Europe 2010

Recommended Posts

So... evidently the European Union is set to have a President. Can a P4E scenario be far behind?

...now, yes, I know that the treaty hasn't been fully ratified yet, and also that the first such President would probably be selected, not elected, but still, I think it calls out for a scenario to be made of it.

I'd like to see this. For starers I would use the Wyoming rule when it comes to appropriating EV's to the map. Although making issues and candidates would be something that I would only trust to a European follower of Politics. As for the front runner...Anders Fough Rasmussen of Denmark seems sorta center-right.

Apparently Tony Blair is being heralded as the heir-apparent, if you can use that term for the inaugural holder of an office... And yes, I would want a lot of input from a European, or multiple Europeans, or maybe even prefer to have it made by a European.

My understanding is that the heads of government will vote for the President of the European Council by Qualified Majority Voting - so the number of votes granted to each country are already set out somewhere in official documents. The electorate in each country would be its government, so the regional issue centres should depend on incumbent national governments as well as the general ideological viewpoint of the country.

Hey folks,

I actually put a European Scenario together, mostly because I wanted to have a go with one. Unfortunately, there was an error in it somewhere that I couldn't iron out, so I sent it in to Theory Spark to see if they could figure it out. I haven't heard from them in a couple of months, so I might give them a poke to see what's going on. However, I'll let you know if it gets off the ground.

"not to not"? can't tell which end of the double negative you meant to be on here, though since Switzerland isn't in the EU I assume you mean it shouldn't be in the maps.

Hey,

I'm going back the drawing board somewhat with the EU scenario, but very keen to get it done before the actual president of the commission is picked. Anyone fancy putting an EU map together for me?

Cheers,

HB

I'm thinking of doing an EU scenario with RL party leaders in Chancellor Forever, though with actual policy differences between them rather than the muddy consensus that seems to exist. What do you guys think?

Good idea. Here's the reference you need: http://www.europarl.europa.eu/parliament/archive/elections2009/en/index_en.html

Most constituencies are simply the country as a whole, however some like Ireland, UK and France have multiple constituencies. It's up to you how you handle this, because they all use PR anyway.

Here are your parties:

EPP : Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats)

S&D : Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament

ALDE : Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe

GREENS/ EFA : Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance

ECR : European Conservatives and Reformists Group

GUE/ NGL : Confederal Group of the European United Left - Nordic Green Left

EFD : Europe of Freedom and Democracy Group

NA : Non-attached

Here are proposed leaders. Italicised are the European group leaders, none of whom have any public profile. Other significant figures within their political alliances are included, be they heads of state, heads of government or party founders.

European People's - Leader: Joseph Daul/Merkel/Sarkozy/Berlusconi

Socialist - Leader: Martin Schulz/Zapatero/Brown

Liberal - Leader: Graham Watson/Verhofstadt/Rasmussen (Lars L.)

Green - Leader: Cohn-Bendit/Monica Frassoni

Conservative - Leader: Michal Kaminski/Cameron/Klaus

Left - Leader: Francis Wurtz/Christofias

Eurosceptic - Leader: Nigel Farage

Non-inscrit - Leader: Geert Wilders/Jean-Marie Le Pen
