Ayati Parliament Election 2009

I'll get working on this as soon as I finish a couple projects currently on my plate. Feel free to come up with party leaders or cabinet members and post 'em here.

Religion:

  • Hinduism 60%
  • Islam 12%
  • Christianity 10%
  • Sikhism 8%
  • Jainism 4%
  • Buddhism 4%
  • None 2%
    Population of 525,000,000

Political Parties:

  • Ayati Peoples' Congress (37%)- liberal ruling party
  • Ayati National Alliance (35%)- conservative opposition
  • New Center (12%)- peasant, agragarian party
  • Communist Party (8%)- Communist and left-wing revolutionaries
  • Labour Party (4%)- moderate socialist party
  • Muslim League (4%)- Muslim party that is front for Taliban-like guerillas

The Ayati People's Congress has been in power since 1997. Ayati became independent from New Brittanian rule in 1997 after an independence referendum and a separation referendum from Hindustan and Baluchistan. It is dealing with Communist trade union strikes in the industrial cities, and a Muslim revolt in the west coupled with a difficult peace process with Baluchistan.

Improve civilian control of military and more accountable defense funding.

Increase funding for the Armed Forces. Enhanced discipline and training.

@

//Commonwealth

The Commonwealth is a legacy of Brittanian imperialism.

Exit the Commonwealth and establish an elected President.

Remain in the Commonwealth, but elect our own Executive.

Preserve Commonwealth membership. Stronger ties to New Brittania.

Independence was a mistake. Seek to rejoin New Brittanian empire.

@

//Drug Trade

Legalise and regulate all drugs. Promote recreational use.

Focus on "harm reduction" measures, legalize cannabis.

Provide rehabilitation for addicts, crack down on dealers.

Toughen laws for illegal drugs, increase enforcement.

Ayati needs a war on drugs. Death penalty for dealers.

@

//Economic Development

Ayati needs an "Alternative Economic Strategy" of a planned economy.

Focus on development of industry through protective tariffs.

Promote sustainable development and a "green" diversified economy.

Pursue economic development through free trade and open markets.

Supply-side economic policies will bring about economic prosperity.

@

//Environment

The environment comes first. Implement eco-taxes on pollution.

Protect the environment. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Support incentives for clean energy and pollution prevention.

Open to environmentalism, but not an important issue right now.

Relax environmental standards. The economy comes first.

@

//Federalism

Significantly increase federal control. Reduce Regional authority.

Regions have their rights but the federal government is superior.

Keep federal and regional powers as they are.

Fully autonomous provinces. Allow for separation.

Improve ties to the Communist Bloc. Stand up to Western imperialism.

No gun control. Lift restrictions on automatic weapons.

@

//Labour Unions

Mandate closed shop agreements for every worker. Limit manager pay.

Unions are good for our economy. Protect and strengthen union rights.

Try to legislate a balance between unions and management.

Unions have far too much power. Relax dismissal protections.

Unions should be outlawed. Severely curtail the right to strike.

@

//Nationalisation

Support large-scale nationalization to take over all industries.

Extend nationalization to water, transport, and manufacturing.

Improve productivity and efficiency in public industries.

More competition in markets. Support privatization of industry.

Privatize all industries. National ownership is intrinsically bad.

@

//Peace Process

Industan is a Muslim land, return it to Baluchistan.

Improve peace process with greater concessions and accomodation.

Maintain peace process, but fight to end Muslim terrorism.

Industan rightfully belongs to Ayati. No more peace process.

Industan is sacred Hindu soil. Expel the Muslims.

@

Maintain state secularism. Oppose Hindutva, greater rights for non-Hindus.

Respect all major faiths, improve religious unity to combat extremism.

Support Hindutva, protect Hindu interests and a uniform civil code.

Make Hinduism the State Religion. Expel threats to our Hindu character.

@

//Tax Reform

Support a "Wealth tax" on the rich and a Carbon Tax.

The 2008 Tax increases are necessary to balance the budget.

Bring back the 10p Tax Rate and cut the VAT Rate by 3%.

Abolish the Property Tax and reduce Income and Corporate tax rates.

Abolish the estate tax, and shift taxes from income to consumption.

@

//Terrorism

Seek to combat the root causes of Terrorism. Repeal Islamophobic laws.

Repeal the PTA. Combat terrorism without compromising civil liberties.

Review current security measures but focus on defeating terrorist groups.

Keep the 180-day detention period for terror suspects and greater police powers.

The Prevention of Terrorist Activities Act doesn't go far enough.

I'm not the best at this, but i'll try...

Legalise Prostitution. Allow Free flow of sex slave traffic in all areas of country at night hours.

Legalise & set up brothels or red light zone, to ensure safety on sex worker's behalf.

Restrict laws on open prostitution, fines for those who solicit sex in public.

Prostitution is illegal, imminent fines and jail for sex workers and clients.

An immoral practice. Sex workers and clients face execution.

For the vice laws, do you mean especially for the Muslim community?

If, so maybe something like this:

We should legalize gambling and prostitution in Red Light Areas all around our territory. Lift all existing restrictions on alcohol and lower the drinking age to 18.

Gambling should be only allowed in certain cities. Consider lifting some existing restrictions on alcohol.

We should only allow gambling in hotels only for foreigners. Alcohol rules are fine and we should keep the drinking age to 21.

We must take a better suit against vice such as imposing modesty rules for women and outlawing alcohol for the Muslim-majority provinces.

Vice is a big problem in our country! We should have a permanent police against the propagation of vice and we should impose censorship on ''decadent'' foreign movies and TV Shows. Impose a proper dress code for each community.

Most of the Conservatives intensely dislike the Muslim community, to say the very least. But thanks for the ideas

This will be the new project, given the outcome of the vote. I look forward to revisiting it.

I could use some help with the ridings, I'll use the wikipedia pages for the Lok Sabha election and just go from there.

Anyways, I've decided to resurrect this scenario with Gaffney's map and its population reduced to 118 million and put in the "new world" as a former British colony created through massive Indian immigration.

I'll put this scenario ahead of Tokundi. Do you people want me to go with the old idea of it being more like India or an Indian-majority ex-"colony"?

I'd prefer more like India itself.

Do you mean 'Piracy' as an issue as in copyright infringement or like what currently goes on off the coasts of Somalia, among other places?

Somali piracy. Ayati is having problems with piracy from abroad (as is Tokundi).

Is it possible to have some info on each party ideology and core voting patterns for each party base?

Ayati Peoples' Congress- Liberal Ruling Party since independence, secular and socially liberal but economically pragmatist

Ayati National Alliance- national conservative opposition, supported by Hindus (with some support from Sikhs, Jains, and Christians), socially and economically conservative

New Center- agrarian party with a strong rural appeal, socially conservative but economically moderate

Labour Party- social democratic party and coalition partner to the the APC, socially pragmatic but economically centre-left

Left Front- Alliance of Communist parties, left-wing but strong in certain regions

Muslim League- Populist Islamic Party, obtains support from the separatist Muslim groups

As of the current year (2009 in the scenario), is Ayati still a Dominion, ie, with a Governor-General? Or does it mirror India in that it became a Republic extremely quickly?
