  1. In the original P4E when you gave a speech, there was an issue specific headline. We no longer get that. We should be getting headlines like "McCain Expresses Views on Immigration" or "Obama Slams McCain on Iraq". Instead, we get the same type of message as when Barnstorming--no mention about what the speech was about. Is there ANY effect for a speech besides the headline momentum? Also, since a Speech is location-specific, does the speech have a greater impact in the state it is given then in the nation at large? For instance, would it be beneficial to talk about Social Security in Florida, or Immigration in the Southwest, or Outsourcing in Ohio?
  2. However you rate thier experience, McCain and Biden should have the same (probably 4) . Obama and Palin should be rated the same as well (3 or 2). As for Leadership, Obama and McCain can both be 4 (Biden/Palin 3). Make them all 3 in Integrity. As for Charisma, give Obama a 5, Palin a 4 and McCain/Biden 3
  3. Report on the election mod: I can get the game to schedule two primaries. There are some issues though First, it appears that the AI doesn't consider the second primary. Also, on the map, the two sattes appear in white regardless of who won. Also, if you check the map, there is no indication of a second primary. What I have now isn't a real fix. Ideally, TheorySpark could come up with a patch allowing two primaries in a state or (a simpler method-just reschedule the Florida and Michigan primaries from January to May)
  4. I think I have a work-around. I set up 2 more political units (called michigan2 and florida2) The only election event they have is the second Democratic primary. I need to test to see if it works the way I like
  5. Recently, there has been a move to give the voters in Florida and Michigan a voice in the Democratioc nomination. Those states had thier delagates stripped by the DNC because they held early contests. The P4E+P files handled this by setting the primary delegate count to 1. At issue, Is there a way to give a state two primary days? I tried to add a second Democratic primary event to Florida and Michigan and I got an error. Is there a way to address the changing status of the Democratic nomination contest of 2008?
  6. The candidate that wins an early primary gets a favorable news story (with a certain + value momentum) Is there a way of changing how much of a bump you get? It seems that the Iowa/New Hampshire contests don't get the same amount of bump that the do in the real world. Is there a place to set these values? Also, some candidates get momentum for doing better than expected in a primary (That would only apply to Iowa and New Hampshire) Right now only the winner gets the momentum(regardless of how narrow the victory)
  7. Thank you for your feedback. A few questions: Where did you find the home state information for Whitmore, Bennett and Prescott. (Marshall being from Iowa, I saw on Wikipedia). VP candidate Levinson was the Jeff Goldblum character from the movie. WRT Garnder, IIRC he was just giving a speech in Salt Lake City prior to arriving at the compound (not necessarily where he was from). I placed him in Washington state because he was played by actor Ray Wise who is best known for the role of Leland Palmer in the TV series Twin Peaks Do you know where I could find better pictures?
  8. This scenario features several Presidents from TV and movies. The political red/blue trends are similar to both the real world in 2004 and my 2006 WestWing scenario. Anyway here are the candidates Democrats: Jed Bartlet (West Wing) (default) David Palmer (24) Matt Santos (West Wing) Dave Kovic (The movie 'Dave') Republicans: James Marshall (movie 'Air Force One') (default) Thomas Whitmore (movie 'Independence Day') Charles Logan (24) There was a fair amount of guesswork involved, but it should be interesting. Feedback is always appreciated
  9. Hello, all I have finished a Primaries scenario of the 2006 Presidential election from the TV series "The West Wing" This is an updated version of my scenario "Santos vs Vinick", which handled this election in the original P4E. The scenario has the following candidates Democrats: Matt Santos Robert Russell John Hoynes Ricky Rafferty Eric Baker (gen election only) Republicans Arnold Vinick Rev Don. Butler Glenallen Walken
  10. It seems that when I give an issue speech, it is not reported in the paper, nor does it seem to have any impact on momentum. This is during the General Election. I do occasionally get a message like "Kerry Meets with Voters in {Wherever}" -- the same kind you get when barnstorming. Looking at the Momentum, there is no change in the issue section. I don't get headlines like "Kerry Outlines plans on Social Security" Or "Kerry Slams Bush on Iraq". We got things like that in the original version of P4E. What is wrong with the Policy Speeches and how can they be fixed
  11. I have a question about Crusaders. In particular is there a way to have some "party-wide" crusaders that are available to any candidate, but only in the General Election. For example an incumbent President might not take sides in the Primaries, but would be a Crusader for the nominee in the General Election. Suggestion for Election Night. There are two numbers for each candidate. Right now the small number is the number of EV in states that have been called, and the large number is the number of EV in all states where the poll have closed. It would be better if the large number was the "called states EV"
  12. I have encountered an odd bug with the Endorsers. I am creating a scenario the main Republican candidate and all of the Democrats are pro-choice and one of the Republicans is strongly pro-life. So I created a pro-choice Endorser with "party_stance" pointing to Democrat and the leader_stance pointing to the main Republican. What happens is that all Democrats get the 25 point edge (as they should) but so do ALL of the Republicans-not just the main Republican. It APPEARS to happen to everyone after the leader mentioned in "leader_stance" When I set up the pro-life endorser, it works correctly (I set leader-choice to the pro-life guy and he gets the 25 point edge-as expected) BTW are there another terms besides "leaning" that can be used?

