Perhaps in this fictional world, Kozekura (should be with an 'e' instead of an 'a' in the middle, if you're referring to the word for 'cherry blossom') may have been a close-to-Home-Island of Japan, like Okinawa, made into an independent country with the treaty ending World War II. That's just an initial thought there.

A suggestion or two I'd made on my Japan 2009 thread.

Religion

Buddhism (Mahayana) 40%

Taoism 20%

Confucianism 15%

Christianity 10%

None 15%

This looks like a very Chinese/Korean spread of religions. What about Shinto or Zen Buddhism?

What sort of economy does this nation have compared to RW Japan? And do they have a strong corporate culture, or a more traditional family-based one?

Just some initial ideas.

I'll also have a look at the clan flags in Shogun: Total War, though I don't know what format the images are in.

I did like that idea of Kozakura being separated from another country (which in this case will be another Japanese nation, much larger with a name I need to come up with). Kozakura's population will be around 40 million.

Zen is technically an offset of Mahayana Buddhism; I found that in my research actually (the divide in Buddhism is basically between Theraveda and Mahayana schools- Zen is just a subset of the latter school).

I'll add in Shinto though.

Religion

Buddhism (Mahayana-Zen) 35%

Shinto 20%

Taoism 15%

Christianity 10%

Confucianism 5%

None (Secular-Atheist) 15%

Three questions:

1)Are christian religions a big factor in the country as in South Korea?

2)Is the US Military Bases a big issue as it was in Okinawa?

3)People in the Japanese political system are not very politised, so this is important. The power of big corporations is also important, as endosers and for donations. Do you plan on adding this to your scenario?

Also, do your country will be more influenced by Russia (like Hokkaido) or China and Taiwan (like Okinawa).

What is the climate like ? (temperate like ''mainland'' Japan, cold temperate with long winters like Hokkaido or subtropical like Okinawa)

Maybe add the Winter 2014 Olympics as an issue as Kozakura as won the bid (maybe the same issue as the British Columbia 2005 scenario?).

1)Are christian religions a big factor in the country as in South Korea?

Kind of; the Christian minority is larger in this Republic due its separation from the mother country. It is only 10% of the population, but the fastest-growing along with Taoism and secularism. However, it still is a minority- but it is resentful towards favoritism towards the "native" religions by the government.

2)Is the US Military Bases a big issue as it was in Okinawa?

Well there is no United States in this micronational world, the closest countries are Alexandria and Brittania to fulfilling that role. (New) Brittania has bases in Kozakura, which is somewhat controversial due to the troops' behavior and the presence of nuclear submarines.

3)People in the Japanese political system are not very politised, so this is important. The power of big corporations is also important, as endosers and for donations. Do you plan on adding this to your scenario?

Yeah, there definately will be a strong corporate presence on the island. And turnout will be about US levels; probably around 55%.

Also, do your country will be more influenced by Russia (like Hokkaido) or China and Taiwan (like Okinawa).

Definately Taiwan and China, considering the large Chinese minority and the presence of Taoism and Confucianism.

What is the climate like ? (temperate like ''mainland'' Japan, cold temperate with long winters like Hokkaido or subtropical like Okinawa)

The north will be more temperate; the south more subtropical.

Maybe add the Winter 2014 Olympics as an issue as Kozakura as won the bid (maybe the same issue as the British Columbia 2005 scenario?).

Olympics just seems like a weak issue- since at least 3 even 4 of the 5 parties will be at least friendly to the idea (considering how much revenue it'll bring in). But it's an interesting suggestion.

@issue position descriptions

// left to right, 1 - 5

//Brittania Relations

We should sever relations with Brittania and expel the invaders from our lands.

We should stand up to Brittanian imperialism more often. Push for gradual withdrawl.

Preserve our relationship with Brittania but keep our distance from their colonial policies.

Brittania is our most important partner. Our ties must be closer through free trade.

Rule Brittania! Apply for admission into the Brittanian Commonwealth.

@

//Business Taxes

Establish a "windfall profits tax" to ensure that corporations pay their fair share.

