  1. Yeah... I searched the forums but didn't see much, but I'm in e-mail contact with Anthony now, so hopefully we can resolve the problem. Just when I was getting so close to the convention! But, hey, if anyone sees this and knows of a work-around, I'm game.
  2. FYI: I figured it might help if I sent a compressed zip file to the support2 e-mail for 270soft. I attached one file with just the autosav and another with the autosav and all associated autosav files (the ones with candidate names). Please note that I'm using an edited character, so I'm not sure if this has something to do with it. I hope not, since I don't really have any interest to run as an existing candidate. Thanks again!
  3. So, I'm quite deep into the primaries, secured the nom, but it's only May and I'm watching a closely-fought battle on the other side. However, I can no longer save games. I can't autosave them, nor can I save them manually. I am the type who likes to save obsessively, and I figured I could since I have plenty of room on my computer. This already happened to me once about 30 turns back, and I noticed that each file was getting progressively larger (makes sense). So I figured there was some odd cap on total saves and thus deleted all saves but a couple and the autosav. I let more time go along, but this time without saving it for awhile. Autosaves were taking longer, but they were working. However, when trying to create a save game in place of another (I deleted one to "make room" for another), I received an "Unable to write to specified save game file" error. I clicked ok and the game progressed, but then this occurred the very next turn with the autosave. So now I'm afraid to turn my game off, or to even proceed, since once I exit, I no longer have any of my progress saved. Please help. I've been enjoying this game immensely in the 10 short days I've had it, and, while I understand many games for any platform experience their bugs, I cannot play this if I can't even save it once it gets to a certain point. Also, it seems there's no going back to my previous save file (including the autosav), since this error caused the autosav file to be overwritten by another that has 0 bytes since it couldn't save properly. Thank you in advance.

Just to return to the original post in this topic I created, I would like to report that underdogs do indeed stand a chance given a well-planned strategy, letting the others devour each other, fundraising/ad-posting like a madman, and various other strategies outlined by the experts here. It's expensive, but doable. Also, the editor, although it could use some tweaking for party creation (I know Anthony is continuously developing improvements), is quite robust and I'm looking forward to creating some interesting parties and tackling elections with them. Then I suppose I'll see some reeeeal underdogs at work. Just not sure which is the best party to clone before editing since percentages will reflect the cloned party. I'll figure it out. Thanks for everyone's help! Great game and great website!

Yep. Clinton didn't stand a chance since I joined in with the others and she seemed to have scandals coming out the wazoo. Once I caught up and covered the map in Ward teal, everyone jumped on me, but they were too far behind by this point due to their cannibalism that even their relations with Clinton were awful. So instead of endorsing either of us, they simply withdrew, leaving undecideds for me to scoop up. I think Rubio could've turned Democrat and won this particular primary. What beasts we've been! Hah. I like that their relations gradually increase once they drop, though, since most of them became available for VP selection. Now I am faced with the dilemma of who I want to run against in the general: Christie or Rubio? I wanted a tough battle with Christie at first, but now I'm thinking Rubio would be an interesting challenger considering his popularity in "blue states," which he won't truly stand a chance in, whereas Christie is so much more potent in the plains states. Have to weigh fun vs. challenge, though either of them could present both. Btw, Ryan inexplicably withdrew from the race even though he was only barely behind in third and was actually leading a bit in national polls. He endorsed Rubio. I can't fast forward to the general because I'm simply too fascinated by this Republican race (and I may as well kick back and research some insights and scandals).

Nabbing NY and CA with Christie is impressive. With Ayotte is staggering. With Paul? That's downright insanirty. Lol. Fun game indeed. Maybe I shall wrestle Alabama and Mississippi from Christie? Have Bill Maher barnstorm down there? : P I'm not really kidding, hah. I want every state! Mwahaha. Update, though: I had no idea that building up your spin machine could be so lethal. Christie was starting to dominate the primaries too much for my liking, so I researched a national scandal surprisingly fast and spun the heck out of it for almost a week straight while also barnstorming in states with a negative Christie theme. Next thing I know, Rubio is surging ahead in the polls and catching up in delegates. Christie is no longer projected to win. But I stop the spin, target Rubio, and now they're both about even, with Ryan on their heels and Christie nabbing a Paul endorsement. I think I may let Ryan pull ahead and then I'll start toying with him. I love this game! But I know that somewhere down the line this is somehow going to bite me in the butt. This game is cleverly designed to hit you at your highest when you're least expecting it. : ).

