passed days to seduce the southern Democratic organisations.

pres-cand-sen-al-gore-being-embraced-by-

The rally in Iowa:

That we need immediately is to  make a National Performance Review to reduce administrative codifications that make your life harder here in Iowa and in a majority of states of our country.

That is why my point to reduce deficit will be axed on 2 major points:

-1 Simplify Administrative codes

-2 Fight against Administrative frauds within the federal administration.

A journalist calls a question:

Do you have something to answer to Governor Dukakis?

Gore smiles:

Governor Dukakis is a great governor that I profoundly respect, of course I am in this race because I estimate myself more able to drive the Democrats to victory, to gather again the great coalition that made the last Democratic president of the US, a sudist too, Jimmy Carter!

And the current plan will reduce deficit and clean many problems of our federal administration, administration that we do need.

Like it we will be able to drive back money to Research and Devellopment as invest in Higher Education to help the youths to get a job in this turning point of our history.

Dukakis in New Hampshire, makes huge speech, calls for Debate

After greeting several people and shaking their hands and listening to what they had to say Governor Dukakis goes to a rally to make a major announcement.

"It's great to be here in New Hampshire. Many of you already know what I could do as you have seen what I have done in Massachusetts, and I hope you will take into consideration my record as Governor when the New Hampshire primary comes along. But besides that I have a major announcement, I am asking my Democratic colleagues to a debate, it's about time for us to give our solutions on the issues that this country faces. We need to  get the best candidate that could solve issues, not win an election."

Dukakis was obviously throwing something at Sen. Gore, as Gore had said he was the candidate that could win the Democrats the election.

Dukakis while doing a television interview responds to Sen. Kennedy's answer to debate.

"Well I'm glad Ted has decided to agree with me on debating. He is running a fine campaign and I hope Sen. Gore will decide for himself if he wants to debate. But let's give Sen. Gore credit he must be very busy to be debating with us." Dukakis said as he chuckled which in turn makes the journalist chuckle.

Okay the Northern Democratic Mates expect to cook me, they will see what a Southern Dem can do to them (OOC: thinking of Gore watching the news)

Sen Gore hereby confirms he will be glad to attend to the debate:

I will be glad to face my democratic opponent in the debate, America needs to see all the Democrats that can beat the Republicans, my opponent are great, M. Kennedy is a honest guy, His brothers brought good things and the will to end Jim Crow Laws was a great plan which is yet to end not in the law but in the facts. I will also be glad to face Governor Dukakis, cause I am sure such a man of skills like him will give me the opportunity to present my whole plan to the American people, thanks to his expectable questions!

Such a diplomacy. Bah, our party has for a time has a little chance of winning, I can't let this chance goes away. (Gore's thinking)

(OOC: Do you believe that @RP Overlord should play the journalist as RP master? Or someone else, or even a second journalist to help him @SeanFKennedy and @TheLiberalKitten?)

Dukakis in Florida, talks about the AIDS crisis, encourages voters to decide for themselves when voting

Michael Dukakis: "... I believe we need more funding on research to find a cure for the AIDS virus. We spend millions on the millitary but we can't even spend enough money to find a cure and help people. I know that we need a ready millitary for any emergency but we must divert some funds into this research. Please, it's not just about me running for office. You all should look at the candidates up and down the ballot. See who is the best candidate to represent you in your state legislation, or the House of Representatives, perhaps the US Senate and even president. Without a Congress that could work with a president, all the talk and goals set out on the campaign trail, nothing will ever get done."
