This is shameful. What we need to do today,as a duty of all of us as Americans is take a moment to stand together as a nation because our divisions and right wing political extremism is what led to this. John is a fighter, patriot and a friend of mine.Wishing him a speedy recovery.

Oh now I see what you mean. Okay, if her seat can be used as a campaign prop much like Scalia’s to consolidate support based on partisanship. I thought you meant Ginsberg was driving support away from Democrats or something like that.

    Socialist Party Playthrough 1900 Onwards

The 1908 general election. The Tickets SOC: President Eugene Debs/ Vice President Robert La Follett UNI: Charles Evans Hughes/ Fmr. Spkr. John Sharp Williams CON: Fmr. Sec. Elihu Root/ Fmr. Sen. Oscar Underwood (Do note that, given their landslide victory in the presidential election, I decided to give the Socialists advantage to their rolls Local election 14/20 - The Socialist Party is able to maintain their control of two thirds of all state legislatures, and even managed to sure up their majority in some. House elections 15 /20 - The house elections saw the Socialists gain enough seats to override turn a president's veto. Governor elections 12 /20 - The socialist were able to improve their margins in the Governor's races, but did not win any new governorships. Party Membership 17/20 - The Socialist party is able to grow it's numbers to 850,000 card carrying members. Senate elections 18/20- Socialist experienced a landslide in the Senate elections, and now have a veto proof majority in both houses. Party Unity 11/20- The party is somewhat united, though there is often heated disagreements between the multiple "caucuses", which include; "The Libertarians", lead by Secy of State William Haywood, and Governor of New York, Daniel De Leon, and who seek to establish a decentralized Socialist society by any means necessary, often derided as "purely anarchist", by its opponents "The Reformists" lead by Vice President, Robert La Follet, and Speaker of the House, Norman Thomas, who wish to reform the current system into a fairer system, but still leave some elements of a Capitalist system, a much smaller group of Socialist, that might grow in coming years is the "Totalists", lead by Governor of Ohio, C. E. Ruthenberg, and Representative William Z. Foster of Massachusetts, they seek to bring about a workers revolution lead by a vanguard of 'Revolutionary Intellectuals', the group gained the name from a quote by Thomas attacking Foster in an interview with the New York Times saying that "He (Foster) and his allies seek to just to replace capitalist oppression, with an oppression of bureaucrats, seeking to totalise the state into every person's life. If anything Totaist is a more fitting title for them rather than Socialist." (I have something planned for Debs, next term, it will certainly shake things up ;))

@Leuser Congratulations, Mr. President! I would show you around, but between your Father's Vice Presidency and your accomplished service under both Presidents Washington and Hamilton, I'm sure you already know everything there is to know about the Presidency. Vice President Morris awaits your company in the parlor, should it please you. Your wife and your mother have also asked for a moment of your time. The nation has $61 million in savings at this time, Mr. President, and we project to add another $40 million by the next election. As you know, President Hamilton eliminated our only tax, so the nation is currently funded only by tariffs. The public strongly supports your principles (+5 conservative). I'm sure you have a lot on your mind. For example you are probably considering whether to: * Create or repeal any tariffs (maximum of one per term) * Create any taxes (unlimited) * Request an issue (need four to end your presidency) * Appoint your cabinet * Decide whether to retain the liberal Andrew Jackson as your General, or replace him with one of the conservative Pinckney brothers But I know you'll want to get straight to it, so here's the most pressing matter of the day: As you know, the late Chief Justice Thomas Jefferson's behavior in the final years of his life was...most peculiar. After the death of his first wife Martha, Jefferson set free all of his slaves, and even declared one of them to be his new wife. Of course, no priest would marry them -- but when Jefferson died, he left his entire estate to this former slave woman. This alone has been difficult to process -- but then add in the fact that President Hamilton gave property-owning women the right to vote, and you can understand what a mess this has made. This Sally Hemings...or Sally Jefferson as she now styles herself...has declared that she is running for Governor of Virginia on an anti-slavery platform. She was never likely to win, of course, but her story has inflamed passions across the state -- and inspired hundreds of slaves to rebel so that they can cast votes in her favor. These votes will not be counted, of course -- but the escaped slaves have a troubling record of killing anyone who tells them that. Naturally, with Washington City located just on the border of Virginia, we can not allow these revolts to go unchecked without suggesting that we are as weak internally as President Hamilton showed us to be externally. Or...perhaps all of this bad press from an issue that was actually created by our former political rival, Thomas Jefferson, could only serve to make our views more popular in comparison? What say you, Mr. President? Shall we send the General to put down this rebellion immediately? (And if so, shall we retain Andrew Jackson for this duty, or send one of the Pinckney boys?) Or shall we ignore it, and allow the Liberal agenda to be revealed for the chaotic mess that it truly is once and for all? Or perhaps you still need time to settle in, and you wish to delegate this matter to Vice President Morris? What are your orders, @Leuser?

    But this is Alabama?

But 2000 isn't that long ago. At least, it's not from my point-of-view.

    But this is Alabama?

Indeed but look at CNN coverage 2000 "Virginia => Safe Rep place Missouri, Tennesse, Kentucky and Missouri => Swing states"

    But this is Alabama?

It wasn't strong Republican until the Byrd Machine broke in the '70's.

    But this is Alabama?

As Virginia been a strong red place untill 2008.

@Woot activates 68-year-old Patrick “Liberty or Death” Henry. With his bonus action, Henry uses his special ability to make a free speech. He rolls a 4. His automatic +1 makes it a 5, but @Woot doesn’t have any other IP to contribute to make it a 6. The speech has no effect. I’ll add Henry to the excel sheet and then we shall begin @Leuser Presidency!

Ok. Secret round of bidding for bonus round. Send me your bids by 11 PM. Ties are settled in preference of the person left of the President. In other words, ties will be won by @Agent B, then @Shamilton, @Woot, and finally @mlcorcoran. As President, @Leuser can not win a tie for the bonus round. Any bids not received by 11 pm, will be assumed not to be bidding, for sake of moving the game forward. If I receive a bid that can not be beaten, that person will named winner before 11 PM. Send me your bids!
