  1. I wish I had kept better notes during the run. This was my first ever full game on PI, after a few false starts. I played on easy and feel I should have won by a higher margin, though it speaks to the games difficulty that I couldn't do as well as obama irl. Clinton started with a considerable lead in the primaries. 30% of the vote was her floor, but she was never able to gain much above that. Biden won the first 3 primaries to emerge as a surprise third place candidate, routinely picking up delegates in each primary. He wasnt able to rise above 20% or so at his most popular nationally, putting him squarely behind Obama and Clinton. He dropped out shortly before the home stretch, the last 700 or so delegates. While Obama got off to a slow start, he picked up considerably on and after Super Tuesday, winning every single primary by the end of the election. The final tally came out to Clinton at ~1700 delegates, Obama at ~1500, Biden at ~600, and the remaining delegates split between edwards, dodd, and perhaps a few to someone else who is slipping my mind. Meanwhile, Romney easily won the GOP primary, reaching the 50% point sometime in the middle of the spring. In the conventions, Obama won after being endorsed by all of the other candidates (minus clinton of course) and chose Biden as VP, Romney chose Crist. Romney's early win gave him a strong electoral advantage, though he never held the popular vote. I worked to solidify out numbers in the great lakes region, the southwest, and some mid atlantic and southeast regions. We each won one debate. As the election drew near, I held a slight electoral advantage, with a lot of states up for grabs. I used my remaining resources to bomb them with all the ads I had on both me and romney, and crossed my fingers. In the end, Obama won with 300 electoral college votes. this represented all of new england, the great lakes, the west coast, and 2 southwestern states or so. I wasnt able to win any traditional southern states, even ones I had polled well in like VA, NC, GA, and FL all went to Romney. On election night, Texas stayed blue for quite a long time before flipping red, which was a nice surprise. all in all, fun times, and we won, even if it was a disappointing win.

    Romneylution and Romneyversal

(Default settings). I decided that I would ignore the first number of primaries and concentrate on the 2nd of May in order to give my opponents a nasty surprise and also to quote von Clausewitz "The only decisive battle is the last one". The plan was that they would use up their time and money on the early races but by the time the 5th of February came up I would be far too strong in those states for them to win. First targeting (my favourite thing to do in the game) then organisational strength and then footsoldiers. I had tried this strategy before to devastating effect. I also concentrated on spinning against Giuliani and Obama, winning debates 9 I got my issue knowledge and debating skill to 5 early) and doing a rally now and then in Massachusetts just to avoid the Romney not campaigning story. The first debate was a tie between myself and Huckabee. Early scandals were hurting but I hadn't run ads so my fiances were in great shape. I easily won the 2nd and 3rd debates. When the 1st of January 08 came along I spent 10 PIPs to get Trump's endorsement. IOWA (0) The day before Iowa I did 3 policy speeches, 3 barnstorms and 3 rallies there but 2 speeches backfired. As expected it was Hunter who took Iowa while I came 2nd last with only 7.9%. WYOMING (1) Being tired only policy speeches would work in Wyoming and I came last with only 1 delegate while Huckabee won the debate. I won the next debate however. NEW HAMPSHIRE (0) I was too tired for New Hampshire so I didn't campaign there and came 2nd last with no delegates. Then I narrowly lost a debate. MICHIGAN (30) 3 policy speeches, barnstorms and rallies each but 2 gaffes resulted. Giulani had a big lead there but then I was the winner and all 30 delegates went to me. McCain was 2nd and Giuliani a distant 3rd. Finally my strategy of throwing stuff at the wall in early primaries had worked. I reckoned that I should at least put up a token fight. NEVADA (34) Same 3 in Nevada as Kuchinich withdrew and again Giuliani had lead. I won Nevada with 5.7% more than Giuliani and Dodd withdrew. SOUTH CAROLINA (0) Being too tired for barnstorming or rallies I did 3 policy speeches. No gaffes and a positive news story in spite of having energy of -over 400! I then was at 95 with a lot of endorsers. With Florida soon I spent a PIP to get Charlie Crist. I also halted my buildup of strength to get endorsers using my final PIP and some CPs. I got only 0.7% in South Carolina; McCain won it. FLORIDA (57) There were 9 days separating South Carolina and Florida which was a relief since I needed rest. Obama was endorsed by...Sarah Palin. One of the funniest things I've ever seen in this game. I narrowly won a debate with McCain coming second and Hunter in turn just 1 behind him. The day before Florida Paul offered to withdraw and I accepted. 2 speeches of mine backfired there. I won Florida by a a margin of 0.3% over Giuliani; lucky since it's first past the post. MAINE (0) With CPs to spare I made 4 ads boasting about my leadership was part of my theme. All my Republican opponents had less than 300,000 dollars remaining. I drew with McCain in a debate; he would have won only his attack on me backfired. I discovered that the ads I ordered were for Maine and not national so that meant they would arrive too late for Maine. I ordered 4 low budget national ones. I made one gaffe in Maine. McCain easily won it. I began working on Virginia and other later states. 5TH FEBRUARY (692) I decided not to campaign anywhere with so many states coming in all at once so I flew back to Mass to help with resting. The ads were ready but I deleted one by accident. I had the rest run in the 22 places up for grabs. I got to 95 with a lot of endorsers. On the 4th of February Hunter offered to withdraw and I accepted and Richardson quit too. To avoid bankruptcy I halted 2 ads on the 5th itself. Situation before the counting: Romney 122 McCain 52 Hunter 43 Huckabee 6 Paul 5 Giuliani and Thompson 2 each I won 16 races as did Obama. I may have been out of the loop for a long time but clearly my strategy still works. LOUISIANA (47), KANSAS (39) AND WASHINGTON STATE (0) I decided to get Roberts, Vitter and outgoing President Bush to endorse me. Biden endorsed Obama and withdrew while Edwards just withdrew. I forgot to turn off my last ad but it didn't run anyway due to lack of funds. At this point everyone was low on money; I was the richest (of course) with 2 million and Obama 2nd with 1 million. Thompson offered to withdraw and I accepted. I was at 95 with a lot more endorsers and worked on getting them in these 3 states. Vitter and Roberts endorsed me. I won Kansas by around 5% over McCain but easily won Louisiana again with McCain in 2nd but Giuliani won Washington 4.8% over me with McCain in 3rd. MARYLAND (37), VIRGINIA (63) AND WASHINGTON DC (19) Just one day before McCain offered to withdraw and I accepted. I bagged all 3 beating Giuliani by 15.8% in Maryland, by 45.2% in Viriginia and by 20.6% in DC. WISCONSIN (40) Obama got the Big Mo' and an endorsement by Jimmy Carter. Bush endorsed Giuliani. One day before Wisconsin Huckabee offered to withdraw, I accepted and then it was down to myself and Giuliani. I won Wisconsin 71.8%-28.2% and was endorsed by Herb Kohl. OHIO (88), RHODE ISLAND (12), TEXAS (140) AND VERMONT (17) With victory so close I spent spare CPs on getting endorsers and by now was level with Obama even with left wing endorsers and he with me with right wing endorsers. Naturally I went by which state was soonest. Obama got endorsed by Rick Perry. I was endorsed by Sanders. Clearly endorsers are still too easy for the other party to get. Endorsements kept coming in. I ran out of state level endorsers. Giuliani released an ad attacking Thompson even though he had withdrawn. I assigned 3 CPs to command strength, 3 to fundraising and 2 to strategic strength; my strengths were lower than Obama's generally and I would need to boost them before the general. With easy wins in these states I locked up the nomination and chose Condoleeza Rice. I was considering Gingrich but Rice has better Integrity.
