France's 2012 Presidential Election

Recommended Posts

Well unfortunately it is not. The droit au logement (the idea that everyone one has a right to have a place to live, and the State must provide it, is considered as normal and was decided by the right wing. The only debate on it in france is about the way this law is followed or not. The is almost no one in France saying this law is outrageous except some minor people that do not have the right to be cndidate in presidential elections.

I will try to do something but it is not a promise : only a wish :-)

I wish to be able to give to you guys a first beta version tomorrow night. but it will clearly be a 0.1 !!! lots and lots of work still lacking in the scenario...

As you might know I'm really slow at developping this scenario, for several reasons. well first the lack of time, but also the huge lack of informations that we currently have on those elections... And that's something strange because the election is not in two years and a handfull of days !!!

First : we don't know if President Sarkozy will be candidate : he is under 35% of fjob approval and more and more people wish to see other candidates.

Secondly : there will be a primary in the Socialist Party, but we still don't know which form it will take, nor when it will take place

Third : we don't know if there will be a primary in the President's Party (UMP), and we still don't know which candidates might try to run, and even those who are in the President's party might decide to run for an other party. (yep, French politics ^^ funny as hell)

Fourth : unlike the US where debates can last for months, in France political debates on particular subjects switch in matter of days, sometimes weeks. Also do the opinions : a candidate can support one position t one moment, but might change his view after the debate. This is very common in France. politicians tend to stand on one position only just before the election, and can change just after. It is not badly seen in France (our two last presidents but also lots of right and left personalities changed their views on lots of things bck and forth. Lately, one representative of the UMP who was in this past not so much a conservative became conservative to criticize President Sarkozy... until a week ago, now he his back on his left leg and support gay mariage...). this makes it very difficult to work on issues and the different positions of candidates, but also simply the different positions that I must put in the game !

On this, a foreign point of view would be good : if someone is interested in just creating some of these issues I could try to implement them and see if it works with the positions candidates could support even if it is not perfectly what they say... here i'm afraid I'm too close to the subject...

Fifth : I just had a problem : a few days ago the FN (far right) announced that they will have their primaries concluded in january 2011... That's very very soon... And the Socialists might do the same (summer 2011)... It means there will be 1) the longest campaign ever in French history and 2) a very long campaign also for the game... There will still be only two month were we play day after day.. but it still means weeks and weeks of campaign... I'm not sure if this would be good for the scenario...

here some news ! good night all ;)

At least you are still motivated enough to give it a good try and finish the scenario. You could shorten the primaries to the standard size the US ones are, but if you're aiming for a realistic representation of the campaign, we wouldn't blame you for doing it that way.

It's already a lot of fun, I'm looking forward to the finished version :)

With which candidate did you tested it ?

after a last test, I think Sarkozy is still too much strong at the beginning but it might be because of the fact he doesn't have to fight a tough primary when the Socialist Party is highly divided

I couldn't start the primaries so I played in a general election with Sarkozy with 4 parties. Yeah, it played well, I'm just wondering if you would want the election race to be closer. I won with Sarkozy with 265 EV's, with 3 or 4 national endorsements, and without losing all my money. If you want the race to be tighter, you could reduce the undecided vote, which is very large compared to most other scenarios!

I know it's hard because English isn't you're native language, but one issue should be Unemployment, minus the extra "e" in the spelling.

Thanks for your test...

Why were you not able to start with primaries ?

About the "closeness" of the election, one thing is important to understand : in France, if in the first turn of the election no candidate cross the 50% line, their is a runoff. Historically the "moderate right" candidate is always in the runoff (never we saw the center right candidate not being also candidate in the run off). The run off in France accept only the two candidates that got the higher results. So the difficulty in creating a french scenario without a proper game developped for it is that the run off is what decide the election. So even if you win the first election (which is the only one simulated in this scenario) it doesn't mean you would win the Presidential election....

but here this is the point that makes me a little worried about the interest of this scenario. how to make it intersting if we can't know for sure that the player would have won the election ? currently when you play it you can have your personnal objective to make during the first turn of the election but you can't actually win...

I bet you did with sarkozy between 25 and 35% of the popular vote. That is waht counts in the French presidential election. And if you did around this result, it means the scenrio is well balanced to recreate the reality.

So my current problem with this scenario is to allow the player to be able to win would mean an absolutetly not realistic scenario. And a realistic scenario is frustrating for the plyer who is not found of the French politics...

And for my english mistake thanks I just corrected it ;)

an other thing I wanted to add to the first page of this thred the French national anthem I thought it would be nice as you can hear it in every political meeting (except far left meetings) during presidential elections. but i was not able to do it I don't know why. Anyway... you want to hear it by Edith Piaf ? =>

I get this bmp error, on the scenario starting screen when changing between the 2 main parties, and it also happens when I try to go to the primaries game:

"Cannot open file scenarios/ France - Presidentielle 2012//party images/candidates/francois_hollande_ps_sarkozy_ump_budget_finances_dette_publique_pib-economie_large.bmp"

I'll play the general election game again soon to re-check it is realistic.

I'll check this later today I don't have problems with this I don't know why this is happening

@French Conservative

I know it'd be kind of pointless for them to run in a presidential election, but do the UDB (Brittany nationalist party)do well at all in Brittany's seats in National Assembly elections? I ask as Celtic nationalist parties have come up quite a few times lately in the forums.

Hem... The Brittany nationalist Party has been disolved in 1944...

The ADSAV, (in french : Parti du Peuple Breton, in english Brtion's people party) never (in my limited knowlodge about them) had candidates in an election.

Playing as Sarkozy, I won 30.4% of the vote on 881 Electoral votes. There was a weird happening on the scenario though, the map, and percentages never updated on a weekly basis. The map just looked the same all the way throughout, so I was sort of blinded where to campaign. Maybe once you complete it, it will be OK.

Sorry I have been away from this forum and this game for months I'll check this out I'll have to redownload the scenario entirely and check where I left it. I honestly don't know why you had something like this.

I am assuming that it is for the Presidents Forever 2008 Game engine? :D

News :

The developpement for the scenario is moving on.

Now, we have 3 early versions but fully developped (need to work on balance a little again) parties with all the candidates : UMP, PS and MODEM.

Issues are worked on. Still some work to do though, to be able to finish it with the candidates already done.

The map is entirely finished.

I hope to be able to propose you a first beta version to have your opinion. The scenario will of course be entirely in english so no problem to understand it.