Haha... I know what you mean. I went to sleep later than usual one day because I just HAD to get to Super Tuesday, but it cost me exhaustion the next day at work (I need to edit my IRL stamina points! : P). Thank you for the in-depth response, as always. I like that you were able to win Cali (my home state) with Ayotte. Consider my mind blown. This bodes well for my thoughts of choosing Booker. Maybe I'll win Texas with him? Haha. He'll at least be interesting to battle with Christie over NJ! As for the ads, I did decide I'd wait until I secured the nom, so I'm glad you advise the same. I was indeed worried about attacking Christie too soon and giving Rubio and Ryan a chance to jump ahead. Then, not only have I lost out on precious funds if it costs Christie the nom, but I'll also miss out on the chance to battle with Christie, which I'm looking forward to. So, yes, I'll wait to attack him with my nom or when he starts pulling away by too much. I do like the idea of keeping the other party fighting each other while I kick back, attack, and self-promote. Anyway, I could sit here and talk about the game all day and ask you questions even more, but I have future constituents awaiting! (Anthony, your game rocks! And yes, I'd also love to attack VPs some day! : ) ) Edit: I just noticed that my Super PAC has gone from attacking Clinton to Christie, so the game is already one step ahead of me. Brilliant!

Haha... sneaky! Remind me never to run against you for office! : P While we're talking about VPs, could you answer this noob question: How important is your VP selection? Are they a glorified surrogate or do you actually control them? Do you put them on auto-pilot if so, or do you get to use them sort of like your candidate? I ask because I'd like to pick Cory Booker as a running mate to keep the underdog theme rolling - and he's the only one who likes me, anyway - but I wasn't sure if I'd shoot myself in the foot for that. Thoughts? Oh! Also, I already know I'll have my primaries wrapped up soon, but it'll probably only be April by then, while Christie, Ryan, and Rubio are still slugging it out. So is it effective to start running ads on the front-runner (Christie) even though I'm still in my primary season? I know it is in real life, but I'm not sure how the game treats it since some of the general election info doesn't seem to reflect my current operations (such as organization levels). P.S. I know I could be finding these things out first-hand by playing, but I rarely have time, and so I'd like to get the most I can out of this first playthrough, which is taking me forever due to my obsessive micromanagement! : )
  9. I'm sorry if this has been posted already, but I'd love a feature that notifies you when an ad has finished running. The game does such a fantastic job of updating me on nearly everything, so I figure this could go right in that little box too (I know it's not that easy though!). It's only a small thing, really, but sometimes I may forget a state that I mean to keep running ads in because I get so busy micromanaging the other local ads I'm running (which I love doing!). My fault for forgetting that state, of course, but I figure I'd have some aides around to remind me. ; )

I'd be super interested in this, too. After my current game, I plan on creating a new party and creating entirely new candidates just to shake it all up. In the meantime, I"ll copy parties and candidates and edit them accordingly. I just get caught up on starting percentages for an outlying party.

Thanks VanMav and Blair! I've only recently discovered how lucrative fundraising can truly be since I had myself stuck in Iowa and NH and was not impressed - it took me awhile to work my way over to CA and TX and wow! So I will definitely run some serious national ads since I find myself neglecting ads more than I'd like. I start with a created candidate who's a serious underdog, so I need the national attention. But I'll also be targeting some specifically, as Blair mentioned, since some states just need that extra loving, especially close to the respective election. The only bummer is that once I took the national lead, everyone started attacking me, so, unlike my peaceful pro-me style, I had to start hitting back. So I doubt I'll be having my pick of running mates, whereas at first I naively believed I would. Ah well. At least one of the candidates likes mine, even if he's a huge underdog himself and didn't survive Iowa. Dang realism. : P

When you say "run one national," how exactly do you mean? I ask because I know you can set up a U.S. ad and then select the states to run it in, or you can, of course, localize the ad to focus on a state even more, which has always been stronger for me than a national ad running in that state. The only benefit I see to running a national ad vs. a local ad is it's less time-consuming IRL and involves less micro-management. They both seem to cost the same, however, running one nationally and selecting even just six or seven states ran me up to nearly $900,000 per turn (Texas didn't help that). Please understand, though, that this is all knowledge gleaned from only ONE playthrough on my very inexperienced part. Is there a way to run an ad nationally without having to select all the states? That is, is there a cheaper way to run national ads... nationally? Otherwise, running an ad across the nation would bankrupt me immediately. Thanks! Btw, while that was a ton of money I spent on those $900K ads I mentioned, and they nearly busted me financially, they did indeed, as you say, gave me a "heap of momentum" and in rolled the endorsements as I built up my organization and spun the ads I ran when possible. Also, I have not yet entered the general election, so keep that in mind with all my babbling above. ; )

    PIPs?

5 hours??? It's taken me 5 hours just to get to mid-November! Lol. How do you run through so quickly? Is it because I'm starting at 1% and running localized ads like crazy and trying to spend every CP I have? What do you find that you can skip entirely to get through it so quickly? Because as it stands now, I don't even plan on seeing Super Tuesday until next week in real time.

Thank you, SANC! I'll try that strategy, but I especially love the above-mentioned surprise aspect of it! I have a LOT to learn. Speaking of which, can I ask you if you find it more efficient to simply run national ads and then run them in the states, or do you actually localize them for more regional issue relevance (and strength)? I like doing the latter, but I've found it's become an enormous drain on funds, CPs, and my own personal sanity. Thoughts? Thanks for letting me pick your brain!

    PIPs?

Thank you for the clarification, and thank you more for this highly addictive game. It's one of those "Just... one... more... turn..." kinds of games.