Slight rises in corporate and business taxes, reduce corporate welfare.

Tax credits and incentives to help small businesses. Close loopholes.

Lower corporate taxes across the board to maintain business competitiveness.

Abolish the corporate tax and scale back federal spending to pay for it.

@

//Communist Threat

Recognize Katyusha and its Communist allies. A non-aggression pact will ensure peace at all costs.

We should deal with the Communists through diplomatic channels and compromise.

Support a policy of containment against Communist nations. Establish an anti-Communist alliance.

Prepare for military action against the Communists with New Brittania, Alexandria, and Stormark help.

Bomb Katyusha back into the Stone Age. Drive the Reds back to the gates of hell!

@

//Corruption

Reform the entire system and punish those who abuse it out of greed. Fight the capitalist lobby!

Establish provisions to secure better oversight of government practices. Limit corporate donations.

Thoroughly investigate all cases of corruption and apply laws as they are to correct the issue.

Corruption is bad, but often exaggerated to criticise the government and used as a disguise for anti-business policy.

There is no issue here, politicians can follow business interests and vice versa.

@

//Economic Policy

Support a socialist command economy to create jobs and eliminate unemployment.

Combine Keynesian economics with some nationalization and enhanced welfare state.

Interventionist economics: some public investment in infrastructure and industry.

Laissez-Faire economic plan: tax cuts, debt reduction, open markets.

Supply-Side economics: massive tax cuts, deregulation, and privatization.

@

//Education

Large increase in federal funding. Make free public education at all levels a national priority.

Increase federal funding for all-day schools and universities. Free tuition for undergraduate university study.

Priority for school funding, more national standards. Moderate university tuition, merit-based scholarships.

National quality standards and competition. Provide school vouchers. Make university fees tax-deductible.

Full privatization of education from kindgergarten to university. Reduce federal funding of education.

@

//Environment

The environment always comes first. Raise taxes on pollution, especially carbon emissions.

Environment is a priority. Increase environmental standards and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

We must protect the environment. Support more recycling and tax incentives for being eco-friendly.

Support market-based environmental incentives, and reduce environmental regulation.

The environment is fine, global warming is a hoax. Stop eco-bureaucracy.

@

//Green Belt

Save and protect our rainforests and coasts at all costs from exploitation.

Expand parks and wildlife refuges. Prohibit development in the Green Belt.

Balance energy and housing needs with environmental concerns in the Green Belt.

Allow housing development and petroleum exploration in parts of the Green Belt.

Abolish all protected parks and refuges. Open up the entire Green Belt to development.

@

//Health Service

Dramatically increase funding, abolish private sector, and provide free dental and home health care.

Increase funding for health service, reduce private involvement, and expand coverage to include perscription drugs.

Increase funding to reduce waiting, make health service more efficient, and reduce perscription drug costs.

Establish maximum acceptable wait times, and more private delivery of health care services.

Fully privatize the Health Service. Promote private insurance companies along free market model.

@

//Minority Rights

End racist immigration laws. We should embrace a new multicultural identity.

Minority groups have sincere grievances. Support multicultural initiatives to accomodate them.

Greater integration of minorites is necessary for social harmony. Support a civil rights law.

Treat all Kozakurans equally under the law. No special treatment for minority groups.

Only Japanese who follow proper religious traditions are true Kozakurans.

@

//National Defense

Abolish the military. Create a Ministry of Peace. Pacifism is our best defensive option.

Reduce military spending. Disband most ground forces. We must adhere to the neutrality policy.

Leave military spending at current levels. Focus on peace-keeping and special forces operations.

Increase military budget, be more efficient. Support rearmament and allow training with allied troops.

Increase defense budget to 20% of GDP. Bring back conscription. Reclaim our past glory!

@

//Pension Reform

Raise taxes to pay for public pensions for all. Index pensions with average earnings. No to private investment.

Increase funding for the public pensions and basic provision. Establish a guarantee for pension funds.

Reform the public pensions with means-testing. Provide tax incentives for saving and investment.

