UK 1983

Recommended Posts

Just to let everyone know what I'm doing at the moment, I'm working on a 1983 scenario. This was a landslide victory for the Conservative Party, so it's nothing like as close as my 1992 scenario. However, the 1992 constituency file is almost exactly the same as the 1983 file, except for percentages and one constituency (Milton Keynes), so it's a natural extension. What made it such a landslide is the collapse in Labour support due to a new centre-left group, the SDP-Liberal Alliance. Due to the first past the post system, they can get really large vote percentages and still only win 25-30 seats out of 650.

It's 85% complete, I believe. When I have decent graphics and correct policy positions, I'll release the first version.

I am going to include an interesting add-on, because the scenario itself is quite an easy win for the Tories. I'm adding a January 1982 scenario, which is an alternative history including the fall of the government in the middle of the recession, before the victory in the Falklands War, and with the SDP-Liberal Alliance at its peak in the polls, so any of the three contenders for government can become Prime Minister.

Great! Brilliant thinking for a January 1982 scenario, i never would've thought that myself. I recall from what i read, the Alliance were slightly in the lead over Labour and Conservatives.

I could send you some stuff that might help Gaffers.

I started a 1983 scenario but hit a bug which prevented me from opening it. The graphics were good. I did some new issue positions. I would also suggest you check out the 1983 city scenario for Liverpool and re-use as desired.

Which of course was designed by Treas.

I would recommend an 8 player game with the Northern Ireland parties as 5-8.

I've sorted out the policy positions and it's only images now, which is about half an hour's work. Thanks for the offer, though.

That's fine, at least it means that I can be robust in my review.

This should be good as 1993 was.

A minor criticism of the 1993 images was that a number of those used for leaders were of a later period. I could have sent you 1983 images of Steel, Thatcher, Jenkins, Napier, Paisley, Foot, Hume and Molyneaux. The Adams one is a bit later.

Oh yes, and Wilson, though I never found an early one of Elis Thomas.