  14. I am working on a custom scenario and have com across a strange bug with the Endorsers. In my scenario, the lead Republican and all of the Democrats are pro-choice and one of secondary Republicans is pro-life. Do handle this I created a pro-choice endorser and gave set party preference to Democrat and Leader preference to the pro-choice Republican. When I use the main Republican, both him and any Democrat get 25 points toward the endorsement (as they should) . The problem is ANY Republican gets the 25 points. The leader preference appears to flow down, the points go to any leader lower in the list to the one who has the preference. Does anyone have any ideas? The question involves Crusaders. There are some Crusaders that would only apply to specific candidates (such as potential First Ladies) There are others that would apply to any of the Candidates, but would only support one of them. In addition, many of those "party-wide" Crusaders would only become active in the General Election (for instance an incumbent President might not support nayone in the Primaries, but would support the nominee) One way to do this would be with Endorsers. Is there a way to produce a Crusader from an Endorser ?
  15. I wrote the original Santos vs Vinick (2006) scenario. I am mostly finished with the Primaries version of the scenario. For the Democrats, I have Santos, Russell, Hoynes and Rafferty (with option for Baker in the general election). For the Republicans, I have Vinick, Rev Butler, and Walken. The scenario may need some adjustment, but it is mostly done.
  16. I am creating a new scenario and have a question about endorsers. I would like to have a "national" endorser that multiple territories, but NOT the whole nation. Never mind, it works now
  17. The timeline I precieved was something like this Ford became POTUS after Watergate, but a new election was called for 1974, causing the time shift in Presidential election years 1974-1978 Carter 1978-1986 Reagan (Rep) 1986 Newman (Dem) 1990-1998 Lassiter (Rep) 1998-2006 Bartlet (Dem) 2006 Santos (Dem) Note: There is a Reagan Medical Center (where Bartlet went after being shot at the end of S1) and a Reagan airport, so presumably Regan served as POTUS If this is correct, it would appear that a Republican POTUS appointed Democrat Leo McGarry as Labor Secretary. Perhaps Leo's views on labor issues were close to that of Presiednt Lassiter. After all, President Santos DID appoint Republican Arnold Vinick to be SecState because they agreed on foriegn policy

    P4EP Bug

An observation WRT Issues. Sometimes the issues significance reaches a status called "Dominating" (which I presume is one level beyond "Very High" - . I also noticed that sometines it reaches a level called "Error". When this happens, the Issues name in the Platform screen is White (as opposed to purple, red, orange or yellow) Also, I tried to change the significance level of an issue in a single state (specifically Social Security in Florida) and when I checked the platform screen, there was no change. It seems to ignore the state-specific levels and reads all of them from the National level

    Event File

If you are referring to the items under "scripted_events", I don't know. If you are referring to Issue Events, it should look something like this: <events> <random_events on="1"> <--- This is important <simple_issue_events> <issue id="abortion"> <headlines> <headline>FDA approves new "Morning After Pill"</headline> <headline>Missouri and South Dakota Enact Abortion Restrictions</headline> </headlines> </issue> <issue id="affirmative_action"> <headlines> <headline>Supreme Court Rules on University of Michigan Law School Case</headline> </headlines> </issue> <issue id="balanced_budget"> <headlines> <headline>GAO projects 10% Increase in Deficit</headline> <headline>Balanced Budget Amendment Proposed</headline> </headlines> </issue> Do this for the rest of the issues </simple_issue_events> </random_events> When the game calls an event for a given issue, one of the headlines listed in this file will appear
  20. Hello: I am working at creating a new scenario-(a governor's race) I have made the changes (setting the "usa" political unit to the state--and the states to state subdivisons). I have checked the XML files. They are structurally accurate (that is when put in IE there are no errors). When I try to run the scenario, I get an Access Violation error. The error pops up after I finish making the candidate selections (which come up correctly) I get the "Creating Game" box and then the message "Access Violation at address 00534FD6" or sometimes at 0057B3A4 and the values is FFFFFFFF. This is mostly to the 80soft developers, but does anybody know where these addresses are (what would be causing these issues) It is probably something invalid in the XML files, but I don't know where. I checked them fairly closely and the XML is structurally OK (at least IE didn't throw an error and my XML editor is working fine) Any suggestion would help. Thank you in advance ETA: This is with version 1.0.5.1 (and I got the same error with 1.0.5)

  22. I am trying to create a new scenario. One of the issues is in regard to the candidate pictures. I get an "Invalid Picure size" error. What is the correct picture size? The ones I am trying to use appear to be the same size as the standard ones (74x86)
  23. Question: Is there a way to make a crusader be available for ONLY the General Election? One instance of this would be having an outgoing incumbent President wait until there is a nominee before supporting anybody WRT the proportional support, it would appear that changing the 'PPR' to 'PR' should do it (unless something is hard coded. Also, how would you handle a situaltion like Maine and Nebraska, who award EVs by giving 2 EV to the overall winner and then 1 EV per district.

    PF - P

Nice game. I did see a few oddities though. I was playing the 2004 scenario as Nader and thought he was a lot weaker than he should be (1 or 2 CP?) Secoind in that scenario, Bush easily took some states like Illinois and Michigan (which are solid Democrat) --this was in a scenario without the Primaries. Looking at the XML files, it seems that there are two many undecideds If I understand correctly, the Policy Speeches have nationwide impact instead of just in a given state (so you don't travel to Florida for your Social Security speech) The Election Night was really good, but there are ways to make it better. First, perhaps there should be an indication when each state is "called" for a candidiate (maybe shifting from light to dark color). Is there a way to just fast-forward to the end when a candidate has 270 confirmed EVs? Also, what should we be doing between the last primary and the convention?

    P4EP Bug

I have a couple of odd things too. First, on start up I get a bunch of boxes that say "The Parameter is incorrect" with an OK button. I can start with no problem. I noticed that in the General Election, I can produce FootSoldiers very quickly(in 1 turn) everywhere. It doesn't take the 5 days it should. Is this a feature? On Election Night howver, the program just freezes. I have a few states with >1% projections and nothing else. Time freezes at few seconds after 4PM and the "Welcome to Election Night" scrolls VERY slowly Also, it would be nice to have the "Run Ad in 'Fair' States" option like in the original