Support partial-privatisation of public pensions. Allow workers to invest pensions on stock market.

End public subsidy, make contributions voluntary, and enact full privatisation of the public pensions.

@

//Personal Taxes

Raise income taxes for the top 5% and a "wealth tax" to help redistribute income more fairly.

Support a carbon tax, with some tax relief, to allow for a "green shift." Try to be revenue neutral.

Some tax cuts, but not at the expense of any programs. Close loopholes.

We need a flat income tax. Reduce income and property taxes across the board.

Enact a "tax shift" from income taxes to a GST system for fair taxation and economic growth.

@

//Reunification

The only "reunification" we should explore is unification with the Communist states.

Oppose reunification. We must stay independent and preserve our democratic freedoms.

Hold a referendum on this issue. No campaigning by the government either way.

Support reunification. For too long we have allowed an artificial barrier to separate us.

We should restore the office of Emperor that once united our mighty nations.

@

//Social Issues

Impose atheism as the state religion. No religious censorship of society, after all religion is just superstition.

Support legalisation of prostitution. Emphasize tolerance and secularism. No public funds for religious schools.

No formal position on social-religious issues. Leave up to free votes. Respect Buddhist-Shinto heritage.

Oppose legalisation of prostitution. Protect traditional family. Support funding religious schools.

Ban pornography, repeal current abortion laws, and promote Christianization of society.

@

//Terrorism

The "Terrorists" are only defending against our imperialist policies. End military intervention.

Combat the root causes of terrorism by eliminating poverty. Reduce military operations.

Work with allies to fight terrorism, cut off terrorist financing, and limit military force.

Increase military and intelligence operations against terrorists. Use targeted assassination.

Terrorism must be stopped at all costs and by any means necessary. War is the only option!

@

//Transport

Raise car and petrol taxes to pay for comprehensive programme. Reduce car use.

Focus on creation of a national monorail and improvement of mass transit systems.

Increase bus subsidies, tax breaks for hybrid cars, and funding for rail system.

Scrap car tax. Reduce Petrol tax. More funding for road building and maintenance.

Abolish the petrol tax. Promote automobile use instead of mass transit.

@

//Welfare

Support a univeral basic income coupled with guaranteed housing and a War on Poverty.

Increase welfare payments and greater support for the disabled. More funding for public housing.

Support retraining initiatives to help workers find jobs. Provide disability and unemployment insurance.

Enact "welfare-to-work" programs to make unemployed work for the dole. Promote home ownership.

Abolish all social welfare programs. Don't waste money on the lazy. Let charity handle the problem.

Hey Matty, you need to finish those characters!

Um...last time I checked, I don't need to do anything. I do have a life outside of this site. I gave you a lot and I am sure you'll be able to finish it.

What i would suggest is copy and paste male & female first names & surnames onto notepad, seperate them in their own files, and then just take it from there. I myself have been trying to find something that will randomize them into full names, to make the process quicker, but i haven't found an effective one yet.

Hey everyone,

I did manage to find sufficient candidate names and finish the ridings file.

I'm going to do some interesting things with endorsers such as having 8 corporations to receive endorsements from. However, I could use some cool regional flags as well as a national flag.

Here is the info on the corporations (feel free to suggest what issue they should care about or their political alignment):

-Mitshuhama Technologies (hi-tech, robotics)

-Renraku Electronics (electronics, computers)

-Yamatetsu Chemical (chemicals, plastics)

-Nakatomi Corporation (finance, banking)

-Datsun Motor Company (automobiles)

-Kobayashi Industries (consumer goods)

-Sanyo Entertainment (television, radio, film production)

-Akita Steel (steel, manufacturing, coal, iron mining)

BTW, an idea for either a private endorser or the leader of an 'Independents' party:

Akira Fujiwara - Self-made billionare off playing the Kozekuran Stock Exchange with a master's hand; popular in media circles and among the common Kozekuran for his wit and public escapades (this seems to endear the public in modern RL Japan); quite possibly the richest and most well-known man in Kozekura.
